Lorrine
Hello,
My husband is Canadian, I am a US citizen who is on permanent residence here in the Toronto area. I have been here since 2000 and am in the process of getting citizenship here.
We have 2 children ages 5 and 6.
We want to buy a home across the border in New York, which of course is not an problem for me but is for my husband if he wants to live there with us! He would be commuting daily or sometimes weekly during bad weather. Other times staying with family here in Ontario.
The reason? Because home prices are a fraction of what they cost here and we have found a very good school there for our daughter who is special needs.
I am a stay at home mom. I have a retirement account from my previous job I worked at for 20 years in Oregon but am not drawing off it now, it is just sitting acquiring interest. It is approx. 130,000.00
We were considering the I-130 so my husband can come home if not nightly then at least on the weekends without hassle or fear of being denied at the border. We also own a building lot in the Arkansas mountains. My question is, is the I-130 the route for us to go? Is there another way I am not aware of?
Since I do not work would my retirement amount be enough for the income even if we are not drawing on it but it is an asset? My husband will continue with the job he has been at since the mid 80's in Toronto. Can his income be counted?
Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Lorrine

Hi

I think you should do DCF
The Robinsons
I agree....if you live in Canada and you're already married then do DCF. It's ALOT faster than filing with a service center in the U.S.
