I had a call last night from a friend. Her USC husband has been told by his mother that he shouldn't sign her application for citizenship. She can apply in May and had planned to do this. Her husband is a mother's boy and will do whatever she tells him. The mother in law says my friend has a 10 year green card and needs nothing else. She told her son that if my friend gets citizendhip then she will divorce him. He is such an idiot that he believes this and is too stupid to know that she could divorce him now if she wanted to.
Can my friend still apply for citizenship or will she have to wait another 2 year?
Actually, no. He doesn't sign her citizenship application. Tell her that she is eligible to apply and that she should do it. The only thing prohibitive about this is the $675 fee, but if she can get that together she should definitely submit.
Thank you Staashi,
I'll let her know and if she doesn't have the $675 I'll write a check myself.
I've copied off the checklists of doccuments she will need and will help her make sure she has them.
The hard thing will be coaching her for the test as her English is limited and my Bangladeshi is non existant.
I suppose that should be good practice for me though it will be 2 1/2 years before I need to worry about applying for myself.
