I have just got a K1 and I'm now in the US and have applied for SSN can I work? I think I have a EAD stamp given to me at JFK

If you have an EAD you can work. But be advised that the EAD expires after the 90 days so you will want to marry and apply for AOS as soon as possible so that your EAD stays valid.

Best of luck with the job hun!

Yes you can look for work... your temp EAD Stamp will allow you to work for 90 days from the date you entered the US... it the expires and you will not be employment authorized again until you have been approved for the 1 year EAD that you file for along with your AOS....

They need to file for AOS (I-485) AND EAD (I-765) and receive the EAD card or Green-Card to continue to be work Auth.

There may be a gap between the I-94 card expire and getting the EAD or Green-card that the non-immigrant will be not work authorized.

I asked for a work stamp at JFK but the stamp they put on my I-94 is unreadable so i have no idea if it is a work stamp or not. Could anyone tell me how to tell if it is a work stamp or not?

I "think" this is the JFK stamp.

I can't say for sure though. I didn't get the stamp myself.

Nope, thats not it, the one you show there is the I-551 stamp, that is issued to immigrant visa holders only, that is IR-1 or CR-1 visa holders. I-551 = Green-Card.

I looked last night for an EAD stamp picture and could not locate one.

The temporary stamp actually is placed on the I-94 and not in you r passport.

Yep!

It's on the back of my I-94 Departure Record. No scan available, but here's a description.

Under the Record of Changes Header

- One IO (the first one) wrote my Alien Nr

- then later at the second desk (behind baggage claims) another IO stamped a red ink stamp with the words "NYC 62, Employment Authorized, Date" and then wrote in the dates 12/30/07-3/29/08.
