Hello to all Filipinos/Filipinas!

We heard that there is a new Philippine Passport being issued which requires thumbprinting (a machine readable passport). My Filipina fiance passport was issued on 27-Sept 2006 and to expire on 27-Sep 2011. Those are the details appearing on her current passport. Does it need to be renewed given the fact that it still under validity date?

We do not have a concrete idea about this new machine readable passport because my fiance overheard it only with other passengers talking about it while riding in the jeepney.

Please helpsmilie.gif .

Many thanks.

Have a blessed day to All!

No no0pb.gif you wont need to renew it until 2011

Machine redable is a new tech in passports where an RFID is embedded in the cover of the passport, there is a small square symbol pronted on the front cover indicating that it has the RFID.

Hello All!

Thank you for the image you inserted in your reply. Her passport though doesnt have the same inset picture (no epassport symbol) compare to the sent passport picture below shows. The Philippine passport she has right now has Philippine logo in the front cover (outer hard cover) with a piece of sticker wherein theres a barcode and passport number and on the first page of passport (inside part) theres details about her with her pictures enclosed in a plastic like logo or specialized paper or something. Please let us know if we have the right /valid passport because hers was issued 2006 and we dont know when the machine readable passport took effect.

Thank you for the reply and looking more to understand this fully.

It is still valid, e-passports are being fazed in over a 10 year period. Again if the passport is valid until 2011, it is still a valid passport.

As far as I know the new passport (machine-readable) is only issued to those who are renewing their expired passports. I filed my passport renewal end of February this year and will get the new one (black cover/machine-readable) issued by the DFA. Don't worry about your fiancee's passport since it expires on 2011.
