The wedding is in less than 3 weeks and I have received RSVP's from 150 people, But only 10 Nigerians....... How do you accomodate 125 addtional people who you expect to come but have not confirmed ......I have people still asking for invites,,,,,,,mind you every invite has a self addressed stamped envelope...so why are people calling me saying I'm coming....send in the damn envelope it is free to do so.

Well back to the people count I have to pay for every person and then I have to guess at the additional Nigerian Buffet. Guess? Should I accomodate 40 of 140.....or more? Why can't people just send the damn card in?

At $50 a head........I'm stressing over here..... headbonk.gif helpsmilie.gif helpsmilie.gif .

Only because I had called them 30 min earlier saying I am coming.

Thanks Uno for the Zumba site, I will check it out.

Wedestiny, I am sure that is nerve wrecking ! I would rather have too much than not enough though. I think the Nigerian guests will show up for the most part.
We_Destiny
Those are my exact sentiments hence the stress. I have already decided to have the Nigerian Buffet for 150 people and we know that is going to be alot, but the next day is Sunday and those people that are still in town and or want to hang out will eat the leftovers. I thought in the beginning 140 to 180 people but I am now looking at over 275 at $50 bucks plus the Nigerian food a person that is alot of money, a bleeping used car, a 3 cart diamond ring, a down payment on a bleeping big house. What the hell was I thinking? No.... but seriusly......outside of the cash shortage...........I am the happiest and luckiest gal in the world. All I bleeping need is a ring to crown the event ( I have been married for almost a year with no diamond ring ( fiamonds are a girls best friend).

My SO has learned the the phrase"stop tripping"....I'LL MAKE NOTE TO STOP...........

SIPPING VODKA

A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could
hardly speak.
After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done.
The monsignor replied, " When I am worried about getting
nervous On the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the
water glass. If I start to get nervous, I take a sip."
So next Sunday he took the monsignor's advice.
At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a
drink.
He proceeded to talk up a storm.
Upon his return to his office after the mass, he found the
following note on the door:

1) Sip the vodka, don't gulp.

2) There are 10 commandments, not 12.

3) There are 12 disciples, not 10.

4) Jesus was consecrated, not constipated.

5) Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ###.

6) We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C.

7) The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as
Daddy, Junior and the spook.

8) David slew Goliath, he did not kick the sh*t out of him.

9) When David was hit by a rock and was knocked off his
donkey, don't say he was stoned off his ###.

10)We do not refer to the cross as the "Big T."

11)When Jesus broke the bread at the last supper he said,
"take this and eat it for it is my body." He did not say "
Eat me" .

12)The Virgin Mary is not called " Mary with the Cherry,.

13)The recommended grace before a meal is not:
Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, Yeah God.

14)Next Sunday there will be a taffy pulling contest at
ST.Peter's not a peter pulling contest at St. Taffy's.

I remember a few years back I hosted one of those ladies only adult Home Parties (you get my drift). None of the Nigerian ladies I invited RSVP'ed. I assumed that they were really offended. Anyway all but one showed up... and the one that did not come had me bring her the catalog. They ordered more then anyone else. My big seller that night was a cream called "Virgin Again" (Please don't ask me anything about that product I am too shy) blush.gif I invited my Mom because she would of had a fit if I didn't and she found out. Thank god she only ordered some candles. I think I would of died of embarrassment if she ordered any of the racier products.

sad.gif You sound like you need a hug. I would be stressing, too. $50 a person is too much money to spend on guessing and not get it right. I bet most of the Nigerians will end up attending. Zi Zi's story is a prime example of how things can end up. Us Americans are used to RSVP'ing, but a lot of "foreigners" might not be used to that system or they might not see the importance in sending a piece of paper back. When Liberians ask how many guests we will have at the wedding, I say, "hmmm, about 300." and they say, "Oh, okay, so expect 450." It seems that people are used to going against our version of "the flow" and showing up regardless of an RSVP. If you have to guess so much, then I can definately see why you are going berserk. rose.gif It will all be over in 3 weeks and you will have the beautiful photos to show it off.

Busy day for me. I wanted to share with my Sub-Saharan peeps that I got offered a job today with a production crew doing a documentary for the UN. I'm not certain of the details but it has to do with a program the UN does where they sponser a group of ppl who go around Africa and teach the ppl to grow potatoes or something like that. I was approached by two of the producers for the project who are aware that I'm graduating next May with a BS in radio/tv/digital media production and a minor in foreign and international affairs. Also twice I participated in the UN simulations representing Africa so I learned alot about the issues there & I'm on the Borah Symposium committee which some of you know about. The only thing is the UN group we're traveling with is going into some of the most high risk areas such as Darfur, the Congo, and some other places they mentioned that I forgot about. I told them I was already traveling to Egypt next summer to be with my Husband and they said I could take him with me if he's allowed to travel around Africa with I believe he is. They asked what he does and I told them he's a Doctor and he speaks and writes fluent English and Arabic and he would be familiar with the Islamic customs in some of the regions we're traveling in so it would be very helpful. They litterly stood there with their mouths openned wide and stunned. Like it was meant to be! kicking.gif I don't know if my Husband would support all of this or if it's ligit but it sounds like it because they've been in production for 10 years and it's pretty awesome. They have a 10 month time frame.

So with that being said I'll be paying even more attention to Africa now. smile.gif

I know! I'm really excited about it and I hope it all does pan out. It was like too much of a coincedene. I've been asking spirit for awhile now (what next after college graduation?) I think I just got my answer!. biggrin.gif

I asked the producers what they had in mind for me and they said they would send me there to document it like being my own film maker. It's a bonus for them that my degree is in the school of journalism and mass media so I can apply those objective skills to my documentary work. They liked the 10 minute short I did last semester on "The Untold Stories of Rape". Very tender topic.

I know that part of it is a grant for $50,000 which is really a low shoe string budget production and I would expect that the production company provides the equipment. I don't believe they expect me to edit it. I believe they expect me to collect the footage though for a period of 10 months and then they sift through it.

If Waleed makes it and the connection is good I'm going to get to talk to him at 1pm today!

Yeah, I guess jsut ask and be sure because it would really suck if they expected you to pay for the rental of the camera and buy your own film.

Otherwise totally awesome! Let me know if he says yes!! If he says no, Ammar and I can come LOL smile.gif

biggrin.gif Do you do documentary film-making?

We did have a long discussion about budget and time and they said it would be a good first job for me just out of college. tongue.gif Means they want to pay me low. But I don't really care because the experience would be good and my Husband can come along. We did discuss their equipment. I assumed since they bid on the project they already planned to use their equipment and just needed someone willing to go to those regions with the UN workers who had the skills and know how for the documentary.

I had several freinds who did film and I know a couple (friends of my parents) who do documentary films.. writing, shooting, produciton, the whole deal. I don't do anything myself, lol. When I was younger I wanted to make a documentary about puffins on one of the tiny shetland islands LOL.

Olivia - this is so cool - I hope it all flies for you. I would love to see it someday on HBO documentaries. Girl - you never know it could even be up for an Oscar?!?!? I'm getting ahead of myself but still, it is very awesome!

Staashi lol! I doubt it a documentary of the UN teaching tribes in Africa how to grow potatoes will win an Oscar. laughing.gif Too cute! But hey it's a start in my career. biggrin.gif

LOL! These guys:

i had this plan about living on this island which only has 2 other people on it-- but at the time it had a house for sale (this is kid logic, somehow it was still going to be for sale by now or whenever I was moving -or- I did also think i could convince my parents to move there). I thought I would spend lots of time at the cliffs and get teh puffins to adapt to me, then, I would make a film for Nature.
