Hi Vjers! Hope you can enlighten me guys on this one..

I received my SSN card last week, few days after I arrived here in Long Beach CA. I noticed that my Very Long Name is incompletely typewritten in the card.

I have 3 Given First Names, a Middle Name, and a Hyphenated Last Name.

What was shown on the card was just 1 of my First Name plus my Last Name unhyphenated.

Yesterday we went to SSA here in the city, waited for 1 hour and UNFORTUNATELY when it's our turn, the system went down. GGRRR. The lady said that I should apply for a new card so she gave me the Form SS-5. So my husband and I went home.

We went back this morning, waited for 3hours, just for the other lady there to tell me I do not need to apply for a new one since it was given to me automatically from Immigration. She told me to call Immigration, she gave me a number which later on i found out that the number doesnt work. GRRR.

Looks like I wasted time waiting there. I even told her that I think I really need a new one that shows my Middle Name (okay i wont insist my very long given name, just the middle one) so I can use it to apply for work. and she just said "I dont know, you have to call Immigration first, and Ask them why did they just put 1 First Name and did not put in you Middle Name". DUH!

Anybody has this experience?
Is it mandatory that all SSN card show middle name?

I am so sick of this.. really.. Any input on this will be greatly appreciated.

I assume this card was issued to you through the DS-230 process? Even if it was the card was still issued by SSA and that's who can correct it. Next thing is that there is only room on the SSN card for 26 letters first and middle name and 26 letters the last name.

The name on the SSN record/card needs to match your immigration document, so if you have received your I-551 card, what's the name on it? If the name on the I-551 isn't correct that needs to be corrected first.

Show the name in line 1 exactly as it will appear on the SSN card (unless the name is unusually long). Full names will not be reduced to initials unless the combination of first and middle names exceeds 26 characters.

The name parts shown in line 1 must be clearly and accurately identified as “first”, “middle”, and “last” names so that they can be keyed properly into MES.

NOTE: The name in line 1 must agree with the name shown on the document submitted as evidence of identity, allowing for the applicant's option to use initials rather than a full first and/or middle name.

For official purposes, a legal name generally consists of a first (or given name) and a surname (or family name) that must be used to sign legal documents, deeds, or contracts. A middle name (or names) may be included as part of the legal name but whether the middle name is included, omitted or incorrect does not matter.

My SSN card does not have my middle name on it.... only my given name and my family name...

Never caused me any problems....

Does anybody here know which one is true for SSA card and Greencard?

1. 25 letters for first and middle, and another 25 letter for last name, = 50

or

2. 25 letters combined (all names).

please enlighten me on this one.

As I stated previously for the SSN card the maximum number of characters for the first and middle name is 26 total; the maximum number of characters for the last name is 26 total. This includes spaces and hyphens.
