Have been so busy at work, i've only been having a sneaky lurk here and there, so here's my catch up post wink.gif .

NICE bag Maven!!! You gotta be nice to yourself sometimes, and a bag is, like, an investment tongue_ss.gif

Yay for debz making it safe and sound (yes, i know i'm days behind) I need exact details on what you said to get an upgrade. I would LOVE to go business class, but it would be all the sweeter not even paying for it.

My OH is so cute when it comes to putting duvet covers on to the duvet. He watches me do the whole laundry process without so much as twitching in the direction of helping, but when the time comes to put on the duvet cover he leaps up with his arm's out. laughing.gif He holds the top corners of the duvet cover on the outside, then i drape the cover on his arms, so i can see the top corners from the inside. I give him the top corners of the duvet and i pull the duvet cover back over. The whole operation is over in about 2 minutes. I thought everyone did it that way.

i didn't realise the duvet was a rare item in the US. Now thinking about packing ours. Is that over the top?

Oh and - thanks Jeraly for reminding me to update my sig. I still had a ticker saying I was waiting for my I-130 approval. I've taken your advice and now using one from lafemmebonita good.gif

They sell duvets here - there has been significant debate in the past as to whether or not American duvets were really duvets. Some people prefer their own - he brought ours over.

Now that Allan has moved to Florida and doesn't post as much that debate has died down tongue.gif

I must say I haven't changed a duvet cover with Jeremy yet but I am sure we would do it that way - we always make the bed by taking opposite sides and walking up to the top of the bed together to straighten it out biggrin.gif

I don't think duvets are rare - I think they are just more commonly referred to as comforters smile.gif

Guinness is an excellent name for a cat! My parents' rescue cat is called Murphy - and his brother was Guinness!

I loooooove my duvet here in the UK but it's growing rather old and stained now (well, only about four years old, but I spilled tea on it in my third year of uni - never did get the stain out) so I wouldn't bring it over, but it's rather tempting to buy a new pocketed goose-feather one especially to ship to the US. It wouldn't need to be a heavy tog as California never gets too cold...

The problem was that the one we did have wasn't quite enough for winter (we're at the top of the house and there's no radiators up there -- and the laws of physics are defied as no heat rises up there!). I could have found a warmer one, but as we're also moving to LaLaLand, what's the point?

I just want my old John Lewis one back! ranting33va.gif

I have never understood the lure of duvets (called 'doonas' in Australia wink.gif ) - I almost always get too hot, and even if it's only a TINY bit too hot, where can you go? duvet off - freeze; duvet on - too hot blink.gif

give me layers of blankets, so I can control my environment wink.gif
can't wait to get my lovely Onkaparinga blankets out of storage... pure wool, with a satin edging... lovely smile.gif
Jeraly
Ahh - I can always lie on top of my duvet under a sheet if it gets too hot - I control my temperature by sticking my feet out laughing.gif It's pretty funny cause my brother does exactly the same biggrin.gif
StillThePrettiest
I do that too! but with a duvet I find it's rarely enough
Alex & Rachel
I'm always a little bit cold and I love to be wrapped up all toasty warm at night. Blankets just annoy me; they're always falling off the bed and getting muddled up. It's so easy to make a bed when you have a fitted sheet and a duvet!

I've never really found it too warm for a duvet except in California in summer - then I'll just have the one sheet. It doesn't feel like enough 'protection' when I sleep on my own, though - yes, I'm a big baby and like to feel all secure tucked up in bed tongue.gif

After three weeks spent with me hogging the duvet (I tend to steal it in little bits as I turn over during the night) Mark and I have decided to go with sheets and blankets so we can tuck them in to his side of the bed and hopefully ensure that he doesn't freeze during the night! *laughing* I have, however, insisted we get new sheets and blankets since his are not snuggly enough in my opinion.

It's really hard being apart this time and we are both really fed-up with the situation. I'm just hoping we might get lucky and get NOA2 in the next 6-8 weeks so there's some hope of our getting married in September like we planned.

laughing.gif That is exactly what i do. It's made worse by the fact that my OH does the leg-sticking-out-for-temperature-control move, so he hates it when I tuck it in. we eventually just got a king size duvet!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh I think I want to scream!!!!! Am sooo fed up with all this BS now - theyve introduced a new police check thing so the one I have might not be valid and I already sent back my packet 3. I know you frustration about the police check. Kris had it all set up and planned and when he went back in to get it found out they'd changed it. Good thing i had headphones on when he ranted about it. whistling.gif

and I don't get how BLANKETS always fall off the bed, but a DUVET doesn't... surely the former are tucked in, but the latter isn't? huh.gif

*hugs* sad.gif I'm going to have to see the doctor about getting the HPV vaccine too - but it is so expensive! It's all very frustrating and sometimes I wonder how I'll ever be ready but I just have to try and concentrate on one thing/day at a time and know that in a few months the most difficult stage of the visa journey will be over.

QUOTE(StillThePrettiest @ Mar 18 2008, 08:06 AM) *

They've introduced a new style of police check - it's only valid for 6 months and costs £35 (but you receive it within 10 days instead of the usual 40 or so).
Jeraly
I don't know if you need the new one if you already have the old one though - I got my police check a while ago to make sure I had it all ready - serves me right for trying to be prepared... You think they will still accept that or will I have to get a new one? I am really confused now because I don't want to end up going to interview and having them say they can't issue a visa without the new style police check... mad.gif

As for HPV... I am waiting on a call back from my doctor - Jeremy found out it is $360 for the course of three injections in the US. He also found out the vac is only recommended for girls under 12 and is ILLEGAL for women 27 and over to have!!!! It is also not mandatory for anyone in the US to have. He has sent an e-mail to the DOS about it - it does seem rather ridiculous...

It does seem that on a K-1 you don't need it for the visa though, only AOS so hopefully I can just get it done in the US where it is cheaper. Of course if I find out that I can have it in the UK cheaper than that then I will start it here but apparently it is a six month course... I wish they gave us more info on all this - the only thing that happened is the embassy updated their vac table - no notices or anything sad.gif
