I read on a post on here that st. lukes keeps the passport and forwards it to the embassy. This is a problem for me cause my fiance has her interview next month and she is only staying in manila for 3 days then flys back to Cagayan de Oro until her interview. Is this required, cause thats her only ID so she will need it to board a plane.

SLEC will forward the passport to embassy and she can have it back when she will have a visa. If she needs ID she can apply a postal ID in her place in cagayan de oro. God bless.

that cannot be her "only" id knowing that passport will be forwarded to the embassy and for her interview, she needed another valid id to enter the embassy itself... i suggest to have her get a postal id and i even do think an NBI clearance will let her be on the plane (i just remember my situation when i check-in i realized i forgot my id and that the only valid docs that i have is an NBI clearance to proved i am what my ticket says lol. so i hand it to the officer and he gave me my boarding pass. but of course since i dont know if thats acceptable upon entering the embassy, i texted my brother to bring my school id asap at the airport and he made it)

let her get a postal id since its easier to get one. or even a voter's id... good luck!

You're right, St. Lukes will keep her passport during her medical. They're the one who will forward it to USEM along with her medical results. I remember when I had my medical, there was a Filipina who needed her passport to travel to Hong Kong. She showed them her itinerary and they let her keep her passport and advised her to submit it on her interview. They made a notation that her passport is to-follow. Note that they allowed her to keep her passport because it's needed to exit and enter Philippines.

Does she need the passport just for identification? Why not make her apply for Postal ID if there's still time?

her medical is on 4-22. She has a flight back to Cagayan de Oro so she needs a passport to board the plane. I was planning that she will have her Medical tommorow. She is already in a hotel in Manila. She doesnt have her birth certificate with her cause I guess she sent it to get her passport so she is gonna get a new one before her interview. Can she get a postal id without a birth certificate. And how can she get a postal ID.

there's a requirement to get a postal id... like bc, nbi or other supporting documents to prove your identification. plus anyways, she'll have to get another bc for her interview if she doesnt have one... really hope you'll get it figure out! good luck!

I just hope if she shows her flight intenary to them they will also let her keep her passport and bring it to the interview. Her medical is in about 8 hours so she wont have time to get a postal ID until she gets back home. Hope this works. On the packet I read it did not mention them keeping her Passport. I only saw this on Visa Journey but unfortunatly its a little late. Hopefully they are nice about it.

hopefully it will work out that way (its always convenient to leave her passport to slec so there wont be any hassle during her interview but with your situation, there's always that exception somehow)... im from cag. de oro too and my mom got her postal id in cdo and it really doesnt take a week to get one. hope she'll get one before her interview. good luck!

no it doesnt take more than a week. or depending upon how many people requested for one... some even got it on 3 days. mom got it a couple of days later... no, postal id is not requested "officially" on the requirements but of course a valid id is a must upon entering the us embassy or flying in the domestic airport or presenting it to the hotels etc... i used my school id before, some used their employment id and if you dont have both, the closest we could get is a postal id since its a gov't id...

Tell her to inform St. Lukes about the passport. I'm sure they will advise her accordingly. If ever St. Lukes will not allow her to use her passport, she can apply for NBI clearance while in Manila. She might be able to use that to board the plane since it has her picture and information. That's the only option I'm seeing right now.

After the medical, how do you know that everything went ok? and that there is no problem?

They will make you repeat some tests if they think you have health problems. Some applicants here encountered problems with having to undergo sputum tests that could take at least 3 weeks to a month to finish and if they think you are TB positive, you'll need to undergo treatment that could last at least 6 mos. But if everything goes well from 1st to 2nd day, they will give you your vaccination records and the X-ray film at the end of your 2nd day and that should mean you passed the medical. good.gif

if her medical examination turn out good... she can't have her passport back.

Good luck to her... how about NBI clearance or voter's id or postal or school id?

it all was ok, she passed her medical and they took her passport. She had a company ID for the company she works for. I was surprised, but that is considered a valid Id over there.
