Really it is not easy to do even that. The documentary requirements on employers for hiring employees are strict. Look up I-9 requirements. Failure to gather the proper documents from employees can lead to a 10,000 dollar fine and potential jail time - so employers are very unwilling to employ under a social secutiry card alone - there are too many fakes out there.

I was just sleeping and all the sudden (like 3 minutes ago) I hear the same noise which always wakes me up when my SO wakes me up in the morning (I sleep next to my laptop in order to be as much with my sweetie as possible) and it turned out it was the alarm I have set to my mailbox... because of something what I just received containend this:

Ooh more exciting news not sure if any of you remember that interview I went to a couple weeks ago...well got told today I have a second interview on Tuesday! EEEEK! What is kinda funny is I really don't know what this job I am even applying is for LMAO! My boss kinda put me up to it as she thinks I would be good at whatever it is LOL. It has some fancy title like "Vocational Assessment Director" and I would be working at a Rehabilitative Services place. All I know is MORE money!!! Always good! My boss also gave me tips for interview as I guess the guy interviewing me is known to be kinda a sneaky jerk in interviews but otherwise is a cool guy. So well if it is meant to be it is meant to be I say!

Great news Sunnybear - good news travels in threes you know, so keep checking your e-mail. Actually, even better, if you use yahoo you can set it up to have your cell phone text'd if you receive an e-mail from the USCIS. That way you wouldn't have to hover around the computer (as spoken by a former helecopter man himself).

LOL well I already have emails being forwarded to Gareth as well since he is 5 hours ahead so if it comes during the night he shall get it before me haha! I swear that would be the best birthday gift ever though if we got our approval before Sunday! Trying not to get hopes up though as seems we filed in the unlucky week or something haha. We must have the adjuicator that is still on holiday or something haha! Oh well trying to change my attitude again here and think positive and just focus on that it WILL happen someday haha!

Thanks Kim! Yes; that's how I was viewing it, as a compliment that his family would want to be there. As it is we may be going back to the intimate ceremony anyway - Alex couldn't book the venue after all. I think we just haven't given enough notice. His family get together every Christmas anyway so they can always wish us well then.


You are right; I have been e-mailing his mother but could still probably be a little more proactive. Sometimes I do want to help and sort things out and other times I feel like I just don't care and want to leave it all up to them - but then I can't complain when things aren't what I'd like.

Alex has switched from an evening/night shift to a day shift. This means I get to talk to him less often, but hopefully if the schedule sticks it'll be a lot better for when I'm actually in the US.

hello evrybody, Congartulations to all the new approvals from CSC:) our case was touched 05/06/2008 , aww,hope it's a sign of approval...we filed since December, NOA1 issued only on the 1st February, so we are lost between decemeber january and februday filers....

I hope it's a sign of approval too! My touch was. At the very least you know that your petition isn't lost.

And that just means you can post in all three December, January and February filer threads!

Rachel, i'm glad you're not stressing about the 'ceremony'. That was pretty much my point I suppose. Although it's an important day... in the big scheme of things.. it's still just a day! We're pretty happy that we dont need to stress out about throwing something together at the last minute now and we can focus on what all of this is really about...US. Yet, we still get our big 'to-do' and can celebrate with both families in the near future...just not that near! I hope it works out the same for you! Whatever you do, it will be special because it will be about the two of you.

Bryan and I started talking about our honeymoon a few days ago, and we're been thinking about going to Hawaii! Right now it's only a dream, it's not going to happen anytime soon (not until next year), but it seems like the best destination in the USA

We're thinking about Hawaii or California...my Aunt volunteered to use her Hilton points (she has millions because she travels for work so much) to pay for any Hilton resort we want to stay at. There is one in CA that is on the beach, but also about 30 minutes from Disneyland...so we could go to the theme parks for a day or two. (It's the Huntington Beach Hilton, for anyone who knows of it.) I can't wait for our honeymoon!!

I'm sure someone has covered this before but how do you know when the NVC receives it and when its moved on to the consulate?

The NVC will send you a letter once it's processed and sent to the embassy. I was nowhere near patient enough to wait for another letter, so I was on the phone within a few days of our NOA2.

Call the NVC at 1-603-334-0700. Press 1, then press 5.

The line is frequently busy, but if you call early in the morning or late at night, it's easier to get through. I always got through eventually in the same day I was trying.

At first they will ask you for your NVC number, since you don't have that yet, just tell them you have a CSC processing number. They'll need the petitioner's name and birthday and the beneficiary's as well. Then, if they have received your papers, they'll give you the NVC number. The lady I talked to was super nice and said they have received my papers that morning (Mon, June 2) and she expected they would be done by Friday. I called back Wednesday and got another really nice lady, and she said everything had gone through and was in the mail to Costa Rica that morning (Wed, Jun 4).

I asked about tracking the package and she said nothing is tracked, contradicting what other VJ members have said here. Who knows the truth. I tried doing what other VJ members have done, tracking online via some secret DHS codes and could never find mine going to Costa Rica. Now, I will start calling Costa Rica in a few days to see if it's arrived yet.

I received Packet 3. It's good to see how cheap and unprofessional it looks. The letters are addressed 'Dear SURNAME, FIRST NAMES' and aren't signed, and I didn't realise that they didn't send the forms to you - you have to print them out yourself. Good to see it reached the London embassy safely, though!

Yes! And about three and a half weeks from NVC receiving my petition.

It was exciting to see the envelope stamped with 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and 'Official Business' underneath. Until now I'd not seen any of the letters (NoA2, NVC letter) or e-mails that have been sent by USCIS and getting the information second-hand from Alex just isn't quite the same!

Opening the packet was less exciting. Geez, they could at least print on good-quality paper and refrain from using Comic Sans (! It was used for 'where to have American-size passport photos taken), don't you think?

Shhhhh..... Good quality paper would somehow mean more taxes Lol..... I called the NVC to see if they had our papers but I guess it was a little too soon yet. They said try at the beginning of the week...
