Hello my fellow vj members! Can anyone give me a detailed report on their experiences arriving into the USA especially at the Detroit International Airport? This will be my p.o.e. and I do not want to be surprised by any unpleasant events there. I am concerned about what the immigration officials check about my visa and passport. Thanks!

Detroit airport is huge so you have to have enough time to move around from the immigration to your next flight. Don't worry there will be people to assist you where to go but expect that you have to stand for awhile in a line. Just after the immigration officers you can see you luggage. The officials there are nice and ask simple questions only don't forget to hand carry your brown envelope. God bless you and Have a safe trip.

Hello,

You will be asked a basic questions about your relationship and as what was advised, hand carry your brown envelope! then just ask to any officer there if you are confused whats next and where to go! God Bless!!
DavidandJenny
Just remember that any POE here in the USA will be a new experience, unfamiliar territory, a large airport. And as said before 'ask questions or assistance' but from Authorized Personel only (flight attendants, ticket counter representatives, immigration officials etc.)

You will be ok good.gif

Dont forget to hand carry your sealed brown envelope from the USEm, the immigration officer will ask u some questions abt your petitioner after that they will stamped your I-94 that is valid for 90 days upon your arrival. Dont worry you'll be ok...have a safe trip!!!

Just be very observant. Immigration officers will do whatever they think is necessary. They'll ask you few questions and they will also instruct you on what to do upon getting to your destination (i.e. getting married within 90 days, adjusting your status, etc., which we all know already). It is important that you handcarry the sealed envelope. They will ask you for that. They'll take a picture and fingerprint (biometrics) and then will stamp your passport (visa page) of it's expiration. They will give you the part of the Departure Record (I-94) with its expiration (same date they stamp on your passport. It's either they'll staple it on your visa or hand it to you. Make sure you keep that one. After that, you are ready to go.

Good luck and have a safe trip here in US!

i went thru detroit too. the officer asked questions like what's the name of your fiance, where are you going, do you have a wedding date - basic stuff. then she stamped my passport, got the brown envelope, and gave me the 1-94. that's what i remember. you'll be ok!!

I travelled alone too last Feb22.. my POE was LA and when i get in front of the immigration line.. i asked an officer which line is fine K1 visa, she told me the options which immigration officer to line up with coz their too many and I wanted to get a shorter line. Asked question to an officer maintaining the line up, that will save you time not lining up on a wrong immigration officer. (There are lines for US citizen only and for those immigrants!)

When you get to the line, be ready for your passport, the do not open packet (the brown envelope) and don't forget to fill up the blue paper (forgot what its called! hehe for the declaration of plants etc.. sorry) and the long white paper which is for the I-94... its been given out before the plane lands!

Hand it over to the officer and of course say hello and smile! hehe
The good thing about my experience at the officer... he didn't ask me anything.. he just opened the envelope and checked it, wrote something.. then prepare my I-94 and staple it to my passport then asked me for my finger print.. and that's it!! I'm Done! Picked up my luggage and Welcome to USA!

my POE was Detriot too.. I travelled last Feb.21 with my daughter with NWA. at Detriot, from getting off the plane we walked leading to the immigration, there is a sign that you can follow and a person in-charge and will instruct you where you will gonna fall in line.( good she was a pinay! she talked to me in tagalog and instructed me what to do ) as first immigrant you will fall in line to the VISITORS side..the other side is for the US citizen..you should fill-out the form I-94 and the custom declaration sheet and hand carry it together your important docs. the immigration officer will ask the docs. and ask you some questions, taking the finger prints and then take photos, if you're done with him he will instruct you what to do next. you will then get you're luggage and exit but they will check again your things and will ask you if you bring some foods...what kind of foods...they will ask if you are first immigrant, then after that they will instruct you to follow the green arrow leading to customs checking area..they will check your things again and they will ask you the customs declaration sheet after you're done you can exit...

***just be observant, and if you have some questions dont hesitate to ask someone.

HAPPY TRIP!!!! Bring with you you're coats! its too cold!!!

Hey nicks,

You said they checked your things? And several times at that? What kind of checking did they do? I am just curious because I have bought a couple of bags and purses from Greenhills for my personal use so I am wondering if they would check them and will hold me when they see those designer bags? I know its kinda "off" question, but I am bringing those stuff. Your input will be of much help. THanks and Godbless

well i brought some bags like that too and put them in my luggage, they didn't really open the luggage and also the carry-on bags, of course after getting your luggage and you exit they will check if that things are really yours and also i just show them the foods that i brought coz the officer wanted to see it. your things will pass through an x-ray machine anyway.

You will be given forms to fill out while you're in the plane. These forms are to be presented to the immigration officer upon port of entry.

its the custom's declaration form. =)

i got in with my hubby last March 3, 2008 via Detroit. no questions were asked by the CB Officer (i guess because hubby was with me). a fingerprint of my forefinger was taken and was asked to sign a form. save yourself some time and go to counter 37 or the special processing counter. we lined up at counter 41 and after looking at our passports were told to go to counter 37.

have a safe trip everyone!
