Maeve
Hi all, just thought I'd introduce myself...I'm from Michigan (and all my family are still there), but I've been living in Kentucky for the last 5-6 years. Met my fiance (who lives in Canada) online last August (I know, it seems quick). We talked online and by phone a lot, but it didn't really get serious until the end of the year. We met in person last December, and got engaged in January....

His family's been great. His mom and I have quite a bit in common and have been corresponding via e-mail. (Although his dad seems to think I live in a trailer park and listen to country music smile.gif Guess it's the Kentucky thing.) I'm actually rather big on the Goth scene, even though there's not much of it here, and am an aspiring painter/photographer. My fiance's in the Canadian Navy, and he's already been talking with US recruiters about joining the service here after we're married.

Biggest problems/stressors right now are not knowing when the wedding's going to be - we keep going back and forth on a small 2-person ceremony or trying to plan something big for all the family. Plus my parents are making things rather difficult. They're quite religious and are making a big deal that he's Catholic (and not exactly practicing.) I converted a while ago, so it's no big deal to me, but I don't think they ever got over that either...

Anyway, this rather turned into a small novel....suffice to say, I'm really glad I found this site! The support and advice is very appreciated!

Welcome to VJ, Monica. Hope you decide on the right wedding that suits you both. Its more important to satisfy yourselves than satisfying the desires of your whole family. Well, in my opinion anyway. We've been tossing back and forth about similar issues. Hell, at this point, I wouldn't mind eloping! But we'll do whatever it takes to make it mutually satisfying. I wish you good luck in your journey! Your relationship is so young, hopefully the wait wont be too long for you.

Welcome to VJ and good luck on your journey. As for your wedding, I would go with what makes me and my partner happy, not my family. It's your wedding.

Jason-Sasha - I very much want to elope too....wish I could right now! But I kinda want the Catholic wedding...idk. We've got a while to figure that one out.

Kazan' Tiger - I'm not a big fan of turbulence, either, but I do seem to attract it smile.gif

Nessa - We're certainly leaning in that direction....jsut don't want to alienate anyone too much. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I'm so very glad to have found this site!!
