why not just make them invis vs. closing a whole thread?

so people can have fun reading the thread even though they can't post anymore.

I think we came to a decision a while back where we decided that unless a seriously abhorrent comment was made that we would just lock a topic. The invisibilising is used by the mods to some extent still, but we found that members preferred a lock rather than seeing the posts disappearing. Hence we tend to go down this route, preferentially.

If a topic is locked you are more than welcome to start a fresh one, though, TOS violation free of course.

My opinion: Threads deemed "out of line" should come with a content warning. "Read at your own risk, thread may contain graphic descriptive content. Reader discretion advised" rather than an evil moderator shutting it down because someone wrote a shamefully naughty word or, gasp, a description act.

I've been seeing a lot of dissapearing threads lately (Including Lisa's thread about the end of her journey). Has there been any changes to the lock/ make invisible criteria?
