The search thing never seems to work for me anymore sad.gif

What can I expect at the border when I go visit my home country? I received two exact copies of the AP thing... so I guess I am supposed to show them both? I think I read somewhere that they might try to take one but aren't supposed to? Hopefully someone can clarify this for me...

Also, there is something about them taking out the I-94 and putting a new one??? Or am I confused...

Hello,
my understanding is that they will issue you with a new I-94. I was also advised to take a copy of the wedding/marriage certificate as it will show the name change.
Good Luck
YuAndDan
Yes the I-94 will be taken when you depart the country, it is a departure record, when you re-enter the USA you will need to get a new one.

Bring an extra photo copy of the AP document, to give the POE officer if they want to keep a copy.

You present the AP doc to US POE officer for re-entry to the USA.

HI Melyssa,

I just crossed at Lewiston last week taking my son to toronto airport. I had with me my Passport, 2 copies of AP, original AOS NOA1 and copy of our marriage certificate. On crossing into Canada, officer just looked at my documents and passport. Coming back into the states, they stamped my AP took out my old I-194 and gave me a new one.

I got both copies back and i asked if i needed to go through same procedure every visit... she told me YES,, until my AOS is approved i have to go through their system. At least when i get GC i wont have to get out the car..lol...

Enjoy your trip, you should have no problem... hope this helps

Do not do what I have highlighted above -- I had my original two copies of the AP, and then I colour photocopied it as well -- the officer was NOT pleased to see that I had done that.

You will be fine smile.gif

I'm assuming you're going by land so.....

Since you're Canadian, the Canadian side won't ask for your documents. Coming back into the States you will hand the officer your passport and your AP documents. You will then be given a chit and directed to secondary processing. (They will keep your passport and AP documents.) The officer in the parking lot will check your chit, then tell you to go inside. Have a seat and wait for your name to be called. Once your name is called they will stamp your AP, remove the I-94 from your passport and replace it with a new I-94 which will expire on the same date as your AP. They will hand you back your passport and one AP, and they will keep the other AP. You are then free to leave. The officer in the parking lot will want your chit back before he/she allows you to return to your car.

You will repeat the same process each time you use your AP, however, they will not need to replace the I-94 because it is still valid.

Have a great visit!!!

Thanks Krikit! Yes, we are planning to travel by land. There's one thing I'm still confused by - they take one copy of AP? What about the rest of the times we go to Canada, and especially if we go at a different POE? (Since if they take one copy the rest of the times I will only have one copy of the AP - is it that they wouldn't need to take it anymore because I'd have the valid I-94?)

They just restamp the remaining AP and the passport with a new re-entry date, then hand it all back to you. good.gif

is this true for K3 visa holders too? I know K3s don't need AP but if I go back, will they take the old I-94 and then reissue an I-94 when I return?

Yu and Dan's post does not apply to Canadian travellers. (And taking a photocopy of the AP doc does not apply at all.) Expired I-94's are removed from your passport when you re-enter the US, and a new one is issued. I am unfamiliar with the process for K-3's so, hopefully, someone will come along to clarify.

FYI,
The first time I used my AP in January, of course, I was sent in to the office for processing (POE at Detroit). The second time I crossed back to to the U.S. (just yesterday), the officer in the booth looked over my AP, I-94, Passport and then sent me on my way without getting out of the car, without going in to the office.

NICE one!!!!! I had that happen once. But that's because the officer never noticed my visa in my passport and I hadn't handed her my AP documents. The worst crossing was when I was held up for so long that I missed my flight. mad.gif Yay for normal crossings!
