I've only used personal cheques throughout this whole process and it hasn't been a problem (not counting the time I forgot to sign one of them! blush.gif )

Personal check is 100% perfect AND it allows you to check when cashed!
Good luck!

We used a certified check for I-130 filing at VSC..

I see one advantage to personal checks. At least with our banks, the certified checks' amount is withdrawn at once from your account. So if you have internet banking, it is not easy to know when USCIS gets it/cashes it... with a certified check, you'd have to call your bank every few days to ask for an update or to request a copy of the check once it comes back to them, perhaps?

A certified checks on the other hand is like cash, so perhaps it is faster to go through? No idea about the clearing of checks at USCIS...

I've always used personal checks and never had a problem. These days you can not only see when the check was cashed but also an image of your cashed check is available online.
