Hi all,

a question for my fellow Germans with small kids:

does anybody know if there's a way to get the German "Elterngeld" after activating the K1 visa and giving birth in the US ?

Has anybody of my fellow Germans been there/done that?

Any ideas, suggestions?? It would be a shame to lose that money after being employed for such a long time and having contributed to the system....

Thanks a lot,

If you are living int he US then nope, you have no right to get it.

In your case giving up your 'Wohnsitz' means giving up that money.
You have no legal right to claim it because you are leaving the country voluntarily to live somewhere else (and are not send there by an employer for example).
Check www.elterngeld.net for detailed info.
