Hi guys,

My husband's two year green card expires in June of 2009, and we'll apply for lifting of conditions. I know that he will receive the extension for one year, but does anyone have advice about whether travel during this year long wait outside the US is okay.

Thanks!

As long as you have the NOA1 extension letter and the expired greencard and a valid passport you are free to travel durring the Removal period...

Make sure he has that letter, as my husband had forgotten his one time and was not allowed on the airplane in his country. I had to come home alone on the flight and fedex him the letter when I got back. OUCH! That sucks. I travelled last year with expired green card, NOA and passport and was checking that I had all three more often than I was checking my boarding pass. I'm not paranoid, I just KNOW something bad will happen.

Nothing, I'm just being a pessimist. I'm one of those people that if I join the shortest line in a store then the other lines will move faster. If I overtake a car to get into a fast lane, the car ahead of me will break down. I'm used to it. Don't ind me.

My husband had to go back to Argentina one month after going through all of that. He was just like you - he kept checking for everything to make sure he had it all. Oddly enough though, that time around he wasn't asked for anything but his passport - he was saying to himself "are you kidding me?". Was very ironic compared to the previous time. After what we've been through I tell people to plan for the worst - make sure you have all documents and leave copies at home - just in case they need to be sent to you. ohmy.gif

It really was. We were in the Buenos Aires airport and it was the middle of the night. I had a major job interview scheduled in two days - so we made the executive decision that I would travel home alone. What made it very difficult, was I had major surgery 2 1/2 months before while I was there and still needed his attention - I couldn't lift anything heavy. Also, we hadn't been separated any time in those 2 1/2 months so it was like major separation anxiety. He took a flight home to his province and I flew to Miami and then had to drive 400 miles to Tallahassee. It really was just nuts. I got home and fedex-ed the document immediately and he came home a week later. I pray to God that nobody has to go through what we did - it was one of the worst times. Oh, one other thing, I didn't get the job!

We had no problems with it when he entered the US from Scotland last year. The people in Scotland were giving us a hard time though, which is ridiculous. But it worked out.

Driving over the border from Canada made me nervous though, because the guy acted like he had never seen an extension letter before. It was ok though.

My husband recently traveled home to AUS for a visit on his expired greencard, AUS passport, and with NOA1 from filing removal of conditions. He didn't encounter any problems at all.

Just make sure you have the NOA1 before you go. It is not enough to have a postal delivery receipt etc.

Best wishes!
