Hey there!
Well, Im fuming to say the least. Can anybody here possibly make a suggestion to what I should do regarding the following, as Im on the brink of booking a one way ticket back to ol' blighty!
Went to the DDS, Georgia on friday to get my learners permit, in order to get a Georgia driving licence. Waited for 3 hours to be told that they couldnt issue me one, as the SAVE program administered by USCIS showed my maiden name, opposed to my married name.
Called USCIS, and was just shouted at by an immigration officer that.. 'THE CASE IS CLOSED!!!, WE WILL NOT BE UPDATING THE SCREEN!!!!'
My green card was approved in Nov 07, my SSN issued in Aug 07, both in my married name. I have no US documents in my maiden name but the DDS refuse to issue a licence unless SAVE is updated.
Called DDS, they told me immigration had to do it, called immigration, they told me they won't, so here we are.
Angry and about to sink my head in a bottle of vodka.
Any suggestions (non violent) appreciated!!!!
Sorry to whinge guys...but AAARRRGGGGHH!

Sorry to hear this!
A easy solution maybe to visit a different driver's license office and bring your marriage certificate, and passport/visa with you. Only show it if they ask.
Did you try speaking to a supervisor? Did you bring your marriage certificate with you. Do you know/can you find out the date of the last SAVE update. Maybe you could point out that your green card was issued after the last update. Of course...the means someone would have to use common sense.
If that doesn't work, InfoPass appointment?

That's strange.
I would make an Infopass appointment with your local USCIS office and see if you can't get it straightened out in person.
And if a govt employee treats you badly, ask for their name. Not saying you must go through the hassle of reporting them (unless you feel truly inspired to do so and/or want to save others the same aggravation you've just experienced) but taking their name will at least make them worry about it...
Best wishes!

Thanks guys!!
The letter the DDS gave me says that they use SAVE to verify all documents, so I reckon another office will do the same.
Ive just spoken to the SAVE program and they seem pretty clueless too. Ill probably try and make an infopass appointment but I dont think that will be much help as apparently according to arsy-immigration-woman, they are not going to update it.
Baffling!! and bloody annoying.
This teamed with the fact that after 4 service requests, I still cant get a biometrics appt for my daughter, and Im turning blue.
I received an email from CRIS saying that if I didnt turn up to the ASC for her biometrics within the allotted time, her case would be denyed. Would help somewhat, if I knew when her appointment was.
I guess a fifth service request is in order.
Ho hum!
Thanks though, Ill keep you posted!

Sorry you are having problems with USCIS and GA DMV.
Have you tried giving the DMV your soc. sec. card and your marriage certificate which would state your maiden name etc.
Not sure it would help but I suppose anything would be worth the try.
Best of luck.

Thanks!!
Tried that one, but apparently no matter what documents I provide, 'SAVE' is the word of the lord.
If 'SAVE' says my name is Pigsbottom, then so be it, even if everything else I provide says otherwise.
Thanks for the suggestions though, I think the only answer is to get totally hammered and sing 'God save the Queen'
at the top of my voice. (Sex pistols version, naturally)
Cheers though!!!...hic

You can sing all you like., lol I might join ya for a few bevies lol.
I just looked up my timeline, when I went to the DMV they wanted SS in my married name, they would NOT use my maiden name. Have you been to SS and changed your ss card yet, I think they take the marriage certificate as proof of name change. (It's been so long I can't quite remember)
Sorry if my post doesn't help you. I am racking my brains here thinking of ways to help lol.

Chloe,
Hopefully your INFOPASS will solve the "name" issue in the system. The USCIS (mis)information line is more often un-helpful than helpful.
Good luck and hope you get your DL soon!
