Are you sure it's not fractured? The bones in your toes are very easily fractured, and hard to tell. If the swelling does not subside, check it out. It might only be a hairline fracture but it can hurt like he!! and you toe can become deformed. You can also try soaking it in warm water and then icing it down--helps the pain. But don't sit around with it if it keep bothering you.

$455 vs $5000 is a hell of a difference. I could mess up on the paperwork a few times and it still wouldn't cost me that much money. Yardies Rock!!!!!

If you register with the USCIS site you will...when you get your petition number you can register. Did they cash your check? If they did and you have internet access to look at your cancelled check your number should be on the back....it's so wierd I used to know mine by heart...now I can't even remember what the heck it started with! laughing.gif

Congrats, Lawnie! You have to be over the moon - See, I told you lots of touching would make it come! devil.gif

I don't know how you can keep it a secret, lol - I booked my next trip to JA the DAY after I returned from the last - and I spilled the beans to DJ last night, couldn't hold it in any longer! He was whining about not being with me, and not knowing when he would see me - I finally said "do you think you can make it to the 25th of May?" - He just mumbled I guess, then went on with the conversation - took about 5 minutes for it to sink in that I had given an actual date!

Congrats on the interview date, Claire!!

I have been laughing all day at all the talk about patwah.......I am trying to learn and speak it as well.....and boy oh boy....... whistling.gif .....

When reading some of the patwah.......I noticed the word "dung".......Which here in the states mean POOOOOO..... blush.gif ......so when I was reading it and came across the word "dung"......I had to laugh at myself.......finally realizing that it meant down......... rofl.gif

Peace & Love,
Tonya

Question:

Will I receive an e-mail when I petition is touched/felt/grabbed/held or only when there's a change in status?

If you register with the USCIS site you will...when you get your petition number you can register. Did they cash your check? If they did and you have internet access to look at your cancelled check your number should be on the back....it's so wierd I used to know mine by heart...now I can't even remember what the heck it started with! laughing.gif

Bless,
Gill

Gill, check da timeline girl......... I'm proud of my timeline. biggrin.gif I registered already, but I wasn't sure if I had to login to look for a touch. lol Thanks for the info honey.....

Ok...Excuse me...Ms. Ting!! Dyam good job pon deh timeline...so yeah...you should get an email from USCIS when things happen!

Morning ladies!

Congrats Sunny on NOA#1 that's great! Hopefully the rest will be as quick (and VT will stay just as fast by the time I file, lol)

Mawnin Yardies....

Sus, thanks girl. It;s my darn turn to get touched now. Me, Islandwomarn and some others. Mi Luv touches! TOUCH ME Dag-on-it.....

I second that Sunny, but I'm afraid my touch will be for a RFE. blink.gif

I found this Jamaican dictionary online that may hel:

http://www.speakjamaican.com/glossary.html

Dis glossary ere wa nuff help fa mi tuh..along wid Jawi876's story.. RG sey mi a Jamerican fi tru.. He doesn't speak Patwah very hardly ever so I would never learn from him.. Even when I chat or text something in patwah, he usually still comes back in English. I just really love the culture and want to learn as much as I can.

I'm glad it helps. I know I need it bad.... Some of the words are spelled different from the way people spell them in this forum, but overall it's pretty good.
Yardiewife
I didn't remember to respond to the how did you learn patois thing so here goes:

When I went the first 2 trips I was a missionary so there wasn't a lot of freedom in who I hung around and whatnot so I spent most of my time just listening to those around me in church and the children that I would teach would speak in patois a lot amongst themselves and I would just listen intently. Got to know a few people that lived on the same lot as us and I was pretty interested in learning so they taught me a few phrases and key words just to get me started. On the rest of the trips I took I stayed with a JA family and did various things around the community. I really had to learn how to understand what others were saying before I tried to pick it up myself. I accomplished that by just asking all the people I would hang around to chat patois to me and they new I wanted to learn so they would help me as I went along.

Then when A and I started dating he would talk to me in patois over the phone and when we were there. Once it was known around the community that I could understand it people stopped talking to me in English and everyone just conversed in patois around me instead of switching back and forth. When A and I got serious in our dating I felt a lot more comfortable around him and practiced my patois with him. That is basically how I learned the speaking part...I knew for a long time what I wanted to say in my head it was just a matter of getting over my fear and spitting it all out. Of course I got laughed at and made fun of at times but I just persevered. I got better at speaking when A got here and we spoke it in the house. We would speak it over the phone sometimes but with the bad connections and loud noises in the background it wasn't always that easy.

As for the writing part...it is all from the web. I know the words in my head and I picked up a lot of the different spelling for the words on this site and another JA site. It really helped that I understood the words cause then picking up the spelling/typing came pretty easy and natural. All in all for me the key was really understanding it and having so many people talk to me in it for months...I was totally immersed. I never learned from books or anything but I think anything can help.

For anyone interested I know there are some youtube videos of someone reading Dr. Suess in patois. Check out youtube and do a search. Also jamaicans.com has a lot of great resources yes.gif

That is what I am thinking we have a purple jungle room for her. If its a he I hope he likes purple. Now if we can figure on how to put the crib together.. Mom got us a used one and she said she could tell us how to do it over the phone but we can't get it. I keep asking her to come over to help. Maybe she will come over next weekend since she went on vacation this week. Or maybe our neighbor can help he has 2 girls. We need his help to care up the changing table its so heavy because it has a dresser underneath and or town house is three stories tall. All I need is the crib up and changing table and we are set. I am so tired now I just finished the babies room. We have valances coming and and some rain forest wall art.

Now its time to tackle another room in a minute.

Thanks for the suggestion Jengles. He is such not a romantic guy. We really want to get out of the house today before the baby arrives. I am just trying to figure out a good seafood or chicken place we haven't been too. We don't eat out a lot and I am one of those who can't make up their mind. He told me this morning before he went to school he wanted to go somewhere out of town.

The talking was so scary to me too.. I writte it out it so easily. Once I knew a few words and the flow of how words are positioned. I would type up a storm. Even found myself emailing it to people outside of my lil JA crew cuz I was typing it sooo much. Like someone else said, it really flows when I am shocked or upset LOL
The minute I had a chance to chat over the phone, I would freeze up.. I am still not comfortable at all talking iit, the pronunciation seems forced and I think I sound soo silly. But practice makes perfect, if I never try, then I will never get it.

Congrats, Mommy! That's exciting -

As for work - give yourself a few years, you will soon be dumping work, lol! And best career advice - latch on to the paralegals and admins and make them your best of friends - they typically know the scoop in the big firms, and can point you in the right directions as you learn - I worked with an attorney who walked in my office on her first day and told me "I am going to be your biggest pain in the a** - feel free to tell me to F*** off" - Kicked our relationship right off, and she shot up through the firm - I would tip her off to which partners had the best new cases, so she would smooze and get the best assignments!
