Full Version: How many luggage for petite filipina leaving PI???
Im sorry to ask this but Im just curious, How many pieces of bags/luggage are needed by a petite filipina who will be migrating to US or other country? Im sure you wont leave the country without your bare essentials like shoes, clothes and others because you will have difficulty finding your size like a size 4 or 5 heeled shoes (like mine ) . And also , is locally made, hardside luggage a good choice? Have a blessed day/night to all vj members

I would suggest to have as much as you can possibly carry. Remember though, there is a weight limit on outbound flights from Manila. I think it is 7 kilos for carry-on and 40 kilos for check bags. I had two (2) 29 inch duffle bags full of Mercy's personal items plus my clothes that I packed for my visit and the interview. I also had a leather bag carry on. I wasn't charged extra for any of this (Thank God) cause I know I would have been over the 40 kilos checked luggage requirement. Anyway, as long as she can have a carry on with several changes of clothes and personal items and then check bags that she would not like to carry thru changing planes, then this is what I would suggest. If you do check them, you should have no problems with getting them to your destination. I hope this helps. It's hard to carry alot of heavy bags when your trying to make a connecting flight in a big terminal like Tokyo. Best wishes.

You also need to think about your connecting flight in the USA (if any). They have different weight requirement as compared to international flight. I know Southwest won't take anything more than 75 pounds.

Bring as much as the number of kilos allowed by the airline. I had a set of 1 large and 1 medium luggages and my carry ons consisted of one shoulder bag and the box containing my wedding dress . Happy Trip!!
it always depends on you. i carried only one check-in luggage and one hand carry. my luggage wasnt that too big knowing my husband and i talk about not bringing so much stuff in the US (just what i wana bring most) and that we'll just have to buy clothes here (to find out petite sizes are hard to find lol)... our purpose then was that since it was my first time to travel that far, he wouldnt want me to get crazy finding and checking luggages... basic stuff that you could at least wear for the first 2-3 months is good enough then you can adjust buying here or having a new set of trend in your closet lol... good luck to her and happy trip!
Check your airline's webpage. If you are flying from another location in the PI to connect to your international flight to the US, international baggage rules will probably apply. United allows us to each have 2 bags of up to 32 kilos and a carry on plus another piece like purse or laptop. Take all your shoes and jeans that are in good shape. The american woman's bottom is shaped different than asians and it may take you a while to find a brand where you like the fit.

This is not always true if the flight and all connecting flights were purchased through the Philippine carrier. At least in my case.
When I traveled to the Philippines with my fiancee's aunt and cousins we purchased our tickets through a travel agent in Chinatown. He made the purchases through PAL who purchased our tickets from AA as well. When I spoke with the AA contacts they informed me that, because the tickets were purchased by from them by PAL, that PAL's baggage rules would apply.
Watch out for carryon weight too. The last time a flew PAL they were weighing carryons (though not consistently) and they made me take some stuff out of my single carryon bag.

I just brought some of my favorite clothes and like what u said some shoes and fil flops..Hehehehe..
I had a big suit case that fit all of them..One hand carry where I put my immigration stuff and a purse..
Just a piece of advice..Dont buy those very expensive luggages since these airport people will just throw them in and out of the plane and broke it.. Well, that was just base on me and my husband's experience..lol

Make your trip light and comfortable, for carry on I only brought my purse with the documents as they will open it in the airport. For check in it depends on the airline limit. Like Continental Airline you can have 2 check in baggage (32kilos each allowed). If you intend to use your baggage once only it's fine to get a local one.
You are right, im petite too and so hard for me to find my size here. I use to go to junior section but still can't find the right style and size. Additionally, don't worry if you have many connecting flights since you wont pick up your luggage every lay over. In my case, I had 4 stopover (YES! 4 coz the airline change my flight at the moment I was in the airport checking in). I only seen my baggage in Hawaii to clear for immigration, after that in my Final destination.
