Hi Everyone!
We just got Ritesh's Birth Certificate from his parents, and I wanted to ask the group if this is what you used/if it is appropriate?
It is a certificate from the Nursing Home where he was born stating both of his parents names, their address, the date and time of birth with 'male' listed. In addition, we have his 10th Standard Certificate which lists his birthdate and father's name...
I am worried as the certificate is not from a 'Legal Authority/court, etc.' and does not list his name...
Please help!
Thanks!

Hi Carolyn,
Manoj didn't have a birth certificate and we've used copies of his tenth certificate throughout the process along with an affadavit of birth and we had no problems. The Embassy recognizes the 10th certificate as a form of proof of birth. Good luck.

It clearly mentions on the website that the birth certificate has to be from the municipal authority and should have the name of the person and parents name.... Just apply for a birth certificate at the local municipal office and they will issue it within 10 days.. it is better not to take any chances..

hi,
Alll births are to be registered in local municipality or city .... if i were in your place .. I WOULD get the birth registered there .. and get a certificate from them.... nursing home is a private office....
God bless

As others stated, try to get the certificate from the Municipality office. If that is too hard, get a birth Affidavit from his parents, plus use the 10th Standard certificate too (that's what we did). The 10th Standard is usually enough at the Consulate, but may not be for AOS here in USA. Better safe than sorry, so get all the documents you can!

Thanks everyone for the input! His Mom is going to work on the Municipal Cert. on Monday, and since his Dad is a Dr. at a Municipal Govt. hospital, we are hoping this will be fast!

We never could get my hubby's birth certificate, so for AOS we used the birth Affidavit from his mother and his Caste Certificate (it has the father's name, his name and date of birth). Thank goodness that worked! I was really worried that an actual birth certificate would be needed, but obviously that is not the case. (By the way, his passport was the only thing they asked for when we applied for the Social Security number).

Glad this thread popped back up again, I had forgotten all about it! We did end up getting his Birth Certificate from the Municipal Authorities, but the Consulate Officer seemed fine with the Nursing Home Certificate along with the 10th Standard information.
We supplied the Municipal one at the interview, but she didn't seem to care too much, just said 'oh' and stuck it in the stack. The odd thing is, even the Municipal one did NOT have his name on it, just 'Male' and the same data that the Nursing Home document/record had.
