I am throwing another question out there...

My fiance has a class reunion scheduled in Bangkok in April. If he comes into the US on his K-1 after his interview (which should be sometime in March), can we travel to Bangkok together in April without an Advance Parole? Is the Advance Parole required only after the marriage or are we free to travel before we get married?

Any help would be appreciated.

You cannot travel out of the US without advance parole or a green card after entering the US on a K-1. If you do, you will not be able to re-enter, nor can you adjust from that K-1 - you will have to start over again, from the beginning!

Still seems very confusing because how would we have time to fill out an AP when we don't even know when he'll be here for sure?

Our other option is for him to stay in the UK until the reunion and we could meet there and then he can come in on his K-1. What do you think?

Thanks

You would be better off doing the latter - they're not kidding when they say you can't get back in.

That's exactly what I would do. If there is an engagement to attend after getting the visa, makes logical sense to stay, and enter later (depending on the duration, marriage, when AP could be applied for and when you might likely receive it).

Would it make sense also that he come in March and use his VWP, fly to Bangkok and then enter on the K-1. Will that work as well?

If he has the K-1 in his passport then it is unlikely that he will be able to enter without activating the visa.

Probably not if he has an approved unused K1.

Once the K1 holder enter into US, can't leave the country. It doesn't matter if you used the K1 visa or not unless you have the Advance Parole.
