My fiances flight landed at 559am but by the time she came out it was 830am. It took her 2.5 hrs to get thru, immigration, getting her bags and then customs.

She went on line(seems there were lik 7 flight coming in at once). The immigration officer asked her 1-2 questions(what is your fiances name, his address, what does he do?). Simple questions. Then she was directed to the secondary room.

She waited there for over 90 mins. A guy came up to her took her paperwork, she waited 30 mins, he came back asked her the same few questions above and then she waited another 40 mins or so. He came back asked her what I do. He came back 15 mins later with the passport stamped and EAD.

It was a very long wait. But we got thru it. She landed in terminal 4 where alot of international flights land. She wasnt harassed but she was made to wait. alot!

JFK usually is not that bad. We had a bad weather and it cleared up in the morning, so I think all the delayed flights came in at the same time.

She didnt even ask for the EAD, she just got it.

She is still settling in, the jet lag took these last 3 days to overcome.

Manya, I would double check, as I am 99.9% sure JFK is still the only POE that gives the temp EAD...might be worth the extra cost, if any to fly thru JFK? Just a thought!

CJ, Congratulations! good.gif
I will be flying thru JFK as my first POE next week - hoping for as smooth sailing as you guys!! biggrin.gif

Hi Vanessa/Brent,

Even I heard that JFK is the only POE giving EAD. I think getting EAD at the time of entry is great. Initially I wanted to enter through JFK. However me and Manish discussed about it a lot and we found that US employers are a bit skeptical about hiring people with Temp EAD especially when its about Hi-Tech Job.

Secondly, I feel that getting adjusted in a new family (which is a joint hindu family for me), honeymoon-ing and finding a good job profile will take about 2-3 mths. I will give priority to my personal life (after marriage life) over my career this time. Because if I get well settled in the family, for sure I wouldnt have problem in future with my professional career because of my personal life. And anyway after AOS (which am counting approx. 3 mths) I will get work authorisation. So am not stressing much on getting EAD now. Am flying through NJ. I will surely ask for EAD. If they give.... great. If not.... it wouldnt matter much.
