I guess first things first, about how long does it take to get your green card from the time you send in your AoS stuff?

If it takes 45-90 days to get the temporary employment thing, plus it costs $340, is it really worth doing? And will employers possibly not consider him for employment because of the fact that it's a temporary thing?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

The EAD card is included in the AOS price, (I think it it 1010.00) This price also includes the travel document. (AP) Employers will hire him with the EAD because he will be able to use it until the green card comes.

Yah, it's worth it now cause like the person above says, it's already included in the AOS price.

Yes, the rules changed on July 30th.

EAD costs $0 when the application for it is filed at the same time as AOS. Your file I-485 and I-765 together in same envelope to the Chicago PO BOX.

I-765 will be coded (c )(9 ) based on the pending I-485

The other important aspect about having an EAD is that it is proof of your husband's immigration status in the US and he won't have to carry his passport around with him - he can use the EAD card. It is also acceptable proof of immigration status to obtain his SSN if he doesn't have it already, and in many States it is a requirement in order to obtain a Driver's License. He will definitely require it before he can work and he will need to show the card to any potential employer. Even if it weren't included in the fee I would still recommend getting it. Ideally your AOS will be approved quickly, but what if it isn't? What if there is a delay because of security checks or other matters? It took nearly 2 years for me to get my AOS approved and having my EAD made life so much easier.

ditto, I filed for EAD and I knew that it was included buttt by some strange reason never filed for the AP because dumb me thought it wasn't. Now I cannot even cross the border and I live right next to it!

So yes to your question, if your AOS takes a long time (you never know) it will help you both to add a 2nd income. Believe me for the first week or 2, having a forced vacation it is great. After 1 month+ of not contributing and being alone and basically doing nothing productive moneywise while your wife is working, not a good idea at all.

If everything goes smoothly then yes, your EAD might arrive only a short time before you are approved for a 2 year green card. However, if you are one of the unlucky ones who gets sent for an FBI name check or some other kind of delay crops up, you could be in for a MUCH longer wait for the green card to be approved. Also bear in mind that many EAD's don't get processed within the predicted 90 days either. If you get lumbered with a name check AND a slow EAD processing timeline you could be unemployed for longer than you'd care to imagine.

If you're in no hurry to get working then wait it out til the green card arrives. If however you need to start bringing in some $$ then I'd get the EAD application filed as soon as you're allowed.

Definitely apply for the EAD and AP, because as others stated, yes it is included in the one price for AOS. There have been numerous people caught in FBI Name check and other things that delay green card for years! There are many people who didn't file for an EAD with AOS and totally regretted it, then later had to pay up the extra fees for an EAD many months later, due to delayed green card.
