My fiancee and I would really like for her mother (and maybe her brother and niece) to come to the US for the wedding. Her mother doesn't yet have a tourist visa for the US. Since our fiancee visa is in process, do you think there's a high likelihood they would refuse her mother's visa on the suspicion that she would come and not leave? Geiza said that the Brazilian consulate has been refusing people tourist visas because they're "too old" (this happened to our photographer for the Brazilian non-legal wedding party who was planning to visit the US for vacation and was told because she was 35 she was too old for a visa). I've seen people who originated from other countries fly their whole families in. If it's clear that her mother is coming just for our wedding and she owns property in Brazil and plans to return after the wedding, do you think they will grant her request? I especially would like thoughts from people with experience with the Brazilian consulates.
Geiza is worried that if they deny her mother's request then her mother will never want to visit us. wacko.gif

This is a common question, many can and do get tourist visas with out problems, the applicant needs to demonstrate connections back home.

Parents apply for the visa at the consulate by filing DS-156 and paying $131 fee.

Also are you applying for a turist visa from Canada or to Canada. Why post this to the Canada forum?

Should it not be posted to: Bringing family members of Permanent Residents to America http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showforum=112

I don't think it matters your age in Brazil - but rather how much $$$ you have and your ties to the country. I know a woman who just came to visit her niece (Brazilians) and she was even given a visa for 6 months. I don't know her age but she's probably in her 60's and she's retired.
