RSA
Hi everyone,

I finally got the interview date finalized -6th March. This I came to know after e-mail'ing to them. Intially I mailed on 24th but got no response. Then I went through forum and found the recommendation by ELW. Then mailed yesterday morning at 6AM (IST), this time with MDR number and request for interview date in the subject. I got the response by evening! What a relief dancin5hr.gif Yet to receive the packet 4 but they said it will be done so next week.

This joy was shortlived when it finally sank to me about the things to be taken care of in days to come. Here is the final checklist I came up.

1) Submit the following to VFS
a) A completed Form DS-230 (part I only) Biographic Data form.
cool.gif Two completed DS-156 (non-immigrant visa application) forms, and one completed of DS-156K (unsigned)
c) Two nonimmigrant visa photos (two inches/50 X 50 mm square, showing full face, against a light background)
d) A copy of your official birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and copy of parent's affidavit
e) copy of A passport (old & new) valid for at least six months from the date of the interview.
f) copy of PCC - police and passport
g) evidence of support (notarized I134) with supporting docs - copy
(job letter, pay stubs, W-2, Form 1040, naturalization, bank statements) - all copies
h) copy of divorce decree
i) evidence of relationship (photos, mails, itinerary, phone log)

2) pay 365/- to VFS

3) get medical done at Chennai (lister lab and then any of panel doctors) one week before interview date

4) make a copy of the medicals signed by the panel doctor

5) for Interview on 6th
a) take all the originals alongwith medicals
cool.gif DD for 131$ drawn on HSBC in favour of "American Consulate General, Chennai." (1 USD = 40 Rs)
c) unsigned letter of intent

If I am missing anything, please let me know.

This is so funny... I went thru the same emotional roller coaster you did. But I have even less time, we submitted packet 3 last Thursday and were told to wait several weeks for aninterviews.. one of our fellow Vjers told my fiance that she got her interview date, so I called NVC directly(Delhi was closed) and they confirmed FEb 21 date.. yikes!!! so I am totally stressed out getting everything together by next week. And I am scared.. I am getting a ticket so I can be there for the interview as well...

quick questions:

Why do you need an unsigned letter of intent?

for aff of support, will just 2006 1040 return work or I have to get 2007 ready too?
Manish+Manya
Hey RSA,

Luckily we got our interview scheduled on 20th Feb. I had submitted Packet3 contents on 24th Jan. I was eagerly waiting for the interview date and now when I have got it, it feels like time is flying and am just crawling wacko.gif

My concerns are -

Packet 4 says ...

1) ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE PRESENTED AT YOUR NEAREST VFS OFFICE (SEE ATTACHED SHEET) NO EARLIER THAN FIFTEEN (15) WORKING DAYS AND NO LESS THAN TEN (10) DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR INTERVIEW. FAILURE TO SUBMIT YOUR DOCUMENTS BY TEN WORKING DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF YOUR INTERVIEW DATE.

This means that I will have to submit my docs between 05th Feb - 10th Feb. I have just a weeks time to collect everything. ohmy.gif

2) I have the following docs ready.
- Passport
- Photos
- Application Form DS156
- Affidavit of Birth signed by 1st class magistrate
- Proof of relationship

3) Police Report - Am really concerned about this.
- I have the Clearance Certificate from Passport office.
- I applied for Police Clearance Certificate (Local Station) some 3 weeks back and I havnt received it yet. crying.gif What if I wont receive it before 10th Feb?
PCC process has changed recently. Now it takes a bit longer than it used to earlier.
Good that we knew about getting PCC in advance :-)

4) Affidavit of Support - My Fiance is collecting all the docs to get I-134 notarised. He wont be in US from 3rd till 16th Feb so he has to get everything done before he leaves. Am just hoping to get everything properly on time.

I havnt received Packet4 yet. But I got this information through mail from consulate and am asked to collect duplicate copy of Packet4 from the counter personally if I havnt received it yet. I will be going to the consulate after 2 hrs. Praying to get everything streamlined on time.

I just called DOS today and they told me my interview is on Feb 27, 2008.... Delhi emabssay never sent me any packet four till today and they never answered my emails.

Wow they are giving faster interviews but are falling behind on the paperwork. My fiance is going to the embassy tomorrow to get Packet 4, the interview letter and to confirm the date again.

RSA
Best of lucks for all of you people.

Manya,
Police Clearance Certificate is important. You need to follow them up. Luckily for me this process is streamlined in Hyderabad. I had to go to the District Police Office and contact the Special Branch (Intelligence) there. They are the ones who look into these issues. I got mine within 10 days.

letter of intent is one of the requirements which Chennai embassy has put in. I don't think you have that for Delhi or Mumbai.

For Affidavit of Support, 2006 1040 would do.

Both of you can type a Letter of Intent on your own, explain how much you like each other and your intentions of getting married. Explain your fmaily members approval as well (if they approve only).

Regarding your going to the interview I guess is a good thing. Now that your congressman is also aware of your case, make him aware of your going to the visa interview to support your fiancee.

Keep us posted and Wish you good luck man!!!

Latest progress is that today I went to get my MMR shots (1st dose) at Institute of Preventive Medicine at Narayanaguda, Hyderabad. Working hours are 10:30 to 16:30 with 13:00 to 14:00 as lunch break. We have to make arrangnements for Vaccine. I purchased it from a shop just outside the facility. It costed Rs.93/- (inclusive of syringe). Institute charged Rs.50/- for getting the vaccine done. They said to come back next week for Tetanus and maintain a week gap for every further vaccinations.
ELW
I saw this thread late but anyway, RSA, all looks good to me, you are very thorough! good.gif

cjindia, congrats on your interview date this month! kicking.gif Don't worry no need for the 2007 tax returns, they understand it takes time to file (if you do happen to get them done, of course you can bring them.)

Best of luck to you too, Manish+Manya! yes.gif As for your concerns, if you are missing any evidence, you can always submit it at the interview itself. At least you have the bulk of the paperwork to give at the VFS office. If you don't have birth certificate (just birth affidavit), it is helpful to include either caste certificate or 10th class certificate, or anything with the father's name, date of birth and name. That's what we did. Passport PCC I think is most important, hopefully they will not ask for the local one if you haven't received it yet. If they do ask, just show evidence of your PCC request and explain the situation. Of course as RSA said, follow up NOW about the local PCC and ask where it is!

Cuteprince, best of luck for your interview in Feb too! good.gif
RSA
Yesterday finished my second shot of vaccination - Diptheria & Tetanus. Cost Rs.14 (inclusive of syringe) Now I guess all left is 2nd dosage for MMR.

I got VISA!!!!! It was on 6th March. I went in at 8:30 AM First my Interview later was taken over by one guy and given to the IV unit counter. The person at counter called me after some time and then ran through my application and all the documents. He then said that he didn't accept my date of birth affidavit and asked me to produce some other secondary proof. Luckily I had my driving license original but it was at Hotel room. I requested the gentlemen and he gave me a re-entry slip. I then rushed to my hotel room, got the driving license, came back to consulate IV unit and handed over it to him. After half-an hour came the turn for taking fingerprints. Then after two hours an young american lady took the interview. She asked the following questions after taking an oath of truthfulness:

1) how I met my fiancee.
2) what's my brother doing in US
3) my occupation and that of my fiancee
4) dates of my first marriage and divorce... and that of my fiancee
5) how many kids do I have and so do my fiancee from first marriage
6) what's their age
7) when did my fiancee come to India
8) did we have any engagement like function
9) where I am presently working
10) why don't I move to US by requesting my company (MNC)
11) why do I want to get married in US
12) why did I do MCA after my MA
13) did my family and their family approve of this relation
14) does my fiancee's kid know me
15) why didn't my fiancee visit India in last five years
16) when did our relation start and when did it take a serious turn
17) will I marry once I am in US

Then she said that the visa is approved and I should be getting the passport soon. I requested for collection at VFS by day's end but she refused saying that the policy is not to give the passport on the day of interview. She requested me to contact VFS on when I will get the passport. Also she gave some briefing on what I can do and I cann't in US on this visa.

Of the total of ten IV applications (2 each of IR/CR, K1, K3 etc.) 5 received green slip that day and five got through!!!!! I was the last but one to go. I finally came out by 13:30 HRS

I am glad that it is over. People going through Chennai K1 have to remember
1) Take your 10th class marksheet or Inter marksheet as secondary proof of date of birth (original and photocopy)
2) You won't be getting the passport on the day of interview
3) X-Ray is not required
4) you cannot take waterbottle or Cell phones inside

Hi all,

I am finally in US!!! I arrived here on 14th. The journey details is as follows:

At Hyderabad Airport I was asked to fill Immigration/Customs form. Then the Immigration/Customs guys verified my ticket, my passport and my VISA. The guy who did it wasn't aware of K1 visa. So he cosulted the officer in charge there. Then I was through.

The POE Chicago was also smooth. I already filled the I-94 and Customs form in flight itself. Then I submitted I-94 to the Immigration guy at Chicago. I was asked only one question "Why am I here in US?" to which I replied that I am on K1. Then he opened the documents did some checking. Then took my finger prints and said "thanks. You are done".

Then I collected by baggage and then went for Customs check where I handed over the Customs form. Then straight to my connecting flight to Salt Lake!!!

Overall it was smooth experience.

Thanks
mgk
Congratulations RSA!!!

Heyaaa RSA,

I can't tell u how glad I am to have found you.
I have been looking through the whole of the forum just to find someone from hyderabad.

I have applied for a K1 visa.
Got NVC on April 7th..

My questions -
1.What all forms do you need to submit to obtain a clearance certificate from commissioner's office ?

2.Can my mother do it for me,since I am currently not in India. Is it very straightforward as you say,
do we need to use influence/bribes?

3.How did you do the PCC frrom the passport office?Did you work through an agent. How long did it take.

4.Is there a list of vaccinations that i need to take?

PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ answer these questions. You are the only one from Hyderabad that i kow off.

Talk to the consulate immediately. You don't have much time for documentation and Packet 4 is absolute must for information.

My questions -
1.What all forms do you need to submit to obtain a clearance certificate from commissioner's office ?

I suggest contact the District Commissioner's office (old city) and go straight to Special branch (contact between 15:00 to 16:00 hrs Mon-Fri). They will give the latest requirements. What they asked from me were:
a= Challan for Rs.500/- paid through e-seva (make a photocopy of the challan)
b= application form for PCC (given by them)
c= clear xerox of passport all pages
d= residential proof
e= purpose of PCC (give a copy of Packet 4)
f= two affidavits of two serving government servants on Rs.10/- stamp paper - signed and notarized. The template will be given by the office
g= 6 passport size photos - 4 pasted on app and 2 attached separately
THEY WILL TAKE ATLEAST TWO WEEKS FOR PROCESSING

2.Can my mother do it for me,since I am currently not in India. Is it very straightforward as you say,
do we need to use influence/bribes?

As far as I remember, they said that I should submit it in person. If you want an exemption, talk to them. They are straightforward and friendly. I didn't give any bribe to get it done because it is against my principles.

3.How did you do the PCC frrom the passport office?Did you work through an agent. How long did it take.

I filled their application for PCC and went to Passport office, got the appointment slot and then handed-over the application to them with required supporting docs. THey charge Rs.300 for it. Within a week you have to go back at the given time to collect the PCC. I didn't go through any agent since I believe in doing work myself.

4.Is there a list of vaccinations that i need to take?

Though not required for K1, yet because it is cheap in India, take the following at Institute of Preventive Medicine.
1. MMR dose 1
2. TD dose 1
3. MMR does 2 (after a month of 1st)
4. TD dose 2 (after a month of 1st)
5. Varicella

PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ answer these questions. You are the only one from Hyderabad that i kow off.

I posted all my experiences with details in this forum. Search them for your questions and you will get answer to most of them. If not, post it here and we will help you out.

They didn't do the police verification for me since my passport renewal was done two weeks earlier. And yes, I finished the passport PCC process within a week.
