I have been in Egypt since mid December 2007 on my Advanced Parole until my Resident Permenant Card was approved today which I should receive within the next 3 weeks. Would my travel be affected by my Advanced Parole time? Or does it count as a new period from the day I have my Resident Permenant Card approved? Is it true that I have upto 6 months of being outside the USA in the first 2 years or is it up to 6 months each / per year?

Any suggestions on this one would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

You can be absent from the US for up to one year without losing resident status. Up to two years if you apply for and receive a reentry permit, but no longer than that. However, the reentry permit won't preserve your residence for naturalization purposes. That has to be applied for separately. In any event, you definitely need to be back prior to the expiration on the AP. Here is the link for a Returning Resident Alient at the Department of State government site.
