The thought of moving to a different country very very soon is increasing my apprehensions day by day sad.gif I'm dying to be with Ricky the soonest possible time but I am not dying to go and live in the US. At least Ricky knows I am not good with house cleaning and I told him not to expect me to do everything, housework should be equally shared between us. (Some guys even on VJ expect their wives (especially their foreign wives) to be totally submissive and serve them and do all the housework for them and don't even want to think about their spouse as partner or an equal. Shouldn't they just marry a servant or a slave?)

Well, we are really in for a big change. It's scary especially since I have two kids. I will just have to commit everything to God and trust that He will never leave us nor forsake us wherever we go as He has promised.... Ah, the thing we do for LOVE! blush.gif

Gay, i'm sorry you're scared. sad.gif I'm not sure what it's like where you're going but most places around here where I live are very diverse. I don't personally see a lot of racism and perhaps i'm naive but it's not tolerated anywhere I've been. So, I guess if you're not so happy down there you can move up here to New England with us! laughing.gif

Your children will be just fine... because they have you! wink.gif

Ricky lives in a place where the number of asians are very low if not none at all. At the school that the kids will be attending, they will probably be the only asian there. Ricky say's they'll be fine and I guess I just have to believe him.

I'm probably just being paranoid. Things will be ok. yes.gif

dbears, it's normal to be scared of the big change, especially for your kids, but don't worry too much, they will be fine even if they miss their country because their wonderful mom and their new dad will be with them. And if anything happens at school (but probably not, try to trust Ricky when he says they'll be fine), you'll help them kick the a$$es of the bad kids tongue.gif
And who knows, it might be easier for them to adjust than for you!

To be honest I dont think it would be normal not to be scared about moving to another country and the huge culture shock that is involved, but saying that with the support of your partner this should be easier.

Jay and I have discussed this and he knows my concerns and my worries, the things I'll miss too from home.

He has four sisters and they say they are looking forward to getting a new sister and I think thats sweet.

Thank you for the encouragements.... i tend to be very protective sometimes, I guess its a side effect of growing up with absentee parents, i don't want my kids to ever feel that I am not there for them.... and kicking the "bad kids" asses is just what I'm afraid i'd do and then I'd be sued by the kids parents wacko.gif i'm telling you i could easily forgive and let go of any wrong doing as long as it is not towards my kids... ...INHALE... EXHALE... that's the mantra I taught Rick when he is faced with frustrating situation... i guess i will need to practice it myself now whistling.gif

But yes, the kids will probably be able to adjust faster than I would.... especially with foods.. I can't live without rice.. any meal without rice is not meal at all but just snacks

i'm just worrying about the unknown but i'm sure everything will be fine.

Well, I hope this APRIL FOOLS day will bring in loads of approvals!!!

dbears, wanna know what im scared of? i cant cook! i dont even know how to make rice using a rice cooker. so i guess my fiance and i would be starving in the US. haha.

Well rice is usually cheap and obtainable no matter where you live in the US, or at least so I'd imagine!

I can completely understand your concern and will pray that your children adapt quickly and easily and do not experience any racism.

My concern is how living with the in-laws will be, and hoping to get a decent job asap so that we can afford to move out.

that's actually my concern too. my future in-laws are nice, but i just think conflicts are most likely to happen if you live with them (especially if they find out my rice cooker issue hehe). i told my fiance that i dont care how small or simple our apartment would be, as long as only the 2 of us would be there. and just like you, i would also like to find a job asap so i can help in the house expenses... and do SHOPPING as well ! tongue.gif

I think everyone's concerns are completely normal. Just remember you are entering into a partnership. You and your significant other will work a method that's best for you.

As far as the cooking and cleaning... those of you who don't have much experience cooking, that's all it is, is experience! You will learn, and you will mess up many of meals, but those are the times that sometimes even make relationships stronger. Marco and I have many times sat at the dinner table and choked down something I made, and then laughed about it and then cleaned up together.

Gaye as far as house cleaning, it's surely not fun, but it's definitely not rocket science! You'll be fine, don't worry smile.gif

As for those of you who live with in-laws, just try to keep your space. My Mom recently moved in with us because she lost her job. Trust me there are times when it's not absolutely convenient, but then there are times when she cooks and cleans and it's nice to have family around.

All I can say is at the end of the day, everyone will find a way. Surely if we survive the K1 process, simple things like... 'living' can't hold us back smile.gif

Very true ... we will all find the ways to adjust once each of us is with our SO finally. It's a two way street and requires work and support from both persons.

Life changes are always an adjustment, but we are all strong, look at the process we have been going through to be with the ones we love.

My parents faced an unfortunate turn a few years back, my father lost his job after 37 years with a company and it was way before he planned to retire. And unfortunately, the lay-off hit him hard and it was a struggle for him to deal with, and I am never sure I will understand how it truly impacted him. But I've been fortunate to help them out when they need it, and now more than ever as my father's health has suffered since the lay-off. I wouldn't change any of it for the world, I think back to all my parents did for me as a child and a young adult and am so glad to be in a position to help them. Am I excited that we share a living space temporarily, no, not really, but they are my family. They both love Stephen very much and are excited about him coming to the US. And good thing Stephen also likes them and they all get along well. I know as we go through the rest of the process I will be glad to have them for emotional support, etc. We know it will be trying to all be in the same house, but until he and I are assured my parents can manage, we will stick around to help them out, and vice versa, they help us out. And once we are ready, we'll jump to get our own place (I'm sure) but honestly, we know that it will allow us to pay of immigration expenses and wedding expenses much more quickly by dealing with the situation as it is, rather than trying to burden ourselves with further expenses.

Then not forgetting, I also have to think about his mother, who will now be off on her own, and Stephen thousands of miles away. He's very close with his mother and they've always lived in close proximity, so it will be a large adjustment for her as well, and surely very emotional. But we plan to bring her over to the US once she has retired.

It will be soon for all of us to be with our significant others ... and I know we are all looking forward to that!!! smile.gif

I'm here in merry ole Enlgand, and I have some great news!!! Darren received his interview date today...April 25th!!! Just online for a few minutes to tell everyone...but I miss you all terribly!!!

Amanda: Your story is inspiring as it contradicts what I have always heard about people in the US just not caring enough for their elderly parents.... though most don't have a choice because of hectic schedule, etc.

And yes I agree, we will find a way to adjust once we get there or in your case, once your SO is there. good.gif
