OK, I sent Anh a ring sizer from BlueNile.com and she sized her finger at 5.5 but I gotta say that sounds wrong. My mother is a 6 and my sister a 5.5 and they have bigger hands than my fiancee. I don't think Anh did it correctly (she's 5' 3" tall and weighs less than 110 pounds).

So is there a way she can get her finger properly sized in Ho Chi Minh City? Vietnamese sizes are different than American sizes so I need an American size because I have a ring picked out and do not want to risk taking a ring that is too big because then what? Resize in HCMC? NO WAY! I actually know someone who's diamond was switched when doing this. sad.gif

Don't know if you will see this in time

Buy one and send it to her.

I leave May 11 for Vietnam, so I think this won't work. sad.gif

My wife is 5-3 and 110 and she wears a size 5 1/2. She can wear a 6 without it falling off, but it's a little loose.

Claudeth is 4'8" and weights about 90 pounds and her ring size is a 5

Matt...If you're worried Anh did it wrong, is there any way for you to watch her do it, say, on a webcam or something along those lines??

Just a thought....

Oh, and if you get her size in HCMC (metric) it's simple enough to convert it to American measurements. A search of google will get you the needed info....

She will try again tonight on the webcam for me. I just want to be absolutely sure since the ring I have in mind has to be resized and if I do it once then it needs to be right.

We actually had Claudeth's resized twice. We did it once in the Philippines and it was too loose so had it done again at the store I bought it from when she got here. Good luck good.gif

Well I am 5 3' also but I am alot heavier then your fiance, I weigh about 160 and my ring size is a 5 1/2...I have small hands and feet for my weight...I know this sounds crazy but sometimes you can go by shoe size, I wear size 6 shoe and 5 1/2 ring size. So a 5 1/2 might be right for her??

Incidentally,

An average Vietnamese woman's fingers are going to be thinner than an average American woman's fingers. This goes the same for Vietnamese women in Vietnam vs Vietnamese women living in the US- particularly if the Vietnamese woman living in the US lives with a man and his children who do not like to eat pho noodles every night for dinner, and she finds out that she actually likes US grade A beef and mashed potatoes.

In otherwords- the size may uh, change.

I tried sizing myself from one of those online places too and it was disasterous. I did it just how it says in the guide and when I gave my husband the size he was like..... unsure.gif are you sure love?.... I said YES i did it right!!!! so he bought my ring that size.... funny thing was that it was way off and my ring was WAY too big... we did have it resized in Egypt but it still didn't fit correctly... my fingers swell sometimes so I kept it a little too big and bought a pack of Ring Snuggies when I got back to the states. You can get a pack of 3 or 4 at Claire's Boutique (in any mall in the US) for around $3.50. I would suggest you just get the size she told you (in case she's right) and take a pack of those Ring Snuggies with you (in case she's not right tongue.gif ) for a temporary fix until she gets to America and you can then have it fixed here. They're clear soft plastic ... you can't really see them when she's wearing it and they're not uncomfortable. They won't damage the ring and it just snaps on the band on the underside of her finger.

I bought a set of ring sizers off of eBay and if they get here on time I will send them by air to Vietnam in hopes that she can get her finger properly sized for me before I leave. I will have the ring on Tuesday and would have until May 9 to get it done.

By the way, if you want to see the diamond, here it is...

Center stone is 1.07 carat, F color and VS1 clarity. Basically, a very good diamond that is not perfect, but well above average. If it appraises at what it should, then I got myself a bargain that is insane. If not, then I get a full refund (these people have an exceptional rep).

Yes, clearly I have purchased a full bore engagement ring, something I said I could not afford. But I found a way to do it.

Nice!!! How long do you plan to stay in VN? I plan to visit VN at the end of May. Maybe we can meet up. Are you sure you want to give her the diamond ring in VN? I heard there are a lot of people stealing things in Saigon. They do it even in broad daylight. Just make sure she keeps the ring in a safe place after the engagement.
Matt_Stevens
Yes, I am VERY nervous about that. I have even thought about bringing it back with me to be safe. But how do I tell her that? Touchy subject.

I will be there from May 12 to 26.

I would buy her a ring in Vietnam and let her pick it out. I find sometimes that good taste in America is no big deal in VN? (another mind bender?) Mind you, a diamond ring should go over well regardless.

KvTran: funny you say crime: My wife had her necklace ripped off her neck while she was driving down Le Duan Street (same as USA consulate) between the two parks near independence palace/Nam Ky Khoi Nghia St. I couldn't believe it?

Yeah, I gave my fiance a necklace last year. She still has it because she make sure she keeps her hand on it or wear shirts to cover it whenever she drives. They will try at anything to take things. It's ok if they take the necklace but just don't hurt anyone.
Matt_Stevens
I have already made the purchase. granted, I could return it, but I love the ring and think she will be blown away.

1.07 carat for the center stone and F clarity. So it needs to be nice. biggrin.gif

If your fiancee can buy a not expensive ring in her country that is a perfect size for her and sent it to you by a fast courier. I guess that will help you a lot out of stress about what is a perfect size of her ring. My fiance (now my husband) bought me a really expensive ring and he had problem the same as you. What I did was I bought a ring (my perfect size) in Hong Kong and sent it to him by UPS courier.

Kim is 5'3, 100lbs, ring size 5. Skinny longy fingers are tough to buy ring. Finally got size 5 setting. Still too loose, the ring turns too much.
So, no big deal, just make sure when you are in VN, ask the jeweler to keep in mind, you have the Serial# on the Diamond, so they won't do anything thing with it... Because after you have the ring resize, just ask them to give you the loops to read the serial number on the diamond. No worry about it man!

Size 5. is my vote!
Matt_Stevens
Yes, I am going with size 5. I had her measure one more time and she says she thinks 5 is right.

Fingers crossed!

Yes, for real smile.gif

I bought a diamond in the states took it to Ho Ch iMinh in my back pack no problems.
Hong took us to a jewerly store and bought the ring so there was no issues with the size.
I also had a ring given to me by her young sister,we went to the store and was able to go to the back of the store to watch the gentleman resize it to fit my finger.

TOTAL COST .80 cents WOW this would neved happen in the states.

Anyone else going to Vietnam I can vouch for a friendly hotel, and trustworthy staff.
