We just found out online that my husbands EAD has been denied.... what could be wrong? What is the next step?

IMHO, I would make an infopass appointment at your local office as soon as possible to find out the reason. I'm so sorry.

Did you file for EAD along with AOS or on its own??

are you sure you used the proper code letters for you case?? They will autmoatically deny it if the code is incorrect for the visa class.

Exactly! Did you apply for the EAD as C9 or A6?
I wrote down the wrong code, but because I was lucky enough to catch it before USCIS could deny us - we were ok. BUT, I had to make 2 infopass appointments for us to find out...

we used wrong codes....
we filed the ead sep from the aos
