How long does the whole process of becoming an American citizen usually take? Let's say i turn in my papers this week, how long until i get called for the interview? And after that, how long until i have my passport in my hands?
thanks
i live in California if that helps..

If you read USCIS webpage, they said it'll take 16-18 months now.
I went to a naturalization seminar last sat and people from USCIS said don't expect you'll be able to vote in November if you submit the paper now. Some attorneys also said USCIS will be processing only July's application in the next 6-7 months (due to the huge number of apps they got in last July)
I'd say at least 1 year from now if you're in California (does not include passport application)
