thats an old article from March of 2007. She was banned for 6 months then allowed to come back to the USA. They were lucky. They committed visa fraud and then got caught. She could have been banned permanently.

Just another example of the squeaky wheel...complain in the media about "how unfairly you've been treated", and you get carte blanche to thumb your nose at the law...

The same thing happened in Orlando; a woman from South America married her USC husband, they had a couple of kids, NEVER FILED ANY PAPERWORK!!!, and was boohoo-ing to the local media when immigration was sending her home..."But we have a business and children together..."

Yeah, lady, and YOU KNOWINGLY BROKE THE LAW!!!

And, yes, the government caved in and allowed her to stay while they filed the paperwork about 7 years after they should have......

Unbelievable....

Sad story and I'm glad it worked out for them in the end, but they really should have paid more attention to the rules and regulations. What frustrates me is that those of us who do abide by the rules and do everything by the book get screwed.

We ended up having just 2 months to organize our wedding, after the K1 visa was approved -- we had it in Boston since it was mid-way between California and England -- and we managed ok. We didn't see the point risking anything by arranging something preemptively.
