Printed out the form for this new certificate the other day (figured I'd get it a little ahead of time), and I was a bit surprised to see my photo needed to be certified by someone who wasn't a family member and was of one of the professions they listed. I was utterly stumped, until I remembered my GP could do it. But then I visited him and forgot to get him to sign it! Doh. Luckily I remembered my mum's partner is a civil servant (though they're not married so not technically family) so all's well!

My new Police Certificate arrived today.
If I didn't have access to the net for whatever reason and went by the literature they sent me on packet 3, I'd have never known about this.
No packet 4 yet but it's early days.

Didn't they have info about the new cert in Packet 3?? In mine (admittedly for CR-1 so not the same) they had info about the old one, but then an additional slip saying that from February you must get the new one
Just interested if some people got the info with their packet 3, and some didn't

Just out of curiosity, when did they make it mandatory for women to get the HPV vaccine for AOS?? I filed for AOS not even 6 months ago and it wasn't required then. I guess things move fast!
All I heard about it was when I went to my gynecologist here and she said I could get it if I wanted....
Anyways I was just curious as to when they made it mandatory?

If it's not mandatory for us in the US to get the hpv then why do you guys have to get it done?

Hi guys
Just a quick question about the HPV jab that we have to have; I understand that there are three courses of it, and these are spaced out within a few months of each other, so do they expect you to have had all three courses? Or if you've had the inital HPV jab, then that is enough to pass the medical?
Advice appreciated as always! (And my case is finally complete as of 21st April!!!)

It's only for women under 27 for starters, but no, they only expect you to have had the first of the 3 injections to pass the medical.

I think you do have to finish getting them though, once you're in the US or whenever time for the next one comes up. I'm not sure about that, don't know if they check up on it and everything, but when it comes time to AOS and all that stuff they might.
In which case you might wanna try to get as many as you can while in your country if you have insurance and don't think you will for awhile in the US. Though we might have HPV shots for free at our health clinics here now.

Really? For free? I would get the other two courses straight away, but they have to be taken 3 months between each other or something, which would elongate my reuniting with my husband...so I'll wait to get the rest done if and when I have to...
But if you can, can you send me the link/doc where you heard it will be free?
Thanks!

since bbpatel and I are getting CR-1 and not going through AOS, i don't know who would check up on our HPV. It doesn't appear to play any part in removal of conditions.
Through a very nice nurse in my local NHS Clinic, I got the HPV on the NHS, therefore only paying the prescription fee. She told me that the next dose was in 2 months time, and the last one was 4 months after that. I may well get the dose at 2 months, but I still don't know about the final one. I would be in the states by then.

Hi again.
I've never "officially" heard much about the HPV shot, let alone it being free. But in the US we have health departments in every town (or most towns I guess) in every state that give free treatment to people that are uninsured. They especially do this for things that will like...help prevent bad things happening or help general society. For example, I'm about to be uninsured because I'm about to graduate college (omg doom), but I can start going to the health clinic in my town to get free whatchamacallit lady's check up thing with the big scary metal clamps and Q-tip and free birth control pills, rather than paying tons at my private doctor's.
So since this is also a sex STD prevention sort of thing it probably will be available for free in many areas. I think it will depend on what state you're going to live in, so just try googling your SO's state's health department site. Whether or not they do it will depend on their funding and state legislation.
Here's a link just to an old article, for example:
hereAbout halfway down the page it says that there's already a program for the vaccination to be free for teenage girls. Then the last sentence is like I just said, that some state clinics will be offering the vaccine for free. This article's from 2006 so there's probably a good few of them doing it now.
Hope yours is one

Hmmm....the AOS guidelines vertainly dont mention anything about the full course....but even if we have to pay for it once we get there, it's hardly gona cost more than it does here on the private.
excellent, i have yet to meet a helpful nurse, but maybe its just me

I have a helpful Dr though, so will ask her if the nurse isn't helpful.

The vaccine might be covered when you get US insurance. I paid 75 dollars for the entire course.

That's really good! I know when Jeremy checked it out he said it wasn't covered by insurance but maybe it will be by the time I need it. I asked the nurse again about getting it on the NHS and she thinks that might be by area - I know Poiteen mentioned she got hers on the NHS and that was London area so it's worth asking that too

We did end up getting our
NEW police certificate, and the visa is in his hand now. He'll be here in less than two weeks!

I wish I had visited the UK forum earlier! He said he thought he had until August to use the old certificate.
Also, I had NO idea that you were all being forced to get the HPV vaccine. That's crazy, especially since it's optional in the US (I'm 27, an American, and just missed that cut-off to get it for free, but was a bit wary anyways because it's a new treatment and who knows what new things will come out about it?)

Ok - I figured as this is the word on everyone's lips at the moment that we needed somewhere to keep all the info in one place.

First off:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...types_2994.htmlQUOTE
Vaccination Requirements
United States immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirements. See IV Vaccination Requirements for the list of required vaccinations and additional information.
As a fiancé(e), you are not required to fulfill this requirement at the time of your medical examination for a fiancé(e) visa. However, you may want to do so. These vaccinations are required when you adjust status following your marriage.
By this we can assume that we don't need to get the HPV vaccine until we are in the US (by "we" I mean females under the age of 27:
http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/...ccinechart.htmlI would still like to know what happens if our last injection (as it seems to be a six month course of three injections) falls after our 27th birthday. Any info on this would be welcome.

Next:
http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/niv/add_crime.htmlQUOTE
Applicants who have, or have applied for, a Subject Access Statement
If you have applied for, or are in possession of a Subject Access Statement, and you will appear for a visa interview before August 15, 2008, the Nonimmigrant Visa Section will accept this Statement, provided it was issued within 6 months of the date of the visa interview. Applicants appearing for interviews on or after August 15 will be required to furnish the new style police certificate from the ACPO.
As the K-1 is a NON-IMMIGRANT VISA we can also assume that the above is true for us. I have read that there is dispute about consulates stating that K-1 is IMMIGRANT. I am going to print the information that clearly states it isn't and wave it in the face of any officials who contest otherwise

At the time of the post you quoted, which was two months ago, this was the case.
Since then, it seems that the authorities don't want to abide by what it says on the website. As things were so up in the air a couple of months ago, I stated that I was going to take all the info that said it was valid until this date (which I did and highlighted the relevant parts).
As it was, they accepted the old certificate without asking for any clarification - this was on April 9 2008.
Without evidence to the contrary (which we have now had) I would still challenge the IO if they disputed it, providing the website still said August 15. However, as people have reported needing the new certificate recently, I would recommend that as being the ideal course of action.

Just to add to what others have said, my nurse, too, quoted £80 per injection for the HPV vaccine.
However she was able to give me the MMR no problems; didn't have to consult a doctor or anything. So that's one down!

RE the police report--my finance had the old type so he sent for the new one in early March. It's now early JUNE and he still has not received it. His police station checked on their computer and they say the check was cashed in London but that they never received the report.
This is the only thing that's holding us up but nobody seems to be able to do anything about it. He's going back to the police station on Monday to check AGAIN with them and he has sent in a letter about it (to New Scotland Yard?) but what if he still hears nothing?
What can he do? We are FED UP with the waiting.

Arrrrrggghhhhh I just went for an appointment with my nurse Re HPV and after telling her what a stupid idea it was that I had to have it in the first place she proceeded to tell me she didn't know what it was!! Once I had explained the ins and outs of it all over again she went to get some info from the other nurse who it turns out does know what it is but told me I can't get it through my GP at all. Apparently I have to go to a local private clinic and they just quoted me £160 for the first injection and £120 for the second two. Ahem I never thought I would be saying this but I would rather have it at the Knightsbridge Clinic.

Jun 9 2008, 04:40 AM
I am sorry to hear that, Bex! And yes, I'd have it done at the Knightsbridge clinic in that case, too.
Fortunately my doctor's surgery seems very clued-in. I've been really impressed with everyone I've spoken to there so far - I've had bad experiences with doctors before but this clinic seems very professional. The nurse has been exceedingly helpful.
The prices she quoted me for the HPV are exactly as follows:
Ceravix £189.16 (for two doses)
Gardasil £174.98 (for two doses)
She did some research for me and apparently the Ceravix protects against two strains of HPV and the Gardasil protects against four, so she was very surprised that the Gardasil was cheaper! That's what I've ordered and I'll have that next week.
She also said that she'd have no problem obtaining the Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis, (TDaP) and that it would come with Polio also. However as an adult I have to have a lower dose of the Diptheria so that needs to be special ordered too. (The dose they give children is apparently too high for adolescents/adults to cope with).
She even said that the Varicella is now available in the UK, but I don't require it anyway as I had chicken-pox when I was younger.

i see im not the only one then . I just posted in the aos forum to get some answers
but iwas initially quoted 80 aswell per shot by doc when i booked an appointment with him. he phoned back to day with the results of his research. i cant get it there cos they dont do it so wll have to find some travel clinic in another town

and it will cost 115 per shot.
Vito checked with his doc and it looks like waiting till then will cost about 70 odd per shot. so now what do i do?

is it still worth doing here? if i wait till then will it cause major delays to my process or complications? ugg I still dont know about the tdap he didnt know what it was and i dont know if i need it?

is that gunna be a fortunte at the civil surgeon too?

From the NHS website the HPV vaccination is designed for girls aged 12-13 before they become sexually active. They state that it is not cost effective giving it to somone in their 20's as it will offer no protection at all unless you've never had sex. Total waste of money. I'm going to see if I can get it on the NHS, maybe with a bit of pleading lol.

And is it cheaper in the USA as everything else seems to be or is it worth it trying to do it here?? Anyone found a great London clinic?

I asked my GP about starting the shots and he has new clue about getting it. anybody know where i can get it in scotland?
Also i applied for the new police certificate, didnt pay extra for faster delivery and still got it in about 3/4days. Theye really fancy looking with your picture on them. Also i payed £5 extra for an extra copy. I thought it may come in handy when applying for jobs when i get over.

Thought I would just stop by and let everyone know I had my second HPV injection yesterday at the County Public Health Clinic. It was all very simple and easy. I had called around a few local Doctor's offices and had gotten quotes from $300+ for the shot, so decided to call the Country Clinic and they quoted me $135!!! I was expecting it to be hell but it really wasn't all that bad, took about an hour all in all and the staff were super nice and friendly. Will be going back for my third one there even though I will be married and on Alan's Insurance by then.
