Hello all
I was reading lootsa posts and Melyssa's post about getting her AP to go back to Canada
we are in the midst of AOS for my wife right now. i wanted to do get her an AP so she can go back home to canada occasionally (christmas, visit her family so fourth) our laywer has told us that unless its an emergency it is best to not do an AP.
but going on what i see in the forums , lotsa people get AP just to visit family during i-485
so i had a few questions for the group if you have any thoughts
1. do we need to put specific dates and reasons for travel on i-131?
2. if our lawyer advises against filing can we file it simply on our own?
3. according to the fees the i-131 is included with EAD and i-485 for $1010, but if we file the i-131 now since we filed i-485 allready do we owe the fee?

"To be determined" goes under "date". Your reason for travel is to "visit family" or "required in the event of an emergency".
2. if our lawyer advises against filing can we file it simply on our own?
Preferable to do on your own to cut out the middle-man. Can't believe your lawyer advises against this. Very uninformed.
3. according to the fees the i-131 is included with EAD and i-485 for $1010, but if we file the i-131 now since we filed i-485 allready do we owe the fee?
Someone else can confirm but I believe all you have to do is provide a copy of your receipt from your initial filing fee.

I can't believe your lawyer gave you this advice. I wouldn't pay this lawyer anymore and do any further correspondence on your own (just MO).
If you paid $1010 for your AOS, you do not owe any fees for AP or EAD.

yeah the law office is worrying me too. not sure if cutting contact complicates things or not. it is not the first time they told us something that got me thinking "HUH?"
