i was feeling so alone and overwhelmed at the thought of the huge and lengthy process ahead of me, and finding this forum and particularly finding kim and kelzm, has diminished a lot of that.

it'll be great to be able to talk with people going through the same particular things as me, specific to nz and the auckland consulate.

(ps. Kim, thanks for the PM, i'll reply soon)
KimandRuss
Ahhhhh i'm home smile.gif

Thanks for starting this Ruby.

*clink* here's to a speedy process for all! good.gif
kelzm
Yay! How exciting to see a New Zealand thread. Thanks Ruby, it's great to be able to chat with others going through the process.

Kim, you asked where abouts I'm from and where I'm going. I live in Auckland right now and planning to move to California - heading north a little to the San Benito County.
rubyred
i'm in wellington and heading to california too! i'll be in the bay area, in oakland.

still haven't made up my mind about which option to go for: the one year visa to work, then return to nz and apply for k-1 OR VMP and get married/apply for K-1. i was swaying towards the faster way, but i think doing a year over there, then coming back might be the safest option.

so kim, i think i read in one of your posts that you say the consulate in auckland is really efficient?

i found the US embassy website for nz to be really difficult to navigate... but maybe that's my own lack of computer literacy skills! and i was kind of stunned to find i'd have to call an 0900 for any extra info. i mean, *surely* the embassy is not that inundated with kiwis ringing up about visas? as far as i've been able to tell, not a huge amount of kiwis head to the US (we're much more inclined to head to the Uk/asia - although even before i met jordan, i'd always wanted to spend an extended amount of time in the US).
KimandRuss
kelzm, I was at the coast near Whakatane for three weeks but just left Auckland Monday night. It was heartbreaking. sad.gif

Ruby, here is the link to the review page for the U.S. Embassy in Auckland. From other NZ's i've talked with (K1) the process has gone very fast once the consulate receives the petition from the NVC. Yes, I do believe it's quite a cost to call but I also believe it's well worth it when you do! wink.gif

It seems kelzm had some good luck when she let the POE officers know she was coming to marry. Considering the consequences for visa fraud that others have faced, it's not something I would bring up too much! wink.gif You could easily come over on the work visa (do you know how easy/hard this is for you to get?) and 'decide' whether or not to marry Jordan while you are here.

You mentioned this new 1-yr work visa? We looked into the work ( B ) visa as well but he needed a job to sponser him. Geologists are not in real high demand in Massachusetts. laughing.gif

Looks like you girls will be real close to each other once you are 'home'! smile.gif

p.s. regarding the Embassy website. Auckland handles the immigrant visa's and yeah, they don't really have a website so it's not just you!

i had a feeling i might be at an advantage being a new zealander.

the new one year work visa just came into effect on feb 15. it's for 18-30yr olds (post-secondary students and recent graduates - must be studying full time or have graduated in the last 12 months). luckily for me, i've been taking my time getting my english lit degree, and have only just completed it over summer, so i'm eligible.
KimandRuss
well hell... it seems we've missed the boat on just about everything! DCF changes, fee increases...now this! Russell is just 29 but it's been a few years since he completed his masters. wacko.gif

Congratulations on completing your studies. Hopefully this is easy for you to get and you can take your time with the whole process. smile.gif

yeah, the weird thing is that while i was writing that last post i had this realisation: it's taken me 6yrs on and off to get my degree, mostly because i was really slack and messed around, and i've always really regretted it. but now i realise that if i had been studious and completed my studies when i should have (at least two years ago) i wouldn't be in the position now to take advantage of this opportunity... just goes to show that everything happens for a reason!

the reviews of the consulate are fantastic and have given me a whole new level of confidence. the more i hang out on this forum, the more positive i feel about this process ahead of me.
rubyred
i guess one of the reasons it's relatively easy for nzers to get visas is that there aren't too many reasons why we'd be desperate to get to the US: either for an outrageously fantastic job, or for love. i mean, it's hardly a superior lifestyle in the US. here in NZ we have free healthcare, easy living, good weather, low crime... just a generally pretty awesome country. so i guess they figure that if people are trying to get to the US to live permanently, it really is for the right reasons.

it's not a viable option for jordan to move here, but i would rather live in the US anyway. it'll be better for me career-wise, and i'm excited about the art and literature scene in california. but we definitely plan to come back here for a lot of holidays - jordan's really into the outdoors, hiking and camping and moutain biking, so NZ is really a dream holiday location for all those things. i don't really have strong ties to my family, and most of my close friends are now overseas, so it's going to be relatively easy for me to pack up my life and leave for good. i am, however, prepared to experience a major bout of homesickness, despite all this. i think it's to be expected, and i know i'll be fine after the first few weeks. jordan has decided it's important we have 'new zealand time' on a regular basis, to ease my homesickness, and this is probably going to involve eating marmite on toast and drinking milo. and he's been practising his nz accent smile.gif

KimandRuss
So...perhaps you have your answer.. wink.gif

Because of the way it happened for us, we have lived together and travelled in Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada, England & (him) Ireland over the last 2 years. I'm not sure whether everything happens for a reason or not but I can tell you that I wouldn't give up any of those memories for anything. smile.gif Like I said, we've known each other for 10 years and because we've essentially lived together for two years now it's extremely hard being separated. If there was any way I could be with him through this process I would be. wink.gif

April 11th my divorce if FINALLY final and tomorrow I'll find out if I can simply pick up the decree I need to file for the K1. If so, i'll be sending it to VSC overnight!
rubyred
kim, i really really REALLY wish you the best of luck. i think with a 10yr history together it would be difficult for them to find a reason to deny russ a visa.

i miss jordan intensely. webcams are a great invention, and i'm thankful for them every day, but on those days when the internet freaks out and decides not to work for no apparent reason, it's so disheartening and is just a reminder of how tenuous that communication connection can be.

want to hear a really sweet story? one of the reasons jordan's parents are so great about our situation and how we met is because they were penpals for a really long time (18mths i think?) before they met in person, and their honeymoon was the longest time they had spent together up until that time! and we think we have it tough... imagine only being able to write letters and occasionally talk on the ph for 18mths!
KimandRuss
A lot of kiwi's seem to leave NZ for work. Russell was living in Australia a couple years ago for that very reason. It's an absolutely gorgeous country and the people are so pleasant. It's just so far removed from everything. I'm certainly glad to have ties back to NZ and know we'll be travelling there just as often as we can.

Now if we could just get Scotty to beam us over instead of those 13 hour flights (20 for me).... laughing.gif
rubyred
yeah, a lot of kiwis do leave for work reasons, but mostly to aussie or the UK, not often to the US (as far as i can know).

13 hour flights are pretty sucky, but i have yet to experience it... have to make sure i've got lots of good reading on hand smile.gif

Thank you so much. I wish the same for you.

Technology is a wonderful thing but i'll be SOOOO glad when my heart is no longer dependant on it!

What a great story about Jordan's parents! How sweet. It's so important to get to know someone from the inside out. How wonderful it is to finally be wrapped up in each other though! wink.gif

btw...do you use the phone for communication at all? I've used nobelcom.com for years. It lets me call NZ very cheap. wink.gif We don't use the phone too often but I always have a card available just in case. Yup...we're old pro's at this!

Ok well I must be off to bed now. I think my body is still on NZ time. Look forward to talking with you again soon.

well, we used to phone each other pretty regularly, but mostly IM'd. then we started using skype in september to call each other, and then finally got webcams in october... and haven't really used the phone since, since skype is free.

does anyone use any other video calling service? skype can be pretty crappy a lot of the times, and we're wondering if there's more reliable service out there.
KimandRuss
Yeah, i'm still up...i suck.

We usually chat on msn but have also used aol, yahoo, netmeeting...just about every program I think...besides skype (strangely enough). Sometimes it's nice to just get off of the computer!

goodnight...really whistling.gif
kelzm
Gosh you two are chatterboxes! laughing.gif

Nice to see.

Kim - it's perfectly legal to enter the US to marry on the VWP as long as you are not intending to stay. That's why I took a long a bunch of evidence that I was leaving the country. They could still have turned me away, I actually heard the officer tell another she believe that I was going to return as I 'didn't have very much stuff'. I'd purposefully packed light (usually I take far too much clothing!) so that they wouldn't think I was trying to immigrate illegally.

It was a risk, but I felt pretty confident all through it that I'd be fine. However, while it is legal to go there and marry on the VWP if you're returning I'd probably advise others who are doing that to just state you're there for vacation and marry then return home. It'll save sitting in the little stainless steel room!

cdneh
I am not the only one! yes.gif

I am in Auckland...but I am a Canadian with a returning resident Visa here. My fiancee is in Maryland.

We are just beginning and it all looks so daunting at the moment...I'm so pleased to have stumbled on this web site.

smile.gif

KimandRuss
kelzm... I was wondering about that. I suppose because you left you had no intent to immigrate just marry your love. Thanks for clarifying. I've never heard of anyone taking this route. wink.gif

Welcome cdneh, good to have you with us. smile.gif
kelzm
Nice to meet you cdneh. Good to have you on the NZ thread.
kelzm
Guys, I just got some good news. I've got my NOA2. Yippee.

Hopefully my case will be sent to NVC soon so I can get through there and on to the embassy.
KimandRuss
Oh my goodness! Congratulations kelzm!!! So happy for you! How are you feeling in regards to all of this? Happy to be finally coming 'home' I suppose but is there some anxiety about leaving your son in NZ? Do you use frequent flier miles??? Sorry i'm so nosey! I am so happy for you and wish only the best. Please keep us posted! kicking.gif

I don't want to hijack the thread because this is certainly your moment but i'm a little stoked that so many VSC December filers are being approved lately! Fingers crossed that the trend continues! good.gif

My Russ posted this in the other thread we started...just wanted to share...

Kia ora

this may seem a little strange but its actually kim's other half writing this, i would say better half but that is a lie she is far better half than i could have ever hoped for, and not being with her now is not a burden i like or take lightly (to tell the truth it kills) so i know how you guys must feel with all this waiting, funny thing is if it was viable the other way and kim could come here it would be so easy, for that i am not too happy with the extra wait. but in the end it will be well worth the wait to be able to wrap my arms around her and know that i never have to leave again.

anyways i just wanted to chime in and say hi, i am sure by now you have received all the advice you can process at the moment ruby, i know when kim and i started looking into all this the idea of time apart felt like a big stone hanging over our heads, we are still waiting, but hoping for that magical 2 week process time on the noa2. lol. if there are any of those processing people out there, pleasssssssssssssssssssssssssssse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what ever the case may end up i know we are on the path to something magical.

ok i am gonna stop being soppy

i hope you are all keeping sane,

take care

kelzm
Thanks for putting in Russ's post Kim. I have to agree with him, sometimes I think it'd all be so much easier for us to live in NZ but there are some advantages in the US that just make it the better choice right now.

I'm feeling very excited. I have to admit that I'd been feeling a bit depressed recently. It seemed like things were going so slow. USCIS has to be the worst part of this journey, there's just such an overwhelming silence from them, and such uncertainty on when things are going to be processed. I'm glad not to be moving on to NVC as at least there are steps so I can cross off each one as something achieved when we get to it.

It's all starting to seem a little more 'real' to me now. That makes me both excited, and sad. I can't wait to be able to move to be with my husband, yet at the same time I'm already fretting about leaving my son. It's been me and him together for 14 years and it's going to be a huge change for us both. I'm also very close to my family, my parents will be caring for my son on the weekends when he's home from school, it's going to be difficult to be somewhere I can't see them every week.

Mostly I just try not to think about these things (or I start asking if I'm doing the right thing by my child and stressing), though I think it's going to be some major adjustment for my whole family when the time comes.

It now all seems so close though! I have lots to do, a house to sell, a degree to try and finish, a holiday in May with my husband, I'm hoping the remaining months will fly by with me kept busy. I do use frequent flyer miles, I now always fly airnz, I used to shop around to try and save $$ but mostly it's a saving of only a hundred or so dollars so I'd rather have the miles.

I'm currently tossing up whether to cash in my miles for my one way trip when I move or.... using them to upgrade to business class so I can get the extra baggage allowance (ok, it's mostly I want to have the lie flat beds, and the luxury, girls got to treat herself sometimes, right?)

Whew.... I sure do talk a lot, huh?
KimandRuss
Kelzm, NZ is gorgeous but I own the house my mom grew up in on the street named after my family in the same city that my great-grandparents landed in when they came over from Sicily. Most of my family & friends live within a few miles of each other and we see each other quite often. The job opportunities are better here as well. Russell's parents have a lot of property in NZ so we will always have a home to go back to there as well.

I have a 15 y/o daughter and a 12 y/o son so I understand and sypathize with your anxiety with all of this. Being so close to your folks and having your son staying in NZ has to be difficult. I'm sure you take comfort in knowing he'll be well taken care of. smile.gif You have to do what's right for you and it seems that coming here to be with the man you love and married is what is right. I've always told my parents that the greatest gift they ever gave me was showing me how to love and be loved. I hope I am giving that to my children as well. It's truly life's greatest gift and i'm sure your son knows that and appreciates that mom is happy. smile.gif

So you have to sell your home and finish your schooling??? How much longer is the process expected to be for your visa? The last two couples I have talked to that when through the NZ consulate had their interview within 6 weeks of their NO2 being approved. It will be good to have it all done and just ready when you are!

We flew qantas when Russell came home with me and the kids in 2006 and managed to have the maximum amount of bags at their maximum weights (paid a little extra as well) to get all his things home. What a fiasco that was! laughing.gif Was so much cheaper than shipping it all! though So, most of this things are already here. I'm still waiting for qantas to get back to me regarding all the flights I had with them but last month I flew Air NZ. I did upgrade to premium which was nice but i'd love to go business class! Yes, it's good to be pampered!

Yes, i'm a chatterbox too! It's good to know i'm not alone in all of this. smile.gif
KimandRuss
Ruby... any decisions made yet? And how did dinner with your folks go?

Inquiring minds want to know! laughing.gif
rubyred
hi!!

i have been lurking, but not posting since there's no progress for me yet. we've made the decision for me to go over on the one year work visa (leaving here in early june, most likely), then i'll come back and we'll apply for the fiancee visa. it will most definitely suck having to wait it out over here for as long as it takes (6 months? a year?) but it seems like the safest route to take.

the dinner with the folks happens in two days! i will most definitely report back here smile.gif. good idea, too, about getting photos (i think that was you, kim?). it hadn't occurred to me, but yes - i'm going to tell my parents to make sure they get a couple of photos with jordan.
kelzm
I haven't looked into this ruby, but are you able to apply for your K1 while you're still in the USA? Just wondering if you can do that in your last month or so, at least then when you return to NZ it'll shorten the wait?

Best of luck with that dinner!
rubyred
i've been wondering about that too... i mean, it would so freakin' awesome if we could get the ball rolling a couple or three months before i leave, and i don't see why we shouldn't. but you know what the US govt is like: anything to make life difficult! but i'm going to try and find out.

i've been banging on about this to friends, but i just can't get over the fact that my parents will meet jordan in the flesh before i do, when i've known him for a year and they've only known ABOUT him for a couple of months! it is a very strange world we live in smile.gif
KimandRuss
Good morning/evening ladies...

Ruby, you don't need to have anything to report to post. It's always good hearing from you...reminds me that i'm not alone in this.

Kelzm, hope you're getting more and more excited about your big move!

It's my understanding that as long as you are not entering the country with the intent to immigrate that you are free to marry while here and adjust status. Some people have not had to leave the country at all. There are loads of posts related to that topic here on VJ.

I think for Russell and I it might have caused some problems because he did leave a very good job, his apartment and took all his things. All we knew is that it would take a long time for my divorce to go through and we wanted to be together. We were actually instructed to marry while he was in the country but it didn't work out that way and we didn't want to risk anything by .

It would be much different for you coming on that visa. You're coming on a student visa..meeting your bf for the first time. If you choose to marry him within the next year you can do so while here and adjust status while you remain. That is my interpretation of the law. As long as you don't show intention intitially.

Sounds like a plan!

I have a spark of good news... As you know, we can't file until my divorce is final (April 14th now). They don't mail the divorce decree to you. It's something you need to go pick up sometime after it's final...can take a while. But the registar of deeds called me the other day. I explained the circumstances and he told me that he would pull my divorce decree out and stamp it and have it ready for me the day after my divorce is finalized so that I can mail out the K1 on April 15th. Small stuff really but it's been SUCH an uphill battle for 2 1/2 years now. Now that the VSC is moving along so much faster and that we have a concrete date to send I am seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

We're also contemplating another trip for me to NZ at the end of June. If we're luck and approved real fast I can adjust the tickets so that i'm there for the interview and we can fly home together! If we're still waiting, at least we'll have that time to look forward to and knowing it wont be long from then will make it much easier leaving this time. Last time was was just tragic. sad.gif

Well i'm rambling now but I know you girls understand how i'm feeling.

Have a great day / night.
rubyred
it's nice to feel so welcome here smile.gif

kim, i'll PM you with my email address so you can email any time you feel like chatting/venting/crying on a shoulder.

i really need to look into the adjustment status thing: i was wondering about that, about whether we could get married in the last few months of my visa and i could do all the paperwork from the US. it's just all so complicated, and i have a lot of trouble understanding all the legal/technical jargon. i mean, that would be the ideal situation, because apart from the fact that it will be so hard to leave jordan and come back here, there's also the fact that i'll be coming back to nothing: no job, no house, none of my close friends left in NZ. worst case scenario (and really, the most likely scenario), i would have to move back home to my parents, which would be pretty hard for me. i'd have a lot of trouble finding work in the town they live in.

i'm really close to just taking a week off and flying over to see jordan. but i know that the cost of that would set my savings for the move back by about $2000 (which, on my shitty wages, is a significant amount - about 2 months of saving). seeing the date of meeting being pushed back constantly, it just makes me feel like it's never going to happen. most of the time i feel pretty positive, and i know that it WILL happen, but some days are harder than others (as i'm sure you ladies know all too well). i just want to get out of this limbo and start living my life.

oh, in some indirectly-related good news: there was some doubt over whether i'd passed one of my summer classes (which would have screwed up my plans for leaving NZ), but i got my official grades, and i passed! so i really am done with school, for good!

KimandRuss
Congratulations! That's one more thing you can check off! smile.gif
kelzm
Hey ruby, congrats on having finished school! Must be nice to have that all sorted.

Kim - that's great news about the deed. I know people usually complain about government systems and processes but every now and then someone goes out of their way to do something that just helps make up for everything else. When we got married the celebrant also worked for the city council and as she knew we were going to put forms in to USCIS she had our certificate processed within a couple of days, instead of a couple of weeks.

You'll have to keep us updated with how everything goes. Sounds like Russ could be there pretty soon!
rubyred
so jordan met my parents for a late lunch today, and it went great!

my mum sent me a text message: "he's with us now, he is nice"
followed about 20mins later by a cell phone photo of my dad and jordan together. later on, another pic, of my mum with jordan and text: "what a nice guy. please thank him for lunch for us, as we forgot to. how old is he?" i think they were impressed he paid for lunch. my dad asked him if he thought jordan could put up with my BOSSINESS (thanks dad!!), so i texted my mum later, saying "tell dad I AM NOT BOSSY". but despite my efforts to maintain this as being just a 'friendship' to my parents, i'm pretty sure they know there is definitely something more going on. just a few things they said to jordan. but they seemed to really like him. i'm sure it'll seem less weird to them, that i met him on the internet, now that they've met him in person (even though i haven't!).
kelzm
Sounds like everything went great Ruby. Great news that your parents liked him.
KimandRuss
Awww i'm so happy for you, 'Ruby'. smile.gif You must have had butterflies in your belly the whole time. smile.gif

Isn't it funny how parents just know these things? My mother knew I was pregnant with my first child before I told her.

As a parent, I can tell you that what they want most of all is for you to be happy. It sounds like they've seen in Jordan much of what you've see. smile.gif

Kelzm... as I told Russell last night... tomorrow wouldn't be soon enough and an eternity wouldn't be long enough. I'm going to plan on a June visit and an August arrival. Although i'd take sooner! wink.gif

Any idea when you'll be travelling yet?
kelzm
I'm visiting in May (yay).

Hoping for a September move, if everything goes through smoothly I should be able to make that easily.
rubyred
that's such good news, to hear both you ladies are well on your way.

today i filled out the official application to the sponsorship agency, to get started on procuring me a J-1 visa. this is entailed paying out $995 which was very sad for my bank balance.

now i sit back and wait for and IEP rep to get in touch with me...
KimandRuss
Yikes! That's a hefty fee! I'm glad you got the ball rolling. smile.gif

kelzm, aren't you dying to get here? Russell is staying in Auckland for two days after his interview so he can pick up his visa and fly home to me! laughing.gif

Well it seems even January filers are now being approved already by the VSC! ohmy.gif There are some who filed much earlier still watiing but it seems new petitions are being processed at a super fast rate. We're contemplating putting off the June trip now because in reality, if things keep progressing the way they are at the VSC, he could be here as soon as June/July! Decisions...Decisions.... wacko.gif

We also found out that Russell's family will be travelling here from NZ for our wedding. We were planning on a very quiet romantic ceremony but it seems that now we'll need to have a somewhat formal shin-dig.... that we somehow put together within the 90 day grace period. Oh well, i'll take it. It will be nice for them to be here and to meet all of the people that Russell is already so close to and who care about him. smile.gif

There are a couple of other NZ/US couples about ready for the interview phase. I've let them know about our little corner over here.

Have a great day ladies!
kelzm
Oh! Good work Kim, hopefully the other NZ couples will join in and let us know how things go at interviews. I'm very curious about the consulate and what kind of timeframes things move through there.

I am excited to move, but I've still got lots to sort out here in NZ. The most important thing is timing my move to be around school holidays for my son. I'm still unsure how long its going to take for me to get through NVC, I really hope I get approved by August so that I can make the September trip, otherwise I may have to reevaluate and leave it till December.

I want to bring him over for his first ever vist to the US right after I make the move, so he can see where I am, see the room that I'll set up for him and also we can have a great holiday (Disneyland!) before I get a job and end up with no vacation time. tongue.gif

Good morning errr evening my kiwi friends. smile.gif

Kelzm, from everything i've read the Auckland consulate is very effecient. I'm not sure if the process is the same for other visa's but I would imagine so.

Have you seen this page about the NZ consulate?
kelzm
I hadn't seen that page, thanks Kim, very useful/

One thing though, it says that the consulate does not answer email. I actually emailed them a couple of nights ago to ask some questions for my son around custody and parental permission, as well as if I needed to be there for his interview.

They got back to me the next morning and asked a bunch of questions about my process as well. I told them my planned timeline, with an approval by August and they thought it was achievable. If you do have questions it's worth trying an email.

Very prompt answers, and pleasant emails. I feel quite positive about the Auckland consulate part of the journey!

the auckland consulate does sound really great - that review page that kim posted the link to made them sound super efficient, which definitely makes me feel better about the process. so if i can figure this out, hopefully below you'll see a photo of jordan with my parents....

they just got back yesterday, and i got an email from mum this morning telling me yet again what a 'lovely chap' she thinks jordan is smile.gif

Hi girls.

'Ruby'...Jordan is a doll. smile.gif Guess it's about time to 'have that talk' with mom and dad. wink.gif

Kelzm...I'm so glad you got through! But where did you email? That reveiw that I linked is the last and it's from last January of 2007 so it could be out of date. The website still says it does not respond to emails regarding either visa.

So you ladies know there are other reviews if you click on 'previous' but they're all earlier than that one.

he's certainly the most handsome guy i've ever met wink.gif

yeah, i figure the next phone call home i'm gonna get the spanish inquisition, but i feel a lot more prepared for it, now that my folks have met him in person. i'm still going to play it pretty cool, though - i think they'd freak out if they knew just how serious we are. and don't need the stress of them breathing down my neck about how i'm 'rushing' into something (they wouldn't understand that a year of heavy, frequent and intimate correspondence is hardly to be considered 'rushing' things).

love your new pic, kim!
kelzm
What an awesome picture Ruby. Hopefully soon you'll have one of you and Jordan together. I agree with Kim, it's definitely time to have that talk with Mum and Dad!

Kim - I had read on the consulate site that contact was by phone only. The other night I tried to find their info and ended up at the Wellington Embassy site which had this address for contacting the consulate: aucklandacs@state.gov

I found that here: http://newzealand.usembassy.gov/contact_us.html

Since that page didn't say not to email I took the chance. whistling.gif

The email was then forwarded to the IV section of the consulate who replied to me from this address: AucklandIV@state.gov

They didn't seem upset with me emailing instead of using the ($3.26 a minute) phone line. And I think it was easier to convey my questions that way also.

Morning ladies...

Justine, glad you like the picture. It was taken in Whakatane. I thought it showed more of us. There are also pictures of my kids with Russell's neice at an all blacks game under our 'my photos' link. Do let us know how the conversation goes with your parents. No matter how old we get it seems mom and dad's opinions and blessings matter in our choices. This is all new to them but i'm sure it will all be just fine. smile.gif

Kelly, thanks so much for the info! That should be helpful in the future! I'm not surprised they were so nice. smile.gif

Well life finally feels like it's coming into order again. Been a long time since i've felt that! Less than 7 weeks now and I can file. Starting to put together everything now. We're hoping for a one week approval...think that's too much to ask for??? laughing.gif

how are you ladies???

hi ladies...

not much news on my end yet: got the phonecall (which i missed) from IEP (international exchange program/sponsorship agency) on friday. they're sending out the first set of forms for me to fill out, which should be here tomorrow, and then i'll have an 'interview' - this isn't for the visa, just the agency, and i'm really hoping i don't have to fly to auckland for it, because that'll mean THREE trips i have to make up there.

can't remember if i mentioned this earlier, but the SEVI fee that was 'yet to be advised' on the IEP website (which was freaking me out because i had no idea if it would be $50 or $500), is only $35, so that was quite a relief.

still haven't spoken to the parents... will probably do that later today, after i've finished work... blink.gif

Hi Kim

Thanks for your email - I didn't realise that NZ's didn't need to get the police clearance! Good to know, I guess one less thing to worry about right!

Hello all,

Welcome to the new additions!

Things are pretty quiet here for me, visa wise. Back in the waiting game again. This time waiting till we can get some things sent in to NVC.

Good to hear that progress has started for you Ruby.
