-Me:US citizen
-Husband: Mexican BUT was brought to US illegally since age 5 (went to school in US too, etc)
We met in 2002 (lived together since then), and married April 2005.
I filed the I-130F (around Thanksgiving)
Receipt Date: 12/03/05
Notice Date: 03/16/06 (filed first but got this AFTER the I-129F)
I then filed I-129F (around Christmas)
Receipt Date: 12/29/05
Notice Date: 02/03/06
They both were approved and we received our packet to go to the Mexican Consulate next Wednesday for the K3.
1.) Now, here's my question. I read you can override the K3, contact the consulate and let them know you'd prefer the I-130 to take priority. Is this true? And would you recommend I do this at this time? I did NOT receive an appointment letter for the I-130F just the K3 (I-129F).
2.) Or should I go ahead and follow through with the K3 and worry about the rest later.
3.) Also, how does the Immigrant Visa (I-130) work? Do you have to GO BACK to the country AGAIN and go through this same thing (as the K3) with an interview, etc?
4.) One last question. With a K3 Visa, can you apply for a SS card OR do you have to get a Work Permit first? Or do you have be a Permanent Resident to get a SS card?
That's all the questions/concerns for now. Thank you so much in advance for answering these things. I'm just surprised I made it this far with all this immigration hoopla...whew!
