If you want satellite, the only option for arabic is Dish Network. Other options are internet tv OR that dish that gets you all the free to air channels but you won't get most of the good ones on that.

Yep, Dish Network. I hope you have two TVs at home. If not, do yourself a favor and get a second. I don't have this problem with Moh but I did with my ex...he took over the TV. If you don't want to be bored out of your mind either get another TV or stock up on books.

I think I got lucky, my hubby watches everything with me. Even those TLC and WE tv shows, like baby story and bridezillas, LOL. But we TIVO almost everything and watch it when we want. In the beginning I got 2 tv's for this reason but we don't even use the 2nd one at all.

My current husband watches all my FoodNetwork, TLC, TravelChannel, etc. shows. My ex did not. We usually were in separate areas of the house when he was home because of the satellite. Hmmm maybe that's why he's my ex. biggrin.gif

We do not have Arabic satellite at home currently. We have Xbox Live. Apparently that's more entertaining. biggrin.gif

I don't have tivo but I do have dvr which I think is the same thing and it's gotten so bad that I won't watch anything live anymore because I can't stand not being able to fast foward through the commercials!
Virtual wife
I have the Dish Network Arabic channels and 3 dual HD DVRs. I hardly watch live tv anymore either. Once you get DVR, you can't go back. good.gif

We have Dish Network and hubby loves all his arabic channels. I kinda enjoy them too!

Yesssssss laughing.gif me tooooooo!! Sometimes, if i really want to watch it around the same time, i pause it and go take a bath and make coffee, and then i sit and watch, so i can fast forward through commercials!

There's one commercial that really drives me nuts and if i'm watching something live and that commercial pops up , i pause it just to fast forward it laughing.gif that cracks the kids up everytime it would happen..... it's that Oxiclean man that seems to scream at you, who also does the orange glo anddddddd the one I detest the most: KABOOOOOOM wacko.gif

I know Dish Network has lots of Arabic Channels. Now a days, some cable companies are also offering at least one Arabic Channel. I've noticed most of the cable are offering Art America. I don't have any, since I don't speak Arabic, but I know Art America is a very popular one among Arabic Speaking people.

I have ART. Not sure if hubby will like it though. I'll let you all know when he gets here!

ART is ok, they mostly play movies and stuff. MBC is my favorite channel. Bridget, I'm guessing your husband may want some of the Egyptian channels that Dish Network offers like Nile and ESC-1.

we'll see. I'm not doing anything till he gets here but each time I was with him he loved watching Law and Order so maybe he won't even want arabic tv at all. He is a soccer addict though so time will tell.
Jenn!
Any Arabic channels we get online for free (either he watches on the PC or hooks up to the TV). Maybe when we move we'll consider getting a dish, but for now our building doesn't allow it.

I just got a 19 inch monitor for my computer a couple of weeks ago so he should be happy to watch it online. smile.gif

My husband watches a great deal of American TV but I think he just finds comfort in knowing that we have the arabic channels. We do watch, actually I do more than he does and when his parents were here for 4 months that is all they watched besides Animal Planet. I have the highest package and it costs me about $40 a month and then I opted to add the music channels for another $7 per month. I pay about $120 a month for 200 channels, Arabic, Showtime, HBO, and Cinnemax. I also have a dual reciever with DVR's. I think I'm getting a good deal.

Hi all,
i'm just reviving an old thread on how to get Arabic channels on the TV.

Those of you that have "Dish Network" is that like Direct TV? i'm in New York and i'm about to hook up cable & internet service, just wondering what i should pick to get some Arabic.

Also, do any of you have Optimum Online? Do they have an Arabic add-on, do you know?

Thanks!! good.gif

Alhamdulillah
Anyone know which channels dish network moved the arabic stations to?
S and S
I used to have the arabic channels in the last place I lived, but Dish Network made me put up another satellite to get those channels. I didn't feel like putting another satellite up here so I don't have the arabic channels. I keep debating what to do when my husband comes and I miss watching the arabic channels myself. Arabic news stations have a different twist on the news that I find interesting.
Rocketta
I'll definitely try to find some Arabic channels for my husband when he gets here but NO ONE controls my remote but me so I'm not worried about that. laughing.gif

No one knows where the new Arabic channels are on Dish network? unsure.gif
AlHayatZween
i don't even know what the Dish Network is, maybe it is a west coast thing? i am in New York.

i am wondering if anyone on the east coast has the Arabic channels listed on the Direct TV program? they don't look very good to me... no Al Jazeera, which is the one we would want, along with the soaps.

do most of you watch online? is that how you are getting Arabic tv?

interested in knowing...

thanks!!

No, I'm on the east coast! NC.... I didn't know Direct TV even had Arabic channels... must be something new but after looking at their line up it doesn't seem very impressive. Dish Networks Arabic line up is much better but they moved all the channels this year and I don't have a clue where they are.... maybe they canceled them. unsure.gif
bridget
Well hubby does like ART but wishes it were more than just one channel. I'd love to switch over to satellite but we're getting a huge bargain by bundling with verizon fios so we'll stay with what we have until the price goes up.

Yes, as far as i can tell... (i'm looking at cable providers now in hopes of moving into a new apartment, inchallah) as far as i can tell, Direct TV has 4 Arabic channels, which you pay extra for... but they are crap channels. nothing i've ever heard of, and no news... it is mostly like Arabic Music TV...

maybe i will see if they have Dish Network in NYC?
