Hello Everyone!

I am writing because I feel a little bit overwhelmed at the moment and need advice from those more experienced than myself. HELP!! smile.gif

My husband and I submitted the I-130 petition in Delhi on Feb. 6th (paid for it, received packet 3.5 in hand). Since then, we have been gathering all the required documents, certificates, records, etc. while thinking that we would get a packet from the Chennai office by the end of February if lucky.

As I am anxious to get things rolling, I sent an inquiry email to the Chennai Consulate about what the next steps would be - would they send us the infamous packet 4, and when?

The response that came back was muddled (for me anyway) and stated that they would send packet 4 only when the interview had been scheduled, and that I should send the forms from packet 3.5 to them - but NOT include any documents, to wait until the interview to submit those...

I replied again, asking exactly which forms were needed - the DS 230 I and II, I-864, DS 2001 - or just the DS 230? The reply came back: send just the forms, not any documents...

I am confused, I thought that the Chennai office would notify us when they had received the I-130 petition from Delhi, sending us the Packet 4 which we would then return with all our documents... ??? It appears that we are to send them the forms from the 3.5 packet and THEN they will schedule an interview??? I don't want to delay our process any further by waiting for them to send us something that will never come...

We still have a few more things to get in our hands (police certificates are mid-process at this moment, back-taxes have just been couriered away), and we should have everything ready to 'testify to' in a DS 2001 before the 10th of March when the April interviews are scheduled.

Has anyone else been through this process?? I feel that I will only go in circles if I contact the consulate office again - HELP!

hi,

I think you have submitted just the I-130 petition yet. THe forms which they are asking is probablu I-864 and DS230 part 1 and 2 ... part 1 signed.. and part 2 unsigned. THe documents which are to be submitted with it... they would be taking at the time of interview I think. I am not sure what is DS2001 ... since I havent gone through the DCF process.

From what I have gather reading other post once the embassy or consulet send the PAcket 3/3.5/ (I am ready to interview packet) you submit the DS230 part 1 signed part 2 unsigned COPIES of all required PCC's (depending on sitution) COPIES of first and last page of the benificarys passport & birth certifcate COPY of filled out I-864 and supporting docs. Then take all ORGINALS to the interview.. I THINK smile.gif

OHH AND don;t forget the MEdical Unopened to the interveiw... GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

carolyn,
i had a question, how long have you been in India before you went for DCF? did you have to meet the residency requirement of 90 days or was it less?
please let me know, i'm starting for India tomorrow and can explore DCF as well.
thanks

Hi Moghli,

I have been in India since July 2005, (yearly work visas) so I am over the 90 day mark. I think (but I could be wrong!) that you have to be in India for 6 months now to show residency. There may be loopholes to this, check this site to see what others have done. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
