What?!?!?!? Man that sucks - didn't they give you any other information, RFE? Anything? Perhaps it's time to call the congressman or senator and get them involved. I'm sorry this has become such a nightmare.
Jeraly
That really sucks sad.gif Sometimes from what I can gather it is because you or your OH might have a name similar to one on some kind of FBI list and so they have to make sure that either of you aren't mass murderers or something crazy sad.gif

PM CBR - she was in extended review so she might have some more ideas for you.

Keep strong

*hugs*
Jomo's girl
Did they give you a reason why? Extensive sounds pretty ominous to me as to what the reasons may be.

Any criminal activity in the US citizen's past? This can cause additional processing.

Another person with similar situation: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...=115656&hl=

It would really be worth contacting CBR - I hate to break bad news but I know when she was going through it took months, no-one would tell her anything, she couldn't find out anything and then all of a sudden, one day she got her NOA2 - it took... *checks spreadsheet* 234 days for her to get her NOA2...

It really sucks but I don't think there is anything you can do but wait no matter how frustrating and horrible it is. Defo agree you should see each other though - that is always a pick-me-up!! biggrin.gif

unsure.gif so very about that Estadia. Stay strong !!! And I agree, if you can afford it that a visit to your SO would be a good thing for both

Sometimes it's nothing more than your file was randomly selected for checks. That is the usual situation if there are checks done before the case moves to the consulate.

Just got off the phone with our idiot attorney.........he stated that this means it hit someones desk they decided to do a investigation for what ever reason and yes it can take as much as six months and can take as little time as one week........that is their way of saying it is under administrative investigation and that it is a black hole that no one can get out of until they are finished with us but he is sure it is not me that they are looking into but perviz..........he sounded like he was trying to make me feel better but it didnt........i am contacting now any congress person or senator i can get a hold of the attorney stated it would not do any good but i can not just sit still and do nothing........im not built like that i have been patent a long time but it ended today
and yep im going to India at the end of this month thanks guys and keep us in ur prayers..........

Have a wonderful trip.

I hope that you recieve some good news.

I am so sorry to hear this, Estadia! I'm glad you are able to visit at least.
*julez*
As jeraly pointed out, member CBR went throught exactly the same thing. She was a July 2007 CSC filer, and was just recently approved. She called Congress etc and was told they could do anything, that she had to wait out the extended background check. It sucks, but not much you can do but pray it won't take the full 6 months. Good luck!

Just don't believe what they say! they just wanted to get you off the phone, VSC did the same thing to me call them again and you will have a different answer.

Hang in there. I was told several different things which I believe all mean the same crap:
Extended review
Background checks
Name checks
Each time someone would look into my file they'd use some different terminology as above wacko.gif . Anyway, I did contact my congressman and he did an inquiry twice...all it did was let me know that they were still checking into it. I do believe the 2nd time he checked was the charm though, because he sent me the email that USCIS sent to HIM as a response and it's a bunch of canned response junk that basically says there's nothing they can do until the check is completed...
Very next day I got my Noa2. So I believe since they were forced to check into my case, they realized it was done and approved it right away. Our case is pretty straightforward...no past criminal records on either of us whatsoever...I have a common name (first middle and last are common names and all can be spelled different ways.) Not sure if that's why it took so long, or if it was me for sure that caused the delay, and we'll probably never know.

Oh,another thing is that the first time I called in December (uscis) they told me it was on the extended review shelf and it could take another 6 months. Sounds like the same canned response you got. It was 2 1/2 more months from that point for me, but you never know what it's gonna be for you, could be tomorrow you never know.

I wish you the best of luck with it!! Just remember, it doesn't mean you're going to get denied, it just means you have to be extra patient (yea it sucks!!) and it WILL come. I didn't believe it but it did. (Now I'm freakin waiting for CSC to send the dang thing to NVC. Gad they make us wait at every possible point they can and I'm really sick of it.)

You go have a good time visiting your fiance, forget about all that crap for a while and just enjoy each other as much as you can. Take pics for your interview, buy stuff in India & save your receipts, you know the spiel smile.gif

There is your hope right there.

On a quick other note - CBR - my case took about 3-4 weeks to get to NVC so yours should be there soon smile.gif You called yet? Let me know if you need the instructions on how to track from NVC-Embassy smile.gif

@estadia - like CBR says - it doesn't mean you are going to get denied or even that you have done anything wrong - it is just another one of those things sent to test us. I am sure you will be testing your patience but you can still hope that things won't take as long as they say smile.gif

*hugs*
