Hi everyone,
I need the best advice possible for this issue.
My very good friend will have her interview first week of April, her medical on the last week of March.
Before she met her USC fiance, she was in a relationship where her ex bf would many times leave her and to stop him from leaving she actually hurt herself by using a blade. Her intention was not to commit suicide but to make the ex bf return to her. Now, she has scars on her left arm, about 12 of them, white scars from the blade, about 2 inches from the wrist line. The scars are very near each other.
I understand that during the physical exam, the doctor would actually examine the wrists to look for signs of attempted suicide. This is what worries my friend. I also am not sure what to advice her , whether to admit the act or not.
She tried covering it with make up but to no avail. She even thought of intentionally burning the area, like a cooking accident to cover the scars.
What is her best option now? If I remember right, if one will admit to this, she will be referred to a psychiatrist.
We patiently await for the members' replies . Thanks a lot.
thank you in advance

Admit it if asked, she can say that this happened a long time ago and has worked through her issues and realized there are healthier ways to deal with stress and pain... and hopefully, for her sake, this is the truth. PLEASE tell her not to harm herself further!
If she has to have a psych eval, so be it.
Best of luck to your friend.

Did she receive counselling following that dire incident? If she did, does she have a professional evaluation that would demonstrate that it was an isolated incident from which she has no residual emotional issues.

She'll have to admit it. I've heard stories of others who did the same and had to complete counseling before being able to complete the visa process.

She's actually thinking of burning herself to cover the cuts she did to herself? Pardon me but maybe its best that she goes through some psych evaluation. Maybe she needs help.

agree. her physical and mental well being are the most important issues at time. the fact that even now she is considering harming herself indicate there are probably issues with which she needs to have some professsinal help.
as others have said, tell the truth at the medical in St Luke's.

thanks for your reply. you said youve heard stories of others on the same case, were they granted a visa? or do you know anyone in particular who had gone through this? do you have an idea how long would this counselling or psych eval be? thank you in advance

I met someone (during my interview) with similar case and she actually denied the visible scars on her wrist during her medical. She said she got deep cuts and open wounds when someone pulled on her (metal) wristwatch during a fight. She tried so hard to convince the panel physician but to no avail. She was then referred for a psychiatric evaluation to prove that she doesn't have the suicidal tendency anymore. She was able to go to her interview but her visa was put on hold until she had completed the evaluation.
Your friend can lie about it but it will only jeopardize the whole thing because during the medical physicians know what to look for and can tell apart which one is normal and not. Just tell her to tell the truth. Have the medical done ahead of time so that no matter what she needs to be done, she'll have time to do it and not delay her interview or the visa issuance itself.
Good luck!

thank you for your reply. your reply is gonna help "me" so much. just in time that i prayed so hard earlier and decided to tell the truth when i suddenly saw your msg. God just spoke to me through your msg. thank you so much really for taking time to reply. ive hurt myself before for a guy who isnt worth it and i promised God not to hurt myself again, so im gonna have to face whatever consequence id get by telling the truth. now im not worried anymore and i would stop entertaining negative thoughts, ill just surrender this worry to God and whatever is His will then it shall be done. i was already coward by hurting myself when i encountered problems with my ex bf and now is the time to prove that im stronger by "not lying". again thank you so much, i appreciate it. thank you Vjers for taking time to reply to this post. "I" appreciate it so much. "I" am not going to lie. "I" will have to be strong to admit what ive done whether its a shame or not, and "I" aint gonna hurt myself again just to cover up what i did to myself, its too much already for my body to take. whatever is God's will then it shall be done. thanks again everyone. You are most welcome! I'm glad to be of help. We all made mistakes and made wrong decisions... nobody's perfect. If you have time to have the medical done ahead of time, I suggest you do that so that you'll know what you have to do and still have time to do it without compromising your interview. The psychiatric evaluation can take awhile, depending on how you'll respond to that. And prepare yourself for whatever will come up. Prayers and faith in God will surely help you.
Good luck to you girl and may you finally have found the true happiness in this life with your fiancee. We'll pray for you.

Just tell the truth about what happened in your school. I did not bring any vaccination records for me and my daughter even if she had shots when she was a baby. I told them I lost it. You will be okay without it.

Just show them your scar

that's proof enough. Even if u had the vaccine but if u don't have a scar, they would still give u the varicella (chicken pox) shot

just tell them what really happened, the doctor might send u to a psychiatric evaluation at SLEC, still tell the truth. About the vaccination records, you dont really need to have one since they can determine it through the blood works and i showed them the visible chicken pox scar in my face and they only gave me MMR vaccine.. but i heard that they added more vaccine at of this moment so im not sure what else could they give you aside from MMR.

in my case i met an accident in HS, while opening the glass window since the windows are old in school. upon pushing it with force glass fell caused by right hand and wrist to be lacerated. what should i do:
plan of action:
made an incident report submitted to old school ( highschool) clinic, signed by the witness adviser during the incident, principal, school nurse, and directress with school seal.
have a notarized incident report from a notarian lawyer?
DO YOU THINK THIS IS ENOUGH? what else can i do about this?

i think u can do that but the doctor who had my PE said everyone who has scars on their wrists would really be referred to a psychiatrist but if u have back up documents like it was really an accident then perhaps the doctor would believe you that it wasnt really a suicide attempt, and u could be exempted for psych evaluation. ill keep u posted for my psych evaluation. goodluck to us all

It's not true that everyone who has scars on their wrists is referred to a psychiatrist. My wife had scars from working in a meat shop (the knifes are sharp!). They accepted that explanation when she told them about it.
If the scars were from a HS accident with a broken window I would just bring the incident report and tell them the truth.
