just go down there armed with knowledge, i've read where people have been given the run around with K-1s and their right to have a ss#. there might be a guide in the pinned section of the K-1 forum, after y marriage some haven't been able to apply for a SS, they were told marriage voids the visa, since it is a fiancee visa.

Ok. Thank you so much! Anything else in the process of waiting before marriage I need to do? I know the AOS is a whole different story that I haven't even began to embark on yet, lol!! God help us innocent.gif

I also just found this website that answered some questions for me as well:
http://www.immihelp.com/visas/kvisa/k1-fia...on-process.html. You can search around on there for other info as well

That site is great. Lost of information in one place! Thanks so much for sharing it.

You're so welcom! It's the least I can do. I also found something else interesting in regards to the SS Card:
http://www.ssa.gov/ssnvisa/whatyou_need.htm. It states that is we selected yes on the DS-230 form they automatically send it to the SSA and they mail us a SSN Card within 3 weeks and we did select yes, so.....I am not sure, but I am on hold to verify. i will let you all know what I find out.

That is absolutely not true. You'd think if it asks and you check yes, it would happen right? Not so. You MUST follow up with the SSA and apply.

Hey Ken..welcome..FINALLY my yute !!

OK...what do we has women have o proove because some refuse to be in horrible pain for hours sometimes days like I was...cvan u imagine if i took no meds PLEASE!!...ppl say did u have her naturally or with drugs...ok when since any birth is not natural..why put urself and UR PRECIOUS BABY in labor to prove something to society or is it "braggin rights" please mi no agree wid dat eida and I WILL be taking drugs again God's willing and no matter how it come out it natural....AMERICA !! a no like JA wah ppl affi worry bout paying fi this meds or back in the day when there was none...

I could not have said it better. I should be the poster girl for epidurals cause I believe!!!!!

JA doesn't have to worry about paying for the meds anymore, Kimmy. All the fees were waived as of April 1st. I guess we'll see if they can keep up with the demands now!

I've also been thinking about epidurals and whether or not I should get one when my time comes. I read somewhere that they make you so numb you don't even know when its time to start pushing. Is that true? Also, what are any side effects?

I couldn't feel to push; but I did what they told me to do and I did it like they wanted. I could feel like this flutting in my stomach with each contraction.

Side effects for me where that my legs were numb for a while after. That went away soon enough.

about the SS card....you SHOULD wait at least 2 weeks to make sure the name is in the system....he has to fill out a form that you can get on the ss website and you can get it before you are married....

I was wondering if things have changed....we were told to wait 10 days after the POE then apply for the SS card. We applied on a Monday and he got it that Friday.....no problems because we waited to him to get in the system.

My epidural was a godsend, because once the pitocin kicked in my contractions went from being bearable to me crying in pain for Jesus laughing.gif

It took a good while for them to get the catherer in the right place because I kept feeling it (and that was mainly because my back was not positioned correctly) but I felt every urge to push. My placenta would not come out when I pushed so the doc had to go in and get it (thank you epidural!) and then I would not stop bleeding so they had to go in again and remove clots (thank you epidural!).

If we have another child I would still like to have the natural experience at a birthing center, but if I have to be induced with pitocin then that will be out of the window.

There is something else they will give you in an IV. It's more of a take the edge off kind of thing. I forget what it's called now.

Demerol...i heard that can make you very loopy....

Yeah, Demerol is a muscle relaxer but it makes a lot of people really nauseated and since it's somewhat of a sedative, some people come out of it feeling a little depressed and withdrawn.....atleast that's what i've seen working as a hospital social worker. LOL

I had to take that after I had fibroids removed in 2006 and it does make you a little loopy....

SJB1221 and JG that sounds about right. Checking off the box on the visa form doesn't GUARANTEE a SS#

The officer told me and Dave the same thing just on Tuesday. We checked off the box on the DS230 and she said that's just so the SSA can ENTER their info into their system. She said that "shortens" the wait time on the other side but that Dave still needs to clear the POE.....wait about 2 weeks and then go and actually FILE for the SS#.

I'm thinking 10-14 days is sufficient time to go a file for the number. I definitely wouldn't wait till after u get married........

Also, what are any side effects?

it makes your lower half numb...like you legs so yes it can make it a little more difficult when it comes to push...at leas that is what i have been told and read...and sometimes if they don't put it in just right only have your body goes numb...so i still am on the fence what i am going to do...

about the SS card....you SHOULD wait at least 2 weeks to make sure the name is in the system....he has to fill out a form that you can get on the ss website and you can get it before you are married....

This is what I heard too. Actually this is usually the biggest 'complaint' that many women say...the whole numbness thing and not knowing if they are pushing enough or too much. I also hear that on average the labor is much longer with the epi vs without cause of the fact that you are not feeling anything. There are a few birthing centers and midwives that teach the whole stand or squat or water birthing cause you are 'naturally' working with gravity...anf the birthing is much faster. Then again, if you are squatting you MUST be able to feel your legs so no epi...you get something else for the pain and then recovery is quicker.

OMG!! This sounds so scary.

Congrats again Gill!!! Quick question...Can Andrew get an SS card now too? Someone told me after we get married, is that not true? I had a lawyer through the part of getting him here, this time I am going to try to save the money and do it myself, since the biggest obstacle is accomplished of him being here..THANK YOU GOD!! Help ladies smile.gif! Thanks. God bless you all...It's FRIDAY kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

Hey....Good Morning All!

I think u can file for the SS Card before u get married - it just can take up to 6 weeks.....I think? LOLLLL

JALOVE filed for her fiance's back in late December and he didn't get it till a couple weeks ago.....right when the Temporary work permit was about to expire. wacko.gif Even she said some people get it alot faster....just all depends. They told Gill anywhere from 2-4 weeks so it's a wide range. LOL.

I know I'm late laughing.gif but...
Yes Chica,

You can apply for his SSN now. Because Ken went through JFK and got the crazy EAD stamp...he MAY be able to work prior to the AOS. In any case some employers are willing to hire if they have a SSN to take out your taxes under.
It may take a while b/c USCIS has to verify with SSA that Andrew is eligible to work in US.

Gill

Jonesie, you SON is adorable!

WICKED drug - Pitocin! You can REFUSE IT! (almost all of my friends that were given PITOCIN - had a C-Section) I REFUSED it. They gave it to me then I told them to TURN it off (they kep telling me it would speed up my progression). I said HELL no. They just want you the hell out of there and so does the insurance company. NEXT! That's not the way my grandmother says it's suppose to work. They make it seem like you can't REFUSE IT, but you can. It's your body, unless something is really going wrong you try your best to control the situation. The nurses I had didn't listen to what I was telling them I was feeling. I could feel my son go down and then pull back up. It was the WORSE pain I've every felt in my life and the reason I was feeling that pain was becuase my umbical cord was wrapped around my son's neck once and around his shoulders twice. Everytime I would feel him going down his heart rate would drop and my family was complaing, because most of my aunts are L&D nurses and it cause a big argument. In the end, I ended up with an emergency C-Section and all HELL broke lose. They sent their DAMAGE control squad to talk to me the next day, because they thought I was going to sue them. Don't let the NURSES tell you what' you're feeling. It's your BODY! Some of them that have children, must have forgotten that they were in the spot at one point.

On a side note BEST DRUG EVERY "STADOL" - I was so DAMN high all I wanted to do was have SEX.

There are risks more than side-effects. There's a lot of action going on in a part of your body you can't feel any more so there is a higher risk of you tearing, a risk of you not knowing when to push or when to stop pushing and that has the possibility of causing problems with baby, It makes some people feel lethargic and that can mean that they have a harder time nursing and bonding with baby right away if they want to. And then there are risks associated with how they put it in. If your anesthesiologist messes up it can cause chronic back-aches or worse - after all it is a needle inside your spine.

IMHO if they are pumping you full of pitocin or otherwise augmenting your labor then it's not "natural" anyway and I'd jump into an epidural with both feet. But natural births aren't necessarily about bragging rights. Some people just don't want to the effect of being immobilized and dissociated from such a big event for the body. Rather than being about who does it better I really believe its about each person checking in with themselves and their partner and planning and having the birth experience that is right for them. Feeling good about your decisions and experience is way more than deciding between having drugs or not.
