If my fiancee lived in the US for a few years while attending college, does he also need to get a police certificate from the US? Per their instructions...

"Police certificates are required from other countries [than that of nationality or current residence] for all stays of 12 months or more after age 16."

My guess is that we have to, and if that's the case, does anyone have any advise on what to do? Should he call the local police station? Any idea on how long they take?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Gomdori,

May I ask you where you got that quoted item? The reason I ask is that I know in the Philippines, other country police clearances are required if the applicant was in that country for 6 months or more since age 16. The 6 month timeframe applies to K1 visas (which it looks like you are applying for). The 12 month timeframe is for other visa types.

Maybe this is a embassy specific timeframe, but I thought it was uniform. Anyway, just wanted to point it out.

sorry I cant answer your original question.

Warm Regards,
Samby

No, he doesn't need police certificate from US since they will run FBI check on him at USCIS and NVC. I lived in US for 4 years and I didn't include it in our package.

Some consulates it is 6 mos. and other consulates it is 12 mos. Make sure you understand what is required for your consulate

When I received Packet 3 from the US Embassy it had a list of names of countries from which a person most likely wouldnīt even receive a police certificate cuz the country wouldnīt give it to him/her. USA was one of the countries. I donīt know why smile.gif
