Hi, I am Nadine, I am also a military spouse. We are currently stationed at Barksdale AFB, LA, but about to PCS to Baumholder, Germany.
I have a quick question: I just recieved my conditional greencard in March 2008. I know that in general my time in Germany won't count against me and that I still meet the residence requirements in order to lift conditions.
But how does it work if I want to travel back to the US after being outside the country for more than a year? Usually I would need a re-entry permit, but how is it for the military? I was told I only need a copy of my husbands orders (with my name on it of course) and I shouldn't have any problems at the border. Is that true?

Hi Nadine,

Have you thought about using those PCS orders to expedite the process for citizenship ???
That way you'll have your passport and not have to worry about it all.
From what I understand of the process ... as long as you hold a greencard (even with conditions) .... and there is the military involved .... especially with PCS orders .... you should be able to expedite your citizenship process.

Do discuss this with the CO as he can get involved in that process quite happily.

Sorry I haven't been on your website lately, it's all been a bit manic .... I hope you are well

Sarah x

Hey!
No, I haven't thought about that. I am not even sure if or wen I want to apply for citizenship. For now I am thinking I will only do it if I can keep my german citizenship. So I am in no rush with that.
I just need to know about the travelling part right now.
But thanks for pointing that out, I never thought a PCS would be reason to expedite citizenship. I don't even think it helps expediting the removal of conditions. I am not even married for two years at this point. lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're able to keep your German Citizenship too as U.K. people can.
Yes, PCS orders will be enough (I'm pretty sure) to be able to expedite citizenship.
My Husband's CO said all I would need is my greencard, conditions or not.

Hi All,

I haven't posted in a while, so much going on it's really hectic right now. My K3 interview was on Friday, I was approved, Consulate should issue by today and I will have it tomorrow. I plan to leave South Africa on Sunday, 25th............ My husband is jumping out of his skin with excitement (and I am not far behind) :-) So, the next time I post will be from my new home.

Thanks for your guidance, we'll keep you in our prayers. Take care,

Hi all,

I am a military wife too. We met when I was living in Belgium and he was stationed in Germany. We both went to watch dragraces in Bitburg.

I would have never found this threat if it weren't by accident... I came to the states on a K-1 so would never ever have looked at IR-1 / CR-1...
Maybe it is a good idea to put it in the "off topic" area so more people will actually see it? There are loads of military spouses on VJ but not all are IR-1 / CR-1 and will never even think about looking in those topics...
Just my 0.2cents

Have been trying to get our own forum as our processing is extremely different at times .... but no go, so far.

If everyone contacts VJ to get our own forum, that would be brilliant as they ignored me, 3 times.

Even off topic won't make it easier .... I'm one of those that doesn't venture into the off topic area ... our own forum is the only way to go.

Ohhhh... hi, Sarah!!! I am so excited to reach to this page to reply you... drives me crazy for taking almost 10 minutes go reach to this page... it's crazy and I am crazy too... Well, let's expect for the best about the Visa things... My husband is in Iraq now, and it drives me crazy too even if the petition was sent to NVC... They still need some small paperwork from my husband and with his personal signature too... I wonder how he could do that since he is not in the states ...

But anyway. We hope you hear something good for your petition and it will go smoothly as I hope it will be this way for everyone else here too!!!

Hi Nadine,

Orders should do it. They are well aware of such things at POEs.
Enjoy your time in Germany for me! I loved it there the three years we were stationed in Pirmasens.

Being in the AF isn't bad. At least the deployments are still under a year (most of the time). My husbands next job will be with the Army though, well, an AF detachment on an Army post, so that will be different for us.

Well guys .... I got approved today!
Thank you for all the support you have given me so far.

Just to let all you military spouses without deployment pending, looming or current, expedites are not impossible .....

You must involve the Commander (the higher up the better) and a Senator and apply for an expedite under National Interest.
Mine was backed up with Financial and Humanitarian, but I know that they didn't really bother reading past the Colonel's letter stating the importance of the expedite.

Of course no expedite is guaranteed, but my case shows that it is possible.

Everyone in the military regardless of rank is very important to the mission .... the mission being the protection of the United States (whether they are deployed or not) .... this comes under National Interest.

Now, I'd better get my arse in gear for NVC

and now he is in part time National Guard aside from his full time civilian work.

I just want to say hello to you all, and want myself to track this topic..

And, yeah i thought they process quicker military cases.. But seems not..

Thank you guys.. By the way, is anyone here from Kansas or Nebraska? luv.gif

Mrs. Hooks,

I've brought the above quote over from your last postiing on Expedite Tips.

We've discussed this issue for months .... and I'm getting a little confused as to what the issue is.
You really don't need anyone to intervene on your behalf.
You've had all the information about how to expedite for deployment ..... it's an accepted expedite criteria.

Please, just fax the orders, a cover letter and your NOA1 to Vermont .... as your Husband is coming back in July now, you could be running the risk of losing your expedite option.

As far as the Rear D is concerned, he may not realise that the Army can help out with a letter which is put together tightly .... this was new to my Husband's Commander the other day until we asked for it .... so please be patient with him and outline exactly what you are looking for in a calm and collected manner .... but only if your expedite goes to to rat crap the normal way.

If you have not faxed the orders over yet with the letter and NOA1 please send it today, do not delay it anymore.

I've just read there is no longer anyway of expediting by fax thru Vermont

http://www.nafsa.org/regulatory_informatio...hanges_expedite

You call the Customer Service phone number (Military Helpline) and tell them you're requesting expedite for Military Deployment .... you'll hear within 5 working days about sending your information etc.

Congrats Sarah!

I haven't been on in AGES, been so busy but I'm excited to hear that you got through finally! I have been waiting for what seems like forever for my husbands orders to get here from Iraq. Well happy to say it arrived this morning. I am holding on to the package till monday though and then going to fed-ex it to the deliveries address for the chicago lockbox overnight. Should get there by tuesday morning, then we can start this ball-a-rollin'!

My darling husband was even good enough to get a letter from his commander as well to go in with the package, so I am hoping to get some word about it by the end of next week or early the following week. Also keeping my fingers crossed to be at NVC by the end of the month.

I will definately keep my timeline updated as the events unfold.

Yay againn for you and everyone else who's been approved since I was on last!!

P.S. I finally have a 'homecoming week'. It's still a few months away, and my dream is to get my visa before hubby comes back! That would just be awsome biggrin.gif

Everyone in the military regardless of rank is very important to the mission .... the mission being the protection of the United States (whether they are deployed or not) .... this comes under National Interest.

Now, I'd better get my arse in gear for NVC

Hi everyone,

I second this advice.
My husband and I filed petitions for K-3 visa and they were pending at Vermont.
Our Senator`s office filed our expedite request on grounds of DOD National Interest this morning. In less than half an hour (!), they got a telephone call from USCIS that the expedite was approved.
This evening, less than 12 hours later, both our I-130 and I-129F got approved, we just received the emails from CRIS.
My husband just got back from deployment and hasn`t received his new deployment orders yet, so at first, after reading how tough it is to get an expedite, we weren`t even going to try.
However, after Sarah got a positive, we figured we would give it a try. And we got a yes in record time.
So if you are a military spouse, please do not listen to anyone that tells you that you need actual deployment orders in hand, since that is not (no longer) true.
Expedites are exceptional, and there is no guarantee for getting your expedite request approved. But our case getting approved in less than a day, and of course Sarahs case, proves it is not impossible.
Just draft your letter carefully, get help from your (spouses) CO and a Senator or Congressman, and read Sarah`s expedite tips in another thread.
And good luck, if you decide to try.

Hello Bex.

Thank's we recive the NOTICE FINALLY . we havent called NVC if they recive our application.. i want to thank LING, SARAH.."well sarah was been banned cos of helping some of us,, i just wonder why they did it???
wish me luck in my NVC journey

Hi Mrs Hooks.

Sarah's ban has ended now but I think she has decided not to come back because of the way she was treated. Sadly that whole argument got a bit out of control, although it may have seemed like she was banned for helping us, it wasn't about the expedites it was more about the topic which Sarah had started and some of the comments that were made. Please don't let this stop you talking to others about the expedite process; Sarah was making a real break through educating people about them before she left and if we start feeling like we can’t talk about it openly then others wont be able to benefit from the success you guys have had.

I hope that your all well, have a great weekend and Congratulations again.

Get out of here....for what? I never saw that anywhere. I hope you're kidding!
BexandAlan
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news ... There was a pretty huge argument that broke out as a result of one of Sarah's posts a few weeks back. It got very heated and eventually quite personal and the next thing we knew Sarah had been given a week ban, I guess to make sure that the topic had chance to die down. I don't know if anyone else involved received a ban as well. She has been such a help to so many of us on here but sadly I don't think she felt like she was getting any support from those that help run the forum. Let’s hope that she will be back sometime in the future. In the mean time I think it would be a real shame for people to stop talking about the expedites and helping each other achieve them.

Best Wishes

I used my maiden name when I applied for that and I have to apply for that again since my this one expried wacko.gif

· Form I-864EZ (optional)

· 2007 Federal Tax Return and W2 (including Form 1099's)

Exactly, Bex! Expedites due to DOD National Interest are indeed possible for military spouses, regardless of deployment orders.
Maybe some people do not like such expedites being filed, but I say screw that. USCIS approves such requests and that is really all that matters. It gives us a chance to be with our spouses sooner in the precious time that they are home from deployment.
If anyone wants more info about this expedite, then please do not hesitate to send me a message.
BTW this not only works at USCIS, but also NVC.
And I hope Sarah will be back on the forum eventually.
