I am in a situation here, and I hope for some input.

My Green Card Expired 8 Feb 08. I filed the I-751 15. Jan. I got it back last week because I hadn't used the newest form. The only difference in the forms was a Barcode on the bottom of the page. I just sent it back with the new form, and my mail receipt shows they got it yesterday.

Now for the Grand Finale, I lost my expired Green Card today.

So, now I am without any legal papers, and not even a receipt that I have filed I-751.

The problem I have now is that I am going to Mexico for work leaving at 29 this month. If I don't go there I will pretty much loose my job.

What do I do now? Am I going to try to get a new expired 'Green Card'? Or hope to get the letter from I-751? (does the letter replace the green card or are they suppose to complement each other?)

Can I make an info pass appointment and get a stamp in my passport? and does this work without my green card to get back into the country?

Or shall I just go to mexico, report my card lost to the embassy while I am down there and hope they let me back into USA?

You will need the I-751 NOA1 letter to show extended LPR status to continue working and to re-enter the USA.

I would also do an info-pass appointment and ask if all that is needed is the I-751 NOA1 letter to show status, and perhaps get an I-551 stamp in passport to make passport a temp green-card.

I doubt that filing I-90 will replace an expired green-card. I would be looking everywhere for the expired card.

A good solution would be to make infopass. Take your NOA and photo ID (D/L) and have your passport stamped with the I-551. This stamp is the equivalent of the greencard, which is the "Form I-551" after all.
With the I-551 stamped on your passport and your NOA extending your GC for 1 year you should not have troubles in entering back to the US, except for a few more questions and perhaps being put aside for further information about your legal status. But they'll set you free as soon as they see you are ok and read your NOA extending your GC for 1 year, a proof you've already applied for I-751.
At infopass, as well, you have to ask for accurate information about the hassles and inconvenience about traveling abroad without the plastic.

Don't count on it because NSC (where I believe you applied to) is arguably the slowest center in the country. Barring some divine intervention, it's very highly unlikely that you will hear back from them so soon. But then again, this is an agency that operates very erratically and anything is possible.

Correct, getting an I-551 stamp in passport should take care of this situation.
