Charity...totally understand. Yesterday I was bored and looked for prices to go to the Bahamas. biggrin.gif If we want beach it'll be cheaper to go to Mexico. But we won't be able to tell the in-laws we are going to the beach in Mexico or else they'll want us to visit them too!! laughing.gif My boss and co-worker just went to Mexico (separately and to different places) and I am so jealous of their tan and photos. Crystal clear blue water, white sandy beaches....ahhhh...the envy.

Benita...Miguel registered with the selective service years ago. They found out about him when he applied for his state ID. We actually called an atty about it wondering if he had to register which was also around the time the atty asked us when we were going to file for his papers. Kind of a blessing it came, I guess. I mean we were going to apply for his papers but hadn't really thought about it at the time. We had been married for 4 months and were broke. Ironic to think it was signing up for the draft that got our act in gear. Got a question, though, if any of you know the answer. He signed up without a social. I mean it has all his information but no SSN. Do you think we need to contact them and add it so there won't be any problems with citizenship? I'll ask our atty too.

I would love to go to the beach in Mexico. I hope we can take some time to go when we are down there in December. His whole family will want to go with us. I would really like to rent a car the next time we go. I would really like to drive our car but it would take us three days to get there. Well not really, it didn't take Benita that long and she went further down than us. Maybe I will throw that idea out to Javier. You had the same question as me about the Selective Service. I don't know what to do about them not having Javier and Miguel's socials. I guess we would need to contact them to let them know. Where would you find a contact number?

Melissa: Why the sad face? What's going on?
mnmex
I asked our atty that question this morning in an e-mail and he responded that it isn’t necessary to contact the selective service people. He said the important thing to have for the citizenship stuff is the selective service registration number and the date they applied (which is all on the card). I kept all the notices and other crap from them so I’ll check for a phone number tonight to be extra sure it isn’t necessary to update the information.

Back to the salt mines I go…………….. wacko.gif

When we bought tickets for my inlaws to come this past Christmas, we bought them in August and tickets were still cheap - $350 each. When a cousin of my husband's checked a few weeks before Christmas they were $1000 each. Crazy. I'd say it's good to buy ahead of time, but I don't think you have to do it quite yet - 5 months ahead seems to be plenty of time.

ashleydpinzon
if you do find the number for the selective service we also registered w out a ssn but his wallet was stolen . should we just re register.
Bootylicious
Ashley: I don't think he needs to re-register probably just needs to get a new card issued. I have to ask Javier tonight if he has his card. I remember it came through the mail but I don't know what he did with it.

I found this on the Selective Service website. We may not need to do anything. They may be fine without the SS#.

Am I required to give my Social Security Number when I register with Selective Service? If you have a Social Security number, you are required to provide it. [50 U.S.C. App. 453(cool.gif; 32 CFR 1615.4(a)]. However, you are not required to have a Social Security number to register with Selective Service.
ashleydpinzon
if you find a number that way i could call and request another card because he no longer has one at all.
Bootylicious
Ashley: The number is 1-847-688-6888. I am on hold now with them. I am going to ask them if they need to give their social security number.
ashleydpinzon
ask them also if they are able to send another card for someone who never had a ssn when they first applied
Bootylicious
Ashley and Stephanie: I just talked to Anna at the Selective Services office. She said Javier was registered twice. Once when he got his DL and the State Dept. registered him again when he got his PR card. You probably need to call and get this straightened out. She said it is standard for the State Dept to register them when they become residents. Tacho and Miguel may be registered twice also. She also said you just need to call them and they can add their socials to the account.
ashleydpinzon
is it a long distane call? Ill have to wait till tacho is with me cause i dont know his ss# by heart.
Bootylicious
Ashley: I don't know if it is long distance or not. I am at work so I just called it. I didn't even think about it. I was only on hold for a few minutes. We don't have Javier's social yet. I just wanted to find out what we needed to do. I will have to call them back after he gets his social.
ashleydpinzon
right . I guess i better call also being tacho doesnt have his card. I dont know how he got registered before because it came in the mail after we got married.
Bootylicious
Yeah, I don't know how he would've gotten registered. You can just call them later when you get Tacho's social. They are only open until 3:30 so make sure you call before then.
ashleydpinzon
just called and they added his social and said hes been registered since 9/29/03 and are sending me another card.
Bootylicious
Good, glad you got that taken care of. Javier has been registered since 2004.

Hey charity…I have a question for you. My friend filed the I-129 a few weeks after her I-130 approval and I think she got some [mis] information at USCIS. They said they won’t approve the I-129 if the I-130 has been approved. When did you file your I-129? When was your I-130 approved?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Bootylicious
Stephanie: Our I-130 was approved on 10-14-2004 and our I-129 wasn't approved until 05-12-2005. I don't think they know what they are talking about. We actually got our first package from the NVC before our I-129 was ever approved.
mnmex
THANKS! When did you file the I-129?

p.s. I think they don’t know either.
mnmex
Oh and also thanks for the info re: selective service. I called today and was able to update Miguel’s info. It was weird, she put me on hold while she went and “pulled his file” (because they spelled his name wrong too and she wanted to see how he signed the papers)….crazy to think they have paper files and that she went and pulled it. Do you realize how many men have registered? Do they organize all that in files? Haven’t they moved forward to computers? laughing.gif
ashleydpinzon
WELL WE ARE ALL GETTING OUR MEN REGISTERED LOL biggrin.gif

We filed both of our petitions at the same time, October 4, 2004. Our I-130 was approved in only 10 days. I am not sure why it took so long for our I-129 to be approved. So it's not true they won't approve I-129's after the I-130 has been approved. There was 7 months in between the approvals for us. It's funny we got an appointment for the I-129 instead of the I-130.

Your welcome for the information. I will be calling them back in a week or so after we get Javier's social. I can't believe they have all those paper files. She looked Javier up on the computer. I guess they have both. I just can't imagine all the paper work involved with all the men that have registered with the Selective Service.

Is that why we did not hear from Melissa yesterday? When does she leave for Mexico and when does she return???

Hola chicas! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Too bad it had to end. Just an update on Melissa: She got to Guadalajara on Saturday. Javier picked her up at the airport. They are having a great time and have a lot planned for the week. They are going on a tequila tour. I am so jealous. I would love to do that. I will try to keep you all posted on her trip. I know she is having a blast but I feel for her having to come home on Sunday without him. We all know how she will feel.

Benita: I think Javier and I may drive to Mexico on December. I was wondering exactly where you went and how long it took you to get there? Is it realistic for us to think we can make it from NC to Huauchinango in a day and half, basically? We would leave here on Thursday around 12 or 1 and go as far as we could go by 10 or so. Then get up early on Friday morning and go the rest of the way. Any suggestions or information you have is welcomed. Thanks!

Ok my question is.
He already did the medical examination when we went for his initial interview. Will he need to do another one?
Will we have to pay the $100.00 visa bill to Banamex again.?
And is there another interview for this again?
Will we be denied again?
And what is this packet 4?
There was nothing else included in this letter ,we already turned in all docs.when we went for the first interview.
Or is this like someone mentioned where they ask him if he has been in Mex.the whole time and if he has tried to cross again.?
Did any of you get this same letter?
Bootylicious
Marta: We got the same letter. It is just a simple form letter they send out for everyone. They don't have one just for return appointments. Our letter said there was an enclosure but we only received the letter also. You should not have to have another medical since the one he had should have been good for a year. You may need to pay the fee again. You shouldn't have to but we did because the lady we got was an idiot and told us we either had to pay it or come back the next day. Well that didn't give us much choice. You will not be denied again. You are just going to pick up the visa. You will not have another interview. They will ask Edgar if he has been in Mexico the entire time and if he has had any problems with the police. That should be it. Plan on being there all day. I don't know why it takes so long but it does.
chagalafamilia
Marta- I think all of us have asked these questions. It is a form letter, so NO you do not have to do everything they say.

If his medical exam has not expired then NO, you do not need to do that again. (It is good for 1 year from the time it was done).

Payment to Banamex, YES you will have to pay the fee again. We asked at the information window before we paid it just to make sure that we needed to do it again. And according to Banamex it is now $110. They did ask for this receipt at the first building ©.

NO he can not be denied at this interview. It is basically to pickup the visa. They will just ask him a few questions, has he been in Mexico the entire time, has he done anything illegal while there.

Mostly you just WAIT, WAIT, WAIT........Then finally you get the visa. I am not sure if you are going, but if you are bring food and drinks. I know Charity did not have a problem getting in, but they were not going to let me in. So Alex told them he did not read or write and that I needed to be there for him. This got me in.

GOOD LUCK. kicking.gif
martaprestegui
Thank you so much.
Why do they have to make evrything so confusing?

rose.gif rose.gif Have I told you'll how much I appreciate your kindness and help.

Charity --- YOU are toooo fast. We both answered Marta, with almost the same information.

I will get back with you on the travel by car as soon as I get a moment.

Marta, Since his appointment is Monday morning. He needs to pay the Banamex fee on Friday, I believe you can do it at any Banamex. I forgot which city he is living in, but if he has to travel to CDJ it would save you some money if he did not have to get to CDJ on Friday.

Hola chicas.

Glad Melissa made it o.k.!!

Marta....way cool on getting the letters and I "third" what the other chicas told you. Form letter, no interview, just a few questions as to if he stayed in Mexico the whole time. Easy stuff this time. The worst part is the waiting but Miguel said it was much easier to tolerate this time because he knew he was coming HOME!! Which is where Edgar will be in oh....say.....28 fricken days. So happy for ya.

My weekend sucked. But things are looking up now. Life isn't easy, is it?

take care ya'll! wink.gif
