my fiancee who will be moving to Florida does not have a drivers license in her country. I am assuming that she will have to get a permit, take lessons, and then take the test just like anyone else. Are driving lessons necessary or can she simply get her permit and then take the test once she is comfortable driving?

Thanks smile.gif

Professional driving lessons aren't necessary but driving lessons of some sort will definitely be necessary otherwise how will she be able to learn? Whether she learns with you or learns through a professional school, still she will need to learn. She will need to have enough in-car practice as well as 'book' learning both to pass the necessary tests as well as to be a safe driver. You may want to enroll her in driving lessons all the same as it will be another 'connection point' in her new country for her, may introduce her to new people and will help her develop more confidence in herself independent of you (which will help in her adjustment in the US), and will be something she can do while you are at work and she is on her own during the day.

If she's never had a DL before - in her country or elsewhere - please make sure she gets professional lessons.

I'm so tired of all these people over here who can't drive all because they did the bare minimum when getting a DL. Twice this month have I had someone pull out in front of me. 1 actually hitting me, smashing up my car and speeding away leaving me to pay for a new car myself. 1 coming 2 inches from hitting me - both hit the brakes and came to a hault right next to each other, so close I could see his girlfriends bad weave.

So again PROFESSIONAL lessons. But I'm sure she'll do fine and it will be a good way for her to meet people.
