It was reported on the news last night (local news here in Detroit) that there is a movement beginning in the Senate about possibly expediting immigrant applications (marriage-based that is) that intend to become full-fledged citizens in the future. It was rather interesting to me that the government wouldn't so much work on making the overall process faster, but only for those who plan on applying for citizenship after they have fulfilled the criteria.

On one hand, I see the point that was being discussed, that some folks come to the United States because their significant other's job pays better currently or whatever, but then leave the country once they retire, but others come wanting the American dream and to flourish here. To me this doesn't really seem like the part of the process that needs looking at, but rather the 4-7 month waiting times for interviews in Montreal and such. Kind of reminds me how there's a war going on in Iraq but we have Senate meetings regarding some pitcher shooting up drugs in his bum haha.

After seeing my wife go through the process to come from Canada to here, then seeing the way the Canadian government has been treating her family's immigration case, it really makes me wonder why the American government can never react to the important things first smile.gif

Just to add a little more love for Canada, when my wife came to the States her family and her had actually already been in Canada for 2 1/2 years, and Canada actually used their pending status towards her family's time needed to apply for citizenship. This will cause her entire family to get citizenship in Canada before my wife gets her citizenship in America, and they had absolutely no status in Canada other than pending for years smile.gif

That is so awesome that Canada allows the pending time to count towards citizenship. Yay for Canada! *waves flag*
