Hi there,
My name is Emma Sheridan and I am doing some research for a major broadcaster in the UK at the moment. I stumbled across this site and I'm hoping there might be some members on here that can help me shed some light on this project!! Let me explain a bit about the documentary...
At the moment I am working on the development of a programme looking at women increasingly assuming roles more traditionally associated with men, and in this specific case looking at women seeking foreign men for marriage.
We are hoping to produce a documentary that looks at women turning the traditional roles of seeking foreign partners on their heads, and getting online or otherwise to find their future husbands outside of the their home country. On the internet Russia and the Ukraine have almost become synonymous with marital introduction agency websites and it seems that brides from every corner of the globe are seeking western men on the internet. But what we have been interested in finding are western women seeking foreign husbands. According to various blogs and international dating sites there seem to be a growing number of marriage-hungry women becoming disillusioned with the western dating game and looking for happiness further away from home, however there don't seem to be any specific sites offering western women the chance to search for and meet a foreign husband.
We are extremely keen to discover whether any existing couples are out there, where the women have actively sought a foreign (Russian/Ukrainian) husband and asked him to relocate to their home.
I wondered whether anyone out there is aware of any such couples who are co-habiting/married/divorced. I would love to talk to anyone(confidentially of course) willing to help!
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

I personally find that statement to be extremely offensive and would be surprised if you'll find any couples on this website who would want to contribute to this rubbish project of yours.

Gosh, I didn't mean to offend anyone. Does anyone else feel offended by this?

In one word: yes. Few of us 'Western' women (as far as I can tell) set out to find non-USC mates -- it just happened that way. We go through immigration hell to bring our spouses/fiances here and we do it for love (you have to -- the whole process is so horrible you would have to be a nutcase to take it on for any other reason).
In my case, I was living in the UK when I met my husband; I didn't set out to hook a British husband (in fact, I was still married to another Englishman when we met). It was an accident of geography. Most stories you will hear on here are accidents as well -- whether of geography or through online means. Believe me, if I wanted a more submissive or non-traditional husband, I wouldn't have married a Yorkshireman.

Really, you insult all women by describing any of us as marriage hungry.
And if you research this site you'll read many unlikely love stories, where finding a foreign mate wasn't a deliberate choice, but a happy accident. Many weren't even looking for love, let alone marriage hungry.

Sounds like an interesting project. Why isnt there sites for woman looking for a foreign husband? We all know theres plenty for the man looking for a foreign bride. Good luck. Dont listen to the easily offended people who probably dont even understand the idea behind your project.
BTW Julezabelle whats wrong with being hungry for marriage. usually thats the way most people start a family and have children. You sound like an idiot imo. Marriage doesnt always fall in your lap, sometimes you need to find a like minded individual who has similar goals in life. I.E. match.com and many others help men and woman connect. Why isnt there the web presence for western woman to find a foreign husband on the web like there is for Men.

I don't usually rise to the bait, but here I must intervene. I find your insulting words to Julez (a well-regarded and long-standing VJ member) appalling and certainly not acceptable here.
And you know what? I
do understand the idea behind the project; I used to work for a independent "reality" TV production company in the UK. If people want to participate in such a project and go into it with eyes open and with full knowledge that they may not come out smelling of roses, fine.
And no, marriage certainly does not fall into your lap. Some people actively look, some people don't. But to bring a phrase like "marriage-hungry" to VJ leaves a very bad taste in one's mouth, and risks painting all of us USC's on here (male and female alike) as desperate or such misfits that we can't find love in our own country or weirdos who fetishise other cultures.
An uncalled-for attack.

I have to say I'm in full agreement with Elmcitymaven and julez. My fiance is the USC and I'm a proud Scottish woman. To suggest that anyone on VJ would be putting themselves through the hell of separation and dealing with US immigration for any reason other than real love is insulting. My relationship is the result of a very fortunate meeting by chance. As is the case with most people on this site. If someone had told me 3 years ago that I'd be marrying a USC and up rooting myself from scotland I would have laughed at them and said no chance!

I have no problem with the concept that a person would like to be married.
I personally find the term "marriage hungry" to be offensive. As is being referred to as an idiot. I never called the OP any names, nor will I call you any name. You've shown what type of person you are in taking shots at me.
I merely stated that I personally found a specifically worded part of her project to be offensive and that I would be surprised if she found willing participants here on VJ. Those of us who've been around VJ for awhile know that occasionally reporters take an interest in our plight of long visa waits, only to craft an article that makes those of us in a relationship with a foreigner look like a dimwit who is being duped into a greencard marriage. Again, its my personal opinion that I'd hate to see that happen to more couples.

Emmerkins, I'm not quite sure why you would post in the UK Forum of a US family immigration site searching for "Western" women who have found their SO's in the Ukraine or Russia. Is your focus on UK women, specifically? Because all the UK women on this site are involved with American men. If your focus is on "Western" women (specifically "American" western women because this IS a US immigration site, after all) involved with men from Russia or the Ukraine, then I can certainly move your thread over to that forum.
Dan+Nikki.... the only person sounding like an idiot is you. That remark is offensive and uncalled for.

If you go to the Middle East and North America forum you will find plenty of stories of US women and foreign men.
For the other way around try Russia etc forums, plus of course Phllipines.
My guess is that on average this forum would have similar backgrounds whether it would be be men or women,USC's or UKC's.

Yeah, the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) forum is section with a high percentage of western women with foreign men, but they are sensitive to such projects.

from the people who brought you the shows:
Change the day you die
The dangerous driving show
When football managers go mad
Aussies, who gives a xxxxx
The dark side of stage hypnotism
The woman with 7 personalities.
The women of MENA (i think) would be right to be skeptical of the programme makers intenetions and sensitivity to their situation.

From a practical standpoint, even if there were any women here that fit your description, none would be willing to talk to you because the entire visa process hinges on proving to the American government the validity of the relationship, and this is a public forum.

There are plenty of posts from people who have been burnt. Some may be willing to go on record.
