Hi,

My cousin recently brought his wife over to the States through an IR-1 Visa. His wife went through the Mumbai Consulate for Visa. I am now in a similar situation.. and had a few questions. When his application went to the NVC, he didn't have to submit DS-230 or Police Clearance Certificate to the NVC, rather they wanted that to be submitted at VFS in Mumbai.

So now I am confused.. Do i need to submit that here? If so, then do they need to duplicate everything and submit to VFS as well? I've read posts saying that Mumbai Consulate is now Appointment Post.. when did this happen? Does anyone have any links where i can see that they have changed procedures?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

NVC process for India has change as of January 1st this year. In this case you need to send police clearance certificates and other original or certificated documents along with your DS-230.

Well, my wife hasn't gone through interview yet...but we are hoping to submit only medical examination and photocopies of checklist documents. Stay tuned, most of the people who are going through this new processing are having their interview later this month and next month. we should hear more.

Cheers

Hope this helps....

Good luck you guys, and good luck for interview - mgk.

Does this appointment visa processing apply to k1 as well. My fiancee has sent Packet-3 to the consulate before consulate sent her packet-3. We are waiting for Packet-4.

Do I need to do anything with NVC at this stage?

Thank you for your response. What's weird about this whole thing is that the Mumbai Embassy's website says nothing about these changes. I know the Department of State's website already reflects this.. but i was surprised the Embassy's website didn't get updated. It still says that Packet 4 will be mailed for Immigrant Visa.. and if that's the case.. Packet 4 requires all the forms now required by NVC.

Please keep us updated on what you had to go through.. your timeline indicates that NVC requested those documents.. what packet did your spouse receive in India? Also what is James Shortcut 2.0.. i've heard of James Shortcut.. is it the same thing?

hi,

Mumbai has changed to Appoint ment processing from This year. Go to the following website to see which documents you have to send to the NVC with the DS230.
DS 230 PROCESSING

DS 230 is to be signed by the beneficiary. ALWAYS make photocopies of all the documents you send to the NVC including the filled out forms for future reference and also all the certificate. You can send certified notarised copies
of the original certificates. All documents and certificaes have to be in English.

Ablout james shortcuts.... not much difference. shortcuts can be costly.

God bless

Hi Jigi, does this processing apply to k1 as well. I got a letter from NVC couple of weeks ago but it has no mention about this processing.

I am guessing that appointment processing only for immigrant visa. k1, by the way, is not an immigrant visa.
Jigi
hi,

I am not sure whether it applies to K1 too, ask in the K1 forum... they might help you out
