I'M HERE!!!!!!!
Journey wasn't altogether horrendous, just a tad horrendous. Left late from Glasgow but it felt that as soon as we reached cruising altitude we were landing. Took 2 attempts to land because of the wind and we got thrown around something mental. Because of the lateness and busyness of Dublin I only just made boarding allocation for the chicago flight. I sprinted to the desk and asked the wee woman, since I had to sprint any chance of an upgrade with a big half panting cheesy grin, she paused a while and did something on her computer and said, no problem. The plane didn't have seperate business/first class so it was a combination of the 2. I got on the plane, got personally shown to my seat, as my coat was taken of me to be hung on a special rail I got "champagne or orange juice for take off?" took the orange juice, tummy too yicky for bubbles. That flight left late too but landed almost on time. Watched a couple of movies on my personal entertainment system with noise reduction headphones. Clearing immigration and customs at chicago was suprisingly quick I was through it all withing 35mins of getting off the plane. The Immigration officer said "welcome to america" when he gave me my passport back, friendliest immigartion guy I've ever had. Last flight was a bit bumpy but fairly quick. Just so glad it's over. Off to sort my stuff out now.
WELCOME HOME DEBZ!!!!!
Well done you on the upgrade, you cheeky minx! I've been waiting for this post...!
Jeraly, I can see you're on this page...Hurry up and post, girl!

Yeah, I'm supposed to be working too. Luckily I am all alone in my office as I share it with only one other person and he's in Morrocco this week. Hellllllooooooo, VJ!
Bruce and I flew Silverjet to Newark -- all business class, with a private terminal in Luton. It is NOT cheap, but we decided to push out the boat for once and travel in comfort. Newark was just as cr@ppy as always, but at least whilst we were in the air...bliss.
I have to confess to something... something only my mom knows. I bought the most beautiful handbag in the Bahamas, but it is easily the most expensive thing I had ever purchased in my life. It cost more than my car. It cost more than that Silverjet ticket to Newark. But I saw it in the window at Salvatore Ferragamo and it was like...where have you been all my life??? It was like one of those eyes meeting across a crowded room moments. I swear I felt my heart skip a beat. Here it is in all its glory:

I'm not so much a shoe girl myself, but I can appreciate a beautiful shoe and Louboutins are gorgeous. Good luck in finding your soul/sole mate!

It really is quite easy to spend that much money. Frighteningly easy. I figured after all the cr@p I've been through over the past 18 months I deserve to spend some money on me for a change.
Have fun on your trip! I'll be over there in about 3 weeks for a business trip. I'm gonna buy me a proper duvet at John Lewis or Debenhams and put it in one of those vacuum sucker-outer bags for the trip home. I have yet to find a duvet here which meets my duvet needs!

hehehehe i did that back in January just couldn't get my head round the comforter having the cover sewn on and not being able to chuck it in the wash and having to have a sheet between me and the cover ( guess i wriggle too much to cope with that).

We have plenty of covers already -- we're making do with two fairly flimsy duvets stuffed one on top of the other in the cover. Putting a duvet in a duvet cover has to be in my top 10 least favourite things. Putting two duvets in a duvet cover comes just behind cleaning the litter box.

I am kicking myself now for donating my goosedown duvet to charity before we left, could have put it in one of the boxes we shipped but no, I was an idiot.
I'm making sure to get one that is a summerweight tog, so we aren't too warm when we move to LA in a few months.

You should have seen me last night. I was literally sandwiched in between two duvets inside a duvet cover, trying to make sure I was getting both sets of corners in. I could hear my husband's muffled voice coming from across the room, "You okay, honey?" When I emerged from the Double Duvet of Death, he said, "You look like you were having a hard time." Not that he lifted a finger -- he was too busy eating Mint Viscounts and watching "Most Shocking: Fights and Riots".

Oh I know - I got so confused when we were making our wedding registry on Amazon that I had to get Jeremy to look for stuff and run it by me cause I was clueless!!!
Think will defo have to ask for free upgrade... I know Jeremy won't do it cause he is a bigger wuss than me... When we were in Hawaii we got put into a twin room so I managed to talk them into putting us into a double - the clerk couldn't figure it out but I wheedled and the manager did it in the end... then she realised that we were only paying $55 a night

Genius! I am sure she wouldn't have made as much of an effort if she knew we weren't paying the $150-$250 per night the rooms were worth!! I also managed to get money knocked off a photo album we liked as it was the last one and it was on display - nothing wrong with it but the paper in between the pages was a little cheap - got a 20% discount...
So I *can* blag... I just don't like it

Per upgrades - do you give a reason why or just say, hey, can I/we have an upgrade?

Mar 14 2008, 08:23 AM
Uh oh, Charles, now you've gone and done it!

Morning all.
I'm pretty good at getting a duvet cover on a duvet, now. I have to stand up on my bed to shake it because there's not enough room in which to do so otherwise.
If you have two duvets in one cover and they weren't designed to go with each other then I'd recommend sewing velcro onto each corner so they can stick together
Jeraly
Mar 14 2008, 08:30 AM
I still have a single bed

Mar 14 2008, 08:38 AM
Well...I have a double bed but no one to share it with in the UK, but when I move to the US we'll be sharing a single bed! D'oh!
Jeraly
Mar 14 2008, 08:44 AM
Hahah - isn't that always the way?! We had to share a single bed when Jeremy was here for a few months in the summer of 2006 - he is 6'4 and just under 280lbs so as you can imagine it was a bit of a squeeze!!!
*julez*
Mar 14 2008, 08:46 AM
We have a down duvet and the cover is way too big. It really p*sses me off! We bought a king size duvet and a king size cover. I seriously do not understand why there is such a huge discrepancy in the fit. I keep considereing buying a queensize cover as I think it may fit better. Hmmm.
Alex & Rachel
Mar 14 2008, 08:46 AM
It must have been!

Fortunately Alex is short and skinny so it's not too much of a squeeze but somehow I still end up pinned against the wall while he's sprawled across 3/4 of the bed...

I think its a conspiracy!
Jeraly
Mar 14 2008, 08:59 AM
Well it's only because I got Jeremy to look at bedding for our wedding list on Amazon and I was reading reviews and people were slating certain products because of it - of course it means that it might be what they had in the first place and not what they bought so that is reassuring at least!!!

Morning all. After all that kerfuffle with duvets and duvet covers (good tip about the velcro, Rachel!) the darn things still don't line up right in the cover. It is, however, starting to get warm enough overnight that we might move back to one and the issue will be moot.
Speaking about space hogs, last night Bruce and I went out for a Mexican with my parents; all four of us were sitting in a booth. I was next to Bruce, and damn me if that boy (who is skinny as a rail) didn't take up nearly 3/4s of our bench. He kept knocking me with his elbows and giving ME a dirty look.
Oh, and something really funny (okay, may not be as funny to you -- YMMV) happened in the ladies' loo there. I went in, and a woman followed me shortly after. She began singing along to the song on the sound system, which was the Kinks' "Lola" REALLY LOUD and punctuating it with, well, her own brand of woodwind and percussion...

It was totally unreal.

Well, I thought it was funny! I am horrifed when people are noisy in the stall next to me! I really feel people should do their best to go about their business quietly and move on. Preferably no eye contact if they have been noisy. Spare us all the discomfort of pretending to have not heard!
I recently experienced a woman in the stall next to me carrying on a convo on her mobile, while we all tinkled away merrily. She then exited the stall, primped her hair and exited. Never even bothered to wash her filthy hands. So vile and disgusting!

Now wasting time planning a trip to DC next month -- maybe. I've been asked to go to a meeting in DC which takes place literally the day after I get back from London. I don't know if I'm up to travelling all the way down there and back, but it could be good for work. Plus, I might convince the boy to come with me, but he hates spending money, or me spending money on him, on things not related to 1) cars or 2) old hi-fi. But he'd love DC!

My new kitten, who is dark brownish black and named Guinness, but should really be called El Diablo, will eat ANYTHING! He is forever knocking over the bin and dragging out scraps to eat. He even pinched a stick of butter off the butter dish the other day! Into everything, but I love the little devil!
