My sweetie just finished her medical and was blindsided by a 500 RON HPV vaccination...just a heads up to anyone that will go for the medical soon.
Bring plenty of money, the total exam was close to 800 RON.

what? since when do you have to have HPV vaccination? thats just a preventional shot for cervical cancer.
Anna C.
That's not even recommended for adult women... HPV is absolutely not a requirement!

What can you do when you don't have an option? They said she needed it and wasn't given a choice.

are you absolutely sure she couldn't have refused? O_O besides, it's a shot you need to get three times (like the hepatitis ones), so 1 shot is absolutely useless. they just wanted the money. it takes nine months to get a full round of HPV vaccination--1 shot every three months.

I think it was a scam. This is definitely not a requirement. HPV vaccine is recommended to like 11-12yr old girls... per the CDC.

yea thats why i thought it was weird that they made her have it, and as someone pointed out, you have to have it 3 times, one time just to enter the US is pointless.

Also vaccinations are not required for the K-1. My wife was at her medical and they "forgot" what visa she was applying for and gave her an update and then realized she was a "K" applicant. Certain vaccinations are required for AOS and they do recommend that you get them done abroad because many times it will be cheaper.....

The CDC recently released an updated vaccination requirement for USCIS which included several new vaccines but K VISAS DO NOT REQUIRE VACCINES UNTIL THEY APPLY FOR AOS. Remember that the medical exams are not opperated by the consulates and do not know the laws. JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET A COPY SO THAT IF USCIS LOOSES THEM SHE WON'T HAVE TO DO THEM ALL OVER AGAIN IN THE US.

I don't know a lot about these shots and my fiancee hasn't been to her medical interview yet, but in our instructions HPV is listed as one of the required vaccinations.
Nina+Matt
wow, thats ridiculous! i think they just recently put that on the list so that they make sure, at least to a certain point (since that shot doesnt make you 100% immune against cervical cancer), that immigrants wont suffer from cervical cancer and claim treatmemt form their health insurances!
DalianaMissy
I will have my medical exam in ~ 2-3 months.
I wonder if i can refuse this HPV vaccine?!?!
Is absurd to get it now....!!!!
... gues i should wait and see
Nina+Matt
wait until you get packet 3 from the embassy and check what vaccines are required now. those vaccinations are due for your aos, so you dont have to get it to get your k1 visa. but you would then need to get the missing vaccinations here in the us before filing your aos.
maybe someone can tell us what the 3 hpv shots cost here in the us, could be cheaper than in your homecountry.

oh i just saw that your not going the k1 route. in this case i dont really know when you have to have all the required shots.
hope someonw else can help you out!
Anna C.
I cannot find anywhere online that USCIS would require the HPV vaccine. What is the source - just that doctor??? Then they are clearly milking people for money.
Sinergy
I would inform the embassy of this whistling.gif
The Robinsons
It seems you're not the only one who's been told to get it. I've seen other posts up here lately where the women had to get it. So whether they've added the HPV vaccination to the list of required vaccinations? Who knows........

Well I am going through my medical soon. I already checked with my family doctor about required vaccination. Well HPV is one of them and pretty pointless as my doctor told me! You'll get 3 shots within 8 month and a shot is about 159 Euro. Well I'll call the doctor where I'll have my medical to find out how this is continuing. I mean first of all I prolly won't even be here for the 2 shot and I'll have him making me a copy of the medical so I don't need to have another medical for AOS!

Anyways this is very expensive and for Women over 18 very pointless. My doctor said u need to obtain the time requirement from 1 first shot till 2 shot till 3 shot very carfully otherwise the whole thing would not protect you.

Well I'll find out about it more on Monday when I'll get in touch with my medical doctor.

I heard about that, and went on the website of the Frankfurt Embassy and printed out the list with vaccination. They say yes when you are between 11 and 26 years old. I turn 27 in a few days, and I'm like 2 months at least away from my medical, so nothing to worry about on my side. Heard how a few times that it's not really save to get those 3 shots. blink.gif

Hey there! I am a February 2008 filler going through the last steps of the K3.
About the medical... I got my vaccination records but I still need to get some more shots. For example recently the HPV (Human Papiloma Virus) vaccine against uterine cancer is mandatory for all women under 26 years old... so I'll have to take that one too. Medical in Romania is about 350 $ of which 200 $ is just the HPV vaccine. The strange thing to me is that they give you the first dose and then for the other 2 you have to continue them in the US... But what wouldn't we do for that long-wanted visa in our passports?! Just about anything... I'll be trying to go for the medical next week June 11-12 and see how it goes.. Pretty nervous right now. I'm really scared about it.

Any experiences?
